After getting back from Oklahoma, where I was doing some work, I received a call for a private…read moreutility locate through my company, Marcor Utilities, LLC. The job was on the west side of Houston near Westheimer and Kirkwood. Since my kids had been with me after we had gone to watch a movie earlier that day, they came along for the locate. While driving, we noticed the grand opening signs for YoYo Adventureland. We decided to stop in, and I'm glad we did because it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable family experiences we've had in a long time. This isn't your typical arcade. They have a trampoline park, a huge variety of interactive arcade games, and prize machines that feature quality items instead of the usual inexpensive toys. Many of the games felt fresh and innovative, and several were unlike anything I've seen before in the U.S. Some of them reminded me of the unique arcades you see in Japan or South Korea. One thing that really stood out was how involved the owners were. They were walking around the entire facility, talking with guests, making sure everyone was having a great time, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was just as friendly and helpful. My kids absolutely loved the updated version of Dance Dance Revolution, and they also had an RC military tank battle game that was a lot of fun. Another favorite was a marble game where you strategically tilt the marbles to earn tickets or prizes. It was completely different from the traditional coin pusher games you usually find at places like Dave & Buster's or Main Event. We also took advantage of the photo booth, which was a great way to remember the day. We purchased the $100 VIP game card, and I highly recommend going that route instead of buying tokens. The game card gives you access to attractions and games where tokens can't be used, making it much more convenient. The prizes were another pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual dollar store quality items, many of the toys were well made, durable, and even included build-it-yourself kits that families could enjoy together. By the time we left, my kids were already asking if they could have their birthday party there. That's probably the biggest compliment they could give. If you're looking for a fun family outing or even a unique date night, I highly recommend checking out YoYo Adventureland. It's a refreshing experience with friendly staff, great attractions, and an atmosphere that's genuinely enjoyable for both kids and adults. From what I was told, they've only been open for about a month, and if they continue providing this level of experience, I think they'll become one of Houston's top family entertainment destinations.

The birthday party we went to started at 5pm, which is late for a birthday, but it was still jammed packed. All parties checking in for birthdays just head upstairs, usually the host already has the socks and wristbands for play. Our party was in the middle of the top floor and the stairs were on either side of the upstairs space, Being in the middle meant you had to crawl through a bunch of parties, in a pretty narrow area, to get to your designation. Design flaw for sure. It was just so chaotic. Yoyo had an indoor "gym" space with trampolines and a ball pit, which a small section for virtual reality games on the screen. You have to scan your wristband to gain entry into this area.. there's a small section with chubbies to store your shoes and belongings right as you enter the bounce space. There's a ball pit with slides and an obstacle course like area inside. There's a tiny section in the back of this area designated for small toddlers. The other side of Yoyo Land is the arcade. Claw machines that are crazy rigged cause the claw just randomly opens mid run. Some of the arcade game takes coins and some only take a card, potentially for members only. It's weird that you can't just play everything with one payment method. A lot of the machines were already out of service or they'll take your coins and not work. Instructions are in Chinese or something so you can't really understand what to do. A waste of money at times and so not cool. We got bored after a while cause we had too many coins for a limited selection of options. There's a few games geared towards older kids, the virtual reality games and the first person shooters like The Walking Dead. The neon lights and loud music gave me a headache at the end of the night..not sure about cleanliness cause I'm sure I got sick the next day. Might be exposure to the kids vs exposure to the space. The staff is extremely diligent about keeping the place spotless and the bathrooms are very clean (#3). For the babies and toddlers of the world, there is lots of room to run around, climb mini structures, and indulge in a ballpit. The soft matte floor space makes falls and spills seem like an afterthought. For slightly older ones, there is a ninja adventure space on the other side, which allows for obstacles galore while burning lots of energy. It's the liveliest area and is a good reminder that everyone should be wearing grip socks. (#4) For adults, they have an entire cafe area that has table seating, free WiFi, charging ports, and a full menu of hot food items and drinks. I sat with others over caffeinated drinks, snacks, and good conversation. The last thing I thought I'd be doing at an indoor playground was indulging on a peanut butter mocha latte, matcha, chicken tenders, pizza, and mac and cheese. Additional food options included salads, açaí bowls, smoothies, and bento boxes. For party planners, they have private rooms with tiered packages that are all much more involved than other similar spots. I was impressed with the balloon garland, customized panel backdrop, and full service with foods with setup and clean up. I'm most impressed with this since it really takes the guesswork out for busy families trying to plan special events. Some folks may not be fond of the prices ($24 for open play, $59-89 for monthly memberships, and $375-750 for party packages) and the weekend crowds, but it is a premium service that is not common with most indoor playgrounds. I never thought I'd say I'd be interested in attending a child's party, but this venue was impressive enough for me to want every party to be here (#5). I'll be armed with a laptop, thirsty for some drinks, and enjoying the energy around the room, and a robust staff that keeps things orderly and clean. The place can get really packed when it's a ton of birthdays so something to keep in mind. Free entry is granted if it's with a birthday, yet you pay for the skates. Their food is basic but good. You can tell it's premade and just warmed up when ready. I will say I question some music choices when it's a bunch of kids but I think it's just my old adult mind. I truly would be scared to skate if it's a bunch of kids. As they are falling all over the place. So something to keep in mind when planning a trip here. Yet it still has the old school skating feels so nostalgia is real. Oh oh oh and before I forget if their parking lot gets full you can park next door in the adjacent lot. We were given incorrect information about where/how to set up for our party, which ultimately resulted in confusion with another party. We were then accused of being late, even though we were not late (there was 3 parties similar ages and same names different spelling). Instead of management clarifying that the confusion was caused by incorrect information given to us, the other party's parents confronted and verbally attacked us. The lack of organization and communication from management was unacceptable, and the situation could have been easily avoided with proper communication. Sharing this so other parents can double-check every detail, even with us providing correct info, and echoing back info we received we were still told the wrong info. We expected a fun birthday experience, not unnecessary drama caused by poor management and communication.

It seems like every plaza has its own claw machine setup now. While many of these places aren't that spacious, this one felt especially small. It recently opened, and the prizes seem to haven't changed much since then (Based on online pictures) The staff member who helped us was really friendly, which I appreciated. However, the claw itself is pretty tough--it tends to grab and drop items easily, and there's not much control over its movement. Still, it is possible to win things if you're lucky. Its 1 coin and $1 per play. About half the plushies are Pokémon-themed, and the rest are a mix of Sanrio items and other random prizes. They also have some machines with mystery boxes you can grab. Overall, the format is similar to all the other claw machines. I've only visited once, and I'd rate it 3 stars mainly because of the great customer service. Aside from that, nothing really stood out--but I might come back again and update my thoughts.
