This was a stellar experience and a must do! My church group organized this event, and I decided to go. My mom was in town, so she tagged along. Mind you, my Mom is in her 70s, and she enjoyed herself, so axe throwing can be enjoyed by people of all ages! The location is off 59. If you're not looking for it or have never been there before, you may miss it, so definitely GPS it. The location has adequate parking as well as lighting so I felt safe. From the outside, the place doesn't look that big, but it it pretty spacious inside with several axe throwing lanes towards the side and back. What I didn't expect was the jumbo size board games tossed around the front. Mom and I indulged in Jenga waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. They also had jumbo size connect four as well and a seating area which is great to just chat and kick back with some friends while coming here. HAT also serves a little alcohol but I passed on that indulgence since you know throwing an axe does seem to be an activity that requires sobriety in my opinion. Once more, food is not served here, so don't bring an appetite before throwing them axes! Before your axe throwing experience, you do receive a tutorial. Ashley did a great job sharing tips and do nots to keep everyone safe. She floated around and checked on group the entire hour we were there as well as gave a tutorial for a few people who arrived after the first group tutorial. Very helpful and friendly as well as offered assistance to those who just couldn't get that axe to stick in the board. As far as the axe throwing is concerned- what a blast! You definitely will have more fun if you take someone who is competitive. Once more, the larger the group the less throws you get to have within your hour so keep that in mind. Afterwhile, we just allowed people to go when the axe was free and people kept up with their own points. My mom must have thrown a few axes in her life because she was hitting targets super easy! It took me a little time to get comfortable with throwing the axe and figuring out how much distance I needed as well as strength to get the axe to stick, but I think everyone goes through that their first time. Time flies when you're having fun and the hour axe throwing experience was over before I knew it, but lots of laughs (and arguments--in fun lol) were made with our memories of this place. HAt is a definite must do if you're looking to do something different. Just make sure you have a photographer ready to take pics of you hitting your target! Also, for a great photo opportunity, ask for the giant axe to pose with. Good times and good memories for all! read more

Unfortunately, we did not have the most positive experience at this location. The service was lackluster from the staff and the atmosphere in the space was dull and unsettling. My first time coming to this location, I came solo and had a positive experience. However, this time was my second time and I brought my family members with me. Melissa had poor customer service yelling at us across the room and being impatient with our appointment time that was already prepaid. Not to mention the price was not worth the experience, therefore since many in my group were greeted poorly they decided not to participate in the axe throwing. Needless to say this messed up the entire experience. I recommend the staff get better customer service skills by training and treating everyone the way they would want to be treated as customers. Try another axe throwing place. This one is not a fun place for groups wanting to have a fun experience. read more

This was a really fun date night! You can book ahead online and choose your add-ons. We added on the knife throwing. They have a selection of snacks, beer, and wine that is available for purchase. You start off with a short lesson of how to throw the axe and knife (if you add on knife throwing). There's also a booklet that has different ways you can play against one another. You can take your snacks and drinks with but of course they have to stay behind a certain point After the brief lesson, you're free to throw as you please. The staff is very accessible and also make sure they check in on you periodically. At the end they bring a bigger axe for a photo with your group. The facility itself is what I imagined it to be - pretty basic but clean. There are a couple of photos ops and the staff will assist with taking any additional photos. Overall a fun place for a date night or any other group outing - great staff! read more

Such a GREAT night out!! I love trying new things. My husband and I visited our friends in Houston and decided to come on a Friday night. We easily made reservations online for 5pm. We didn't know what to expect and I was a little nervous to be honest! But we had James and Megan as our instructors to help teach us and they were awesome! They ran through rules and how to throw and then we each were able to try it out. Then the instructors showed us some fancy ways of throwing but for our safety we weren't allowed to try them. But they looked cool! We were able to play TIMBER and First to 50 for our group of four people. I was sad how quickly our hour and a half session came and went. There was even a small bar by the front. I liked that they had lots of craft beer options along with wine. The decor is minimal which is to be expected at a place like this. Their parking lot is small and since we aren't from the area, I'm not sure if there was additional parking elsewhere or not. I know what everyone's getting for Christmas!! read more

We decided to come here to try out something new. I see it's a trendy thing to do these days, and I like to try out the new trends before they disappear. It is located off Bellaire and 59 and is easy to find. The parking lot is tiny, so I opted to park on the street. We purchased our tickets earlier in the week and also filled out the waiver online. This definitely saves a bunch of time when you get to the venue. The smell of wood hits you when you walk in and I instantly felt a little more manly. There's definitely alot of testosterone floating around in this place! After checking in at the desk, we got to pick clever ax throwing names. If you feel like you got something better, you can create your own name. I went with "Spruce Lee"! Every lane has two boards and they try and maximize the space with two teams. You may be stuck with random strangers, but the team atmosphere makes you make friends quite fast. I volunteered to team up with strangers while the rest of my friends stuck together as a team. I may have made some new BFF's in the process. Each lane is assigned an instructor who teaches you the ins and outs of ax throwing. After a few practice runs throwing one handed and two handed, the games begin. We went with the 1.5 hour session which gave us enough time to play 3 games. We played TIMBER which is alot like HORSE in basketball. We then played the first team to 40 without going over wins. To finish off we played Tic Tac Toe. It gets really competitive which to me makes for a great time. Beverages of the alcoholic and non alcoholic variety are both available for purchase. This is a great place for team building activities, group outings, bachelor parties, or even date night. I would come back! read more

I know I'm late and sorry for the delay This place hands down was a hidden gem. I've lived here for going on two years and I've driven down the stretch of highway hundreds of times and did not know this was here. Yes I should have yelped search but I didn't. From the start the young lady was amazing. She made sure to go over every step, watch us, and than critique to make better. And it worked. We had the axe and knives. Took me a few tries since I kept using muscle and not technique. Once my body got with the program I started to land more on the wood. The place was clean. It was empty since we got there when they first opened. The dog was so chill and relaxed. Such a good boy. I will make sure to spread the word about this place. Good way to have fun and release some stress. read more

A friend came to visit and wanted to check it out so off we went to whack away at large wooden boards. Made the appointment online and after arriving about 10 minutes before the scheduled time, we were checked in and taken to our area. The place was pretty full with guests but the cages are far enough apart to not feel crowded. I've been axe throwing before but since my friend hadn't, we got a brief lesson from one of the employees. They even offered some tips and explained the games we could play. If you've never been, it's definitely much harder than it looks and based on your current workout plan, you might feel a little sore the next day. That's not to dissuade you because it's definitely a good time. Can't wait until another friend wants to go! read more

Axe throwing is a super fun activity to do with a group! No one needs to be athletic or be fit or anything, ha! I brought my out-of-town visitors here and they had such a good time. Also, we wanted an indoor activity to escape the Houston summer heat, and so glad we came here! For six people, we had two lanes. A safety and intro training sesh started off our activity, which I appreciated, so it gave us an idea on how to handle the axe and different techniques. After the intro from our instructor, who was super cool, then our group was able to start our "game", and TBH, in the beginning, none of our axes were sticking, but with some help from our instructor who was observing us, and also probably nerves with the blade, the last 30 mins, all of us were sticking em and getting really competitive. Such an enjoyable experience, and I highly recommend. I recommend making reservations, but they do accept walk-ins, but I wouldn't take my chances, because we went on a weekday early afternoon, and all lanes were occupied. They do serve some drinks and snacks for purchase, no hot foods. Also, if you watched House of Ho, this is the same axe throwing place they went! read more

We came here during our Store Manager conference for our Team Activity. This is a great group activity and promotes competition with one another if you're the competitive type! Plus, if no one has thrown an axe before, no one has an advantage. You check in, pick a punny axe name, grab a few drinks (beers and non alcoholics), and can hang out in the waiting area til your axepert is ready for you. They have card games and a big Jenga. Our axepert was Axe-xavier and he made our experience extremely fun! I won't get into too many details (you'll have to see for yourself) but the games were very fun and challenged us. You are trained how to throw the axe for the first half hour or so and then you're throwing the remainder of your time. Don't forget to wear close-toed shoes! They also don't permit heels but I saw some ladies wearing heels while throwing axes so *shrugs* to each their own. I would say wear comfortable shoes so you can have better balance in case one of the axes are too heavy. Thank you Axe-xavier and Houston Axe for a great activity while visiting! read more

Awesome time hurling an axe 12' into a wall while you're surrounded by super chill people enjoying the same. Great date option. Really want to go back on shrooms to do the paint splatter canvas fun. Me & my friend, Amanda, were considering Top Golf for a nice evening, well, then we saw online the cost for 2 hours of swinging clubs. Toss in some food & drinks then you're out about $200! Since neither of us are trust fund babies, it was a pass on golf. Thank goodness Amanda said "Let's throw axes!" She was serious. I had no clue such a place was in this area. Voila! We wound up at Houston Axe Throwing on Larkwood. Plenty of lanes (if that's what they're called), friendly staff for safety & coaching techniques to enhance the experience. Everything was top notch. I've been to places where you rent your lane then you're on your own. Nah, this place is a nice clean setup to make sure you have fun. All drinks are in a can or bottle & I wasn't wild about that. Get some drinks on tap, please. The Asst. Manager, Bryan Brezina, handled our training, and coaching. The guy is first rate & I appreciated the Dallas Cowboys cap he wore. Lane rentals are for 1 hour. Btw, they have more happening than just throwing axes, hatchets, and knives. Check out their website at www.houstonaxe.com for more ways to have a helluva good time. I had never heard of such a thing before this place opened, but after getting a Groupon, my wife and I swung by to check it out. The 2.5 hour session is well worth it. Your trainer (I think our guy was Steve?) walks you through the steps and has everyone rotate through a couple of practice rounds. They are very good about safety measures, including a rule where you don't actually hand off the axes-- you set them down and someone else picks them up. After a couple of practice rounds, we went into mini-games, where they played TIMBER (basically an axe-throwing version of HORSE), and a points match where we tried to get to 30. Following the mini-games was a tournament. I felt that six throws per person per round made the tournament go a bit long (especially for those of us who were eliminated in the first round), but we still finished before our session time had ended. Our instructor showed us some trick shots (underhanded, opposite handed, two-handed), so we played another mini game (Tic Tac Toe), and had some open throwing where we got to practice whatever we wanted. Altogether, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back! read more

We had SO much fun doing axe throwing as part of our anniversary date. As soon as we walked in we were greeted warmly. The staff were wearing masks but patrons were not required. We came in with an appointment and we only had to wait for a few minutes while they prepared a space for us. There's giant Connect Four in the foyer whole you wait, which I thought was a cute touch. In addition to add throwing they have some alcoholic beverages in a refrigerator that you can buy, and you can also add on knife throwing for $5. David was the one who trained us how to throw and took care of us for the entire time. He was super friendly, professional, and thorough and came over to check on us often. He also gave some really good on the spot tips if he was walking by when we were throwing. I was insanely nervous that I was going to accidentally chop my own head off but it was super safe and not hard at all. I definitely want to go back to try out the knife throwing! read more

I brought my boyfriend here for a date. It was pretty nice. We got the axe and the knife for our session. Daniel was really excited for our group visit. I had far more fun axe throwing than I ever thought I would. Alcohol prices are reasonable but I wish it was BYOB. Parking lot is huge and easy to deal with. We had a reservation for 6 players and were pitted against another group of strangers, which made for a fun social activity even though we were just wanting to play with ourselves. It was a little strange at first but once Daniel got the games going, our respective competitive sides came out and went wild. Just go if you're on the fence! read more

Customer service here was simply amazing, I don't think amazing is good enough it was astounding. When you first get there you're greeted by Byran. Billy and David gave clear instructions and helped along the way. if either one of the guys saw that our form was a little bit rocky they would help give suggestions that worked for our body and stature. This place was loads of fun. Went on a quiet Friday afternoon with my beau. Very few people there. We had Jaime as our staff aid. He was very patient and gave us a good instruction since it was our first time. I felt safe. You get 1 hour for the $25pp fee. Time flew right by. I was terrible at it and my husband was like a pro. They have drinks...including a nice selection of beer and cider. This is a very good date Night spot. Just ensure that you and your partner are on good terms because maaaaaaan. Also, it is a surprisingly good upper body workout. My back, arms and chest was on fire for about 3 or 4 days after. So stretch accordingly. Finally, if it's your first time, maybe choose non peak hours. I would imagine I'd have been a lot more nervous if we had multiple parties flanking us. Final grade: A I'd Def come back! read more

First time doing this yesterday and I absolutely LOVED it! Got here a little late cause of traffic and realized they really so start by the reservation time you book, so make sure you arrive early. Signed the waiver, got checked in, and started axe throwing right away! It was cool, cause it was only me and my gf with one other couple so it felt more private and personable. Glad we chose the guided option. Our guide was ARMANI and he was awesome and made our experience so fun and comfortable. We played games against the other couple which I really enjoyed and kept it interesting. Even though my gf was feeling a bit under the weather, she still enjoyed her time. I HIGHLY recommend for something different - date night, hang out with friends, team builder, etc. read more

Billy is great! Takes a while to get the hang of it. It fun and a lil bit of a workout

I came with a group from my Sunday school class, and we had the BEST time. Armani was our axepert, and he cheered us on and gave tips every time we threw. He was also super patient (because some of us were BAD throwers). They allow food delivery, but outside drinks cannot be brought in. I feel like you absolutely get your money's worth, and the employees make the experience top notch. My husband's bachelor party was here, and he still talks about how much he loved this place. Told my husband I was planning on taking him somewhere "beautifully romantic" for Valentine's Day. When I told him where we were going, he was stoked! They had a separate special Valentine's Day event going, and it was pretty busy. We had just signed up for the regular session though. We were in a group of 12, with an Axepert, who gave everyone a quick how-to and explained the safety rules, and then led everyone through the games. How did we do? My husband was amazing, and I completely sucked. To be fair, due to spinal surgery years ago, some nerve damage left me with a bit of strength/coordination issues, so I actually couldn't get the axe to even stick more than once, LOL! Even throwing the small axes one handed, I had a hard time getting the axe to go the distance. Oh well, more practice- preferably with fewer people watching! It was worth the embarrassment to watch my husband nail it almost every time. He got to take a pic with the sacred ceremonial Lumber Lord axe at the end of the night. I was so proud of him! Our Axepert was a nice guy, but didn't really have the chance spend a lot of time (I could have used a bit of coaching) or offer a whole lot of individual suggestions. Granted he had 12 of us, going 2 at a time, fast paced, and had to practically shout - it was pretty loud in there. He was very safety oriented, though and made sure we didn't lose any fingers! Everyone was having a good time. As first-timers we were surprised when the Axepert gave the "tips appreciated" PSA at the end of the session. Who knew? The facility was well run, nice and cool inside, and as I said, safety was paramount. They have a bar with all kinds of beers, meads and wine, and non-alcoholic options. We tried the mead, which was good, but we're not huge drinkers. They do have a great selection though! There's a lounge area with comfy chairs where you can hang while waiting for your group. We will definitely go again, and will try to go on a not-so-busy night. I would love to take another whack at itwithout the pressure of a dozen people watching, especially when you're on a team trying to win! All in all - it was an absolute blast! I think it's a genius date night idea! If you haven't been, I recommend giving Axe throwing a try. No matter what, you can't help but have an axe-load of fun! read more

Great coach. He helped throughout. The place was clean and a great time for all. We will definitely be back.

If you are interested in trying something new yet challenging, try axe throwing because why not? I was a bit hesitant on this, but from the price of $25/pp for a 1.5 hour session with an instructor, it was a steal. There are beverages both alcoholic and non available along with snacks. The restrooms are decently cleaned. They give away trophies too!! Greg did a fantastic job guiding us with our axes. As I said it was challenging, it was definitely a new spin on activity that's for sure. Greg gave my group and another group games for us to compete. Although we didn't do as hot as the others, they earned trophies for winning the competitions. A nice souvenir for memories. I do want to say I did feel extremely safe doing this. Greg ensured that we took many precautions and we all left with 10 fingers and toes. Great time from a great experience. read more

Amazing experience at Houston Axe Throwing! I went with 2 other friends since we wanted to do a fun/different activity in the Houston area. This did not disappoint. We had already paid online prior to coming, and scheduled a date and time that worked best for us. As we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff and were asked to sign a waiver form. There was already another group inside, and we were told our 2 groups would team up against one another. Our instructor was awesome, I forgot his name but he was so accommodating and helpful. We sucked when we started, but he gave us amazing pointers and tips so we could get a bulls eye. By the end we were pros hehe. The games they have to compete against each other are sooooo much fun and so intense! The hour and a half flew by without us realizing it. As first timers, six of us were extremely impressed by the overall experience. The customer service and the hands on instructional training we got before and during our session was the highlight when you aren't hitting the target our instructor Austin and another gentleman would occasionally come by and see that someones form was off and make suggestions and sure enough you'd hit the target. I would definitely recommend this business for date night, a group of friends or anyone who is interested in doing something different and fun! All six of of said we will definitely be back is a testament to how much fun we had! read more

Needed a date night and a stress reliever, this fit the bill perfectly. The intro/lesson was brief but insightful. The axe felt much lighter than I expected and the 1 hand method was the only one I felt comfortable doing. Once you get used to the it all feels safe.
