I should have checked the reviews before going. Their customer service is nothing short of abhorrent. I found out firsthand how downright offensive and hostile these employees are. not only they were useless and dismissive when i asked for something but had a ridiculous aura of pompous arrogance i have ever seen. Spent over a thousand on plants and a rake. the rake literally snapped in half the first time I pushed it into the ground and nearly tore off a part of my finger. I returned it the next day with the receipt and tag still intact. as soon as they saw me coming in with the rake, they came at me ready for a fight. as if their aggressive and crude behavior wasn't shocking enough, one of them who claimed he was the manager told me to "get lost" while he and his buddies enjoyed exchanges of approving smirks as if they found this amusing and fun. Felt like i was dealing with thugs. needless to say will never go near a Houston Garden Center again. read more

I bought 14 trees from this place and the trees are amazing! I got Magnolias and Live Oak Trees and the prices were the lowest out of all the other places, I compared them all. Just be advised, if you're going to buy from here, it's a do-it-yourself thing. The employees here help you load up the trees but they do not know much about anything else. Don't expect to be guided on everything here but definitely expect the best prices. Do your research on what trees to get and what fertilizer etc to get. The staff were great helping us load all the trees and the prices are insanely good! We got 50% off and the trees look amazing at our home! read more

A large investment in inventory as they have lots of choices from which to select. I liked that their space is large and we are provided enough room to browse and it is clean and tidy. Absolutely NO service. We went to their BIG sale where they advertise on the billboard out front that ALL shrubs are 50% off, only to find that the shrubs we were buying were NOT 50% off. Very deceptive!!! We couldn't find anybody there who really knew anything about plants. We went three days in a row only to find the same lack of service each day. read more

We were planning on spending a few hundred dollars on a 4 trees this evening at the north woodlands location near HWY 1488. We loaded our cart with largest Leyland Cypress and 3 smallest Italian cypress the only sign in front of them read 19.99. We get to the counter and the cashier said they were 29.99. We told her about the sign and she said "no 29.99". My husband went to go take a picture of the metal sign in front of the plants and found someone to assist him. The guy said, "That sign is wrong. They are supposed to be 29.99. I'm the manager, they are 29.99." No apologies for the inconvenience, mistake, etc... If the manager was even remotely remorseful about the incident or explained about the price change, we would not have left empty handed. His arrogance is mainly why we decided to leave. Lesson learned, smaller nurseries are the way to go. read more

Upon entering the store, I instantly noticed the staff's unbridled joie de vivre; one staff member stood with arms folded, the other staring into space as if the victim of unresolved trauma, and the other hunched over, as if he hadn't slept in days. I entered and greeted them, being met with a grunt and two apathetic looks. I wondered if they had all recently been told they were being laid off or if there might be some other reason for their crestfallen demeanors. I went outside to look at the flowers (after assuming they were indifferent as to if I ever returned) and was pleasantly surprised by the good selection of flowers and their bountiful yields. Eventually, we made it to checkout, and the staff was mellowed out (no issues to report). Good plant nursery overall, just not the most jovial. read more

A friend told us he got a great deal on some trees at this place so off we went. Since it's located off the access road adjacent to the I-45 it wasn't easy to get here due to road closures and traffic. Most of the trees that we wanted to look at were already sold. But the the downer for us was that they don't deliver or plant the trees for you. Huh??? Since I'm not sporting a giant TX Pick-Up this wasn't the place for me. I'll have to look elsewhere (someone who can provide "Princess Planting Services") They had lots of pretty flowers and friendly helpers but didn't buy anything on this trip. read more

If I could give them ZERO STARS I would. They don't answer the phones. Calls are sent straight to voice mail. That is both unprofessional and just plain financially irresponsible....... because apparently they don't care about building up the business revenue. They advertise on tv like they are so great, but simple things like no phone presence discredits them. Hire staff who you will train to know what they are talking about, pay them so they will stick around if they are good and will present professionally. They do not know anything about gardening or plants, and are not interested in the customer experience. Also, they do not warrant or guarantee anything-period. You will not get a refund or exchange, no matter what. I have had good luck with some plants I bought here, but have had several infested plants as well. Check them closely-I don't believe they treat anything in the store. I had to replace an entire bed (soil, mulch and plants) due to the infested Pentas I planted there. read more

I would give a zero rating if that was possible. The employees were extremely rude. They looked like they were sleeping standing up. There was one at a register writing on some bags and she continued writing while we were standing right in front of her. She threw her pen down and rang up our plants. She never spoke, not even to tell me how much I owed. After she gave me the receipt, I said "thank you" and she still didn't speak or make eye contact. I said "have a nice day!" And as I walked out I said I couldn't believe they never even speak to the customers. That place has the rudest employees and the worst customer service. Workers there were nice and helpful! I bought many flowers and shrubs, although most didn't make it two days. I returned them with receipt to exchange they said it says at the bottom of the ticket, which you don't get until you have already bought everything, no returns or exchanges. Called the main center they were EXTREMELY RUDE and said oh well you should have read the receipt that you get after you buy the product. The shrubs, plants and flowers are dried up and don't come back to life. Stay away from this horrible place! read more

I give it 2 stars because this place does have nice annual flowers to buy. However, the rest of the plants (shrubs, trees, perennials) are lack of maintenance and look VERY bad and leggy!! Not worth the money. Currently Houston Garden Center is running 50% off in September. Plants are worst of the worst. Shrubs are leggy and struggling. With similar price (half off) plus a few dollars more, I can buy plants from nearby plant nurseries that look like being loved and taken care of. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. Moved back to TX after 13 years in NC. We were looking forward to going to Houston Garden Center, which we used to like. Boy were we disappointed. Their selection is anemic (S Conroe location). We found a Shumard Red Oak we wanted to buy, but we needed help getting it. I'm handicapped; lost both my hands and much of my ability to walk in an accident four years ago. My wife has bad arthritis in her shoulders. We seldom ask for help, but we were pretty tired after a day of searching for a tree. We asked the man at the front of the store if someone could help us. He pointed out a man in a red hat. My wife had me sit down because I was pretty worn out. She asked him if he would go with her to the back of the facility to help her load the tree. He said "No". Thinking he misunderstood, she asked again in a little more detail. He said "No" again. Thinking it might be a language issue, she asked if he understood her. He assured her he did and kept on doing what he was doing. I am grateful to Houston GC for employing this guy. We left without our tree, but we found Growers Outlet in Conroe. You really feel unwelcomed the moment you walk in. No one asks you if you need help and they are extremely rude. We needed palm tree fertilizer and asked were it was the guy said "Its over there and pointed". Just pointing too the left side of the store. He finally took a deep sigh and showed us and said "this is what we got and walked away. I overheard a lady ask if this plant was indoor or outdoor and he grab the tag sticking out and said "Indoor See Can't you read? The check out lady looked and acted like a drug addict and didn't say hi or bye. Just looked down the whole time. We were also looking for some plants but they are 15% higher than the Home Depot. Went too the Home Depot were we spent our money. This place sucks plain and simple. read more

Absolutely no customer service. Arrived at the Humble location with a plan for 20 to 23 new plants, but I had some questions about plants I selected. No one could answer any questions, many of the signs had all boxes checked like plant good for Full Sun, Partial Shade and Shade - it made no sense. I loaded the plants I felt good about on to 3 carts along with soil and fertilizer but couldn't get anyone to help me get them to the cash register. I finally managed to push all 3 carts up front. I have an hour + drive and it was windy so I asked if they had anything to help protect the plants during the drive, like plastic that was wrapped around the pallets of dirt. No they weren't willing to help with that either so I decided to leave it and drive to the Conroe location to see if the customer service was any better. I asked the cashier for assistance, he pointed me to a man at the back of the store. I walked down to him, showed him my plan and wanted to start selecting plants. He said, " I am way too busy to help you, I have a lot of work to do." After seeing all the commercials, I was shocked at the lack of professionalism and service with Houston Garden Centers. I left with over $250 on the carts and that wasn't even everything I needed. read more

Welps, it's springtime again and it's time for me to make my front yard look somewhat decent before the HOA Nazis threaten me for devaluing my neighbors' homes. So when I need to buy dirt, fertilizer, magnolia trees, or flowers, I usually hit up this spot off the feeder. They have a good selection of flowers depending on the season with good pricing. I'll often buy colorful yellow and white mums with some orange pumpkins during the fall. Summertime is good to buy sods of grass when patches of mine inevitably die due to strict water restrictions up here. This time of year is good to fill the yard with pansies. And they have a great selection of pansies here with helpful service. Did I really admit to buying/planting pansies? Ok time to go do an oil change on my car, drink lots of beer, and go eat at Hooters. read more

I went to the Conroe location at 10:30 am on a week day (the place was empty). I had some questions regarding some plants / shrubs. I asked an employee and he did not know and said I would need to talk to a manager. I walked around looking for him with no luck. I asked a cashier and she said I need to ask a manager. I found a third employee and he told me the same thing. I went back to the cashier and asked if she would call for the manager. She said - Ma'am this is a self serve place and the manager is busy (I counted 6 customers in the entire place). I responded that this is a plant nursery but none of the employees could answer any questions regarding plants. The cashiers rude response was - YOU HAVE GOGGLE, DON'T YOU! I promptly left this location and went to All American Nursery on 1488 and EVERYONE there were extremely helpful and polite. I will never again go to a Houston Garden Center.
