A flavorless and small salmon meal was served, the chicken salad was soaking in dressing which BTW the kitchen does not split upon request. This place is busy, and even though we arrived only 30 minutes after they opened for a nice lunch, they were already on a wait in both the dining room and bar. Reservations are highly recommended. I am a frequent guest at the related Hillstone brand in Winter Park Florida, and the restaurant group is consistently "elevated" in fare and service. Also, I appreciate the more adult-focused atmosphere, and dress code. Similar vibe at the Scottsdale Road Houston's. Friendly professional service with Emily (drinks at the community table, as we were waiting for a bar vacancy), and matching friendly service at the bar with Tyler. We had a bowl of Clam Chowder to start, and dove into the Cedar Plank Salmon, and the GF had the Pan Asian Noodle Salad. The Salmon is consistently above average at Houston's and a main reason for the visit. I dabbled in the Asian Salad which was also worthy (I would add a protein if it was my dish). For a chain, it's actually pretty good, and the ambiance has that comfortable, slightly-upscale neighborhood vibe--perfect for when you just want a good burger and fries without the fuss. We ordered the artichoke hearts, the fried chicken sandwich, and the ahi steak. The ahi came out perfectly rare, which was on point and honestly a pleasant surprise. Houstons never let's us down! Its always a relaxing, delicious experience. I have to warn you though a reservation is recommended. They can get busy. And I don't like to wait. We love their appetizers. We usually have their fries, shrimp and artichokes if available. We had their Red Ruby trout. Grace our server recommended it and it was delicious. I ordered the steak and my first date ordered the salmon. We also had two glasses of wine, artichoke appetizer and key lime pie for desert. The salmon was undercooked, the medium steak was like rubber, the baked potato was cold and the artichoke appetizer was ok, but a little too burnt. The atmosphere and service were ok. The wine, coleslaw and desert were fine, but everything else was a lot different than when I was there the two times before that. It was embarrassing. I was telling my date how great this place was and I could tell she was very disappointed. It was not a good first impression for her. I took the steak home and fead it to the dogs. She was was very friendly and checked on us often. We ordered the spinach dip and it was amazing as always. Three of us had the grilled chicken salad and the flavor profile is so good. It is my go to there. The fourth got the Hawaiian Ribeye and I had a piece it was tasty. We tried this place recently for dinner and had a great experience. The dimly lit dining room sets a nice, romantic ambiance. Our party of three sat comfortably at our table. We started with the chilled jumbo shrimp and French fries up front that came with 2 dipping sauces. My wife enjoyed her filet that came with broccoli and potatoes colcannon. Food was a miss but bar service was excellent! This restaurant has the vibe that you would expect from a classic steak restaurant with the booths and dark lighted atmosphere. Plus a long bar. On a Wednesday this restaurant was hopping at 5pm. The bar was full and they had a waitlist. The restaurant was full with people having an early dinner! At the other Houston's I've never experienced a wait list before! At first I was put off but as the bar crowd poured in around 530pm, I learned that this was a good idea to take the crowd! After waiting for about 15 minutes, we got a seat at the bar. Note while we were waiting, we were able to grab a drink at the side bar and relax. At the bar we had amazing service. The staff was very attentive! And they made sure to keep our martinis cold by refreshing our glasses. Even the water glasses were child! As for food: food was a miss tonight! We ordered a filet for about 62 dollars with a bake potato. We ordered our steak medium rare plus and came pretty raw. Even the bartender agreed it was not cooked properly. We sent the steak back, shortly later we were presented with our same steak. The steak was then slightly overcooked thus tough. Plus they "recooked " our potato thus the yummy skin was uneatable due to be overcooked. The restaurant should have provided us with a new potato. For inconvenience on the steak and it still not being cooked properly the restaurant should have compensated us in some manner. Based on tonight's experience and money spent, I would come for drinks and service only! Based on being frequent guest to their restaurants, we have found this to be the best option. Tip: don't expect an espresso martini at their restaurants, corporate does not allow for this drink. Tip: get the wedge with blue cheese dressing rather than thousand island. My girlfriend ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. When it arrived, she was concerned because it wasn't the Caesar salad, and it wasn't the dressing. Our waitress explained that it was the Caesar salad and it wasn't a traditional Caesar salad because it had corn and kale and blah blah blah, but it wasn't Caesar salad dressing so we made her take it back. It was as if they didn't believe that they had the wrong dressing on it! I asked for a little side of the Caesar salad so we could make sure.. What she gave us was totally different than what was on the salad. Ralph brought us out their take on the Caesar salad. I had explained to him that we had to get the menu back to look at the descriptions and at no where there was any mention of peanut or peanut oil in the Caesar salad! I explained to Ralph that could have been a very serious mistake if she or I would've been allergic to peanuts! I ordered a wedge salad which I normally love. The best part of a wedge for me is the crunch of the head of lettuce, the thick juicy tomatos, and blue cheese crumbles. Well, the lettuce was soggy, no crunch. There were no blue cheese crumbles, they used bit cherry tomatos which were mushy and somewhat warm. The wedge itself was also much smaller and flimsier than I expected. I finished it and was still starving so went up the street and ordered another snack. I'm sorry to say not worth a $20 tab. When I asked about add-ons, I was given the option of rotisserie chicken which didn't sound appetizing so I'm glad I didn't add that on, but surprised there weren't more options. So disappointing. Been going to this restaurant for over 20 years, and found myself completely disgusting, tonight we arrived a little before 4 pm. As we were entering the restaurant. As there was an elderly women, I would say in her mid 80. She was so excited because it was her birthday and was telling her family that this was her favorite restaurant. She was using a walker and oxygen when she reached the she podium she was told the restaurant what was at fully committed. She was so disappointed and left. She even shared with hosts that she had drove 40 minutes. My husband and myself did have dinner and left after dinner at 6:45pm. during that entire time 2 1/2 hours, the restaurant had several empty tables available. We spoke with the bartender and they said they do this every Wednesday, after 6:00 the restaurant magically has tables available. I did speak with the floor manager Sydney and told what I had witnessed and what the Bartender told us. She looked confused and said maybe I misunderstood. I didn't. Not sure what fully Committed at the Houston restaurant really means, because the whole time we were there, there were many tables that were open. I just felt bad seeing an elderly lady treated so poorly. Houston start reading your reviews, and get your hostess station in check. Many complaints, many customers will not be returning. read more

Extremely disappointing experience, especially as a longtime customer and it was a slow word than usual night for Christmas Eve. The hostess was shockingly rude and set the tone for the entire visit. A friend briefly came over to say hello and was treated with open hostility--scowled at, spoken to condescendingly, and ultimately made to wait on a bench at the front door until we finished eating. There were open tables available, and rather than simply moving us or handling the situation with any grace, she chose the most humiliating and unnecessary approach possible. This is not hospitality. It felt like she had a chip on her shoulder and clearly did not want to be there. Restaurants like this need host staff with maturity and an actual understanding--and love--of hospitality, because this interaction was embarrassing, awkward, and completely avoidable. Unfortunately, the service and food followed suit. The food was subpar and clumsy, plates arrived dirty, the appetizer and entrée were dropped at the same time, and the table was cleared almost immediately after we took our last bite. I even called ahead to note the special occasion, but nothing was acknowledged. We were told our party was "too big for a booth" and were split between two separate tables with separate servers, making it impossible to sit together as a family. Our reservation was 20+ minutes late, the restrooms were dirty, and a medium steak arrived rare. What really shocked me was seeing an elderly gentleman fall near the front desk while we were waiting. Staff offered almost no assistance, and when the ambulance arrived, the EMTs had to ask for a chair--something he should have been given immediately. It was unsettling and showed a real lack of care. My first time at Houston's as a guest of a man that truly loves this restaurant. The food was phenomenal, large portions ...perfectly cooked fish., I had the salmon. And the dishes arrived quickly. The ambience is lovely, old world charm with ribbon mahogany veneer padded cozy booths. A slight upgrade would be to provide floor lighting at the transition of the tile flooring to the carpet area. First time checking out Houston's and it did not disappoint. The restaurant offered a casual elegant vibe with dark wood and cool, red leather booths. The food was amazing. We had the Hawaiian ribeye and fillet. Our server McKenna was awesome and very attentive. She answered all my questions and accommodated my order no problem. The filet came out a little over cooked. When we brought it up to our server, she sent over the manager charlie - who immediately corrected it no problems asked. Not only did they bring out a new steak, but an entire new entree. Houston's is an incredibly nostalgic place for me. I used to visit the Pasadena location. To have one in Scottsdale is such a treat. This is where I go on the nights I need to just relax and be alone for an hour. I love to sit at the bar listening to an audiobook, or reading my latest novel. I try to keep to myself, but I've also met some really cool people here. The food is always great as is the service. I love the low lights and the way they play my favorite Federico Aubele every single time. Hubby is not a big fan of Houston's (I know, how??? He had to have one fault I guess) and they are not fans of kids here, so it has to be my solo spot. Although more recently I've had a standing date with two very special girlfriends and we dish and laugh the whole night. The menu here is easy: always get the grilled artichoke (when in season). Pick between the Hawaiian ribeye, the Thai noodle salad or the ribs (I usually go ribs) with a baked potato. And always, always get the hot fudge sundae. Minus 2 stars for taking away the option to add steak to the noodle salad and for there always being an insane line to sit at the bar. That said the hostesses were very friendly upon entering the restaurant and the bartender was also very friendly with a warm smile. He was engaging to the other patrons who were sitting at the bar. We had a weird combination as my date wanted to order french fries which was served uniquely in a silver cup shown in the photograph. It was an appetizer small size and just average. I ordered a caesar salad which was very average. We shared the warm apple walnut cobbler which was delicious. The only thing I can say negative was it had a very tiny scoop of ice cream.
