Do not hire this company. Attention to detail, communication, training for employees, professionalism, and actual cleaning is all lacking. Going into detail would be too long at this point, but the summary is I was promised 2 people for a deep clean. I got 1 person and almost half a clean. Kitchen was mostly skipped. Bathrooms half done. No floors were mopped. Dusting was minimal. And on & on. When I asked why - they sent the person back to do the work. But I had to manage her. After printing the list from the website that had the promised work- the cleaning gal was not able to answer my questions and had a reason for each mistake or forgotten task. The tech was equally unhelpful. He was defensive of his employee, combative in the list, lied about the second employee that was promised. Tech gas lighting ensued. I was also called a stereo typer for complaining that the cleaning gal had a friend get dropped off at my home and they sat in front of my property for awhile afterwards. Instead of, a worried individual with a child at home, who is not sure what other unprofessionalism is going to occur at my house. I was accused of violating the contractual service that was not upheld in even half an attempt. I've never not paid for a service- but this was so poor, not contractually completed, and after conversations- just insulting. So if you like wasting time, managing people who can't follow lists and argue with you, and ruining your Monday- this company is for you. read more

Finding a good and reliable house cleaning service has been a challenge so I was excited when I found House Spouse. Communication was quick and clear and they were able to schedule us for the following week. The actual service provided, however, was disappointing. My floors were only partially cleaned - ledges, corners and against walls were not touched No straightening was done - trashcans, kiddo stools, etc were left sitting on "clean" counters (that's not where I left them) Everything just had a very lazy and disinterested feel to it, and that's something I can do myself as the very poor housekeeper I am. I emailed my contact person in their office and she apologized (kind of) for the quality of the clean and assured me they'd do better next time, if I'd give them another chance. She told me the woman who cleaned for us that day had been sick so she wasn't herself. Ok. It still cost me the full price though. The lady in the office did not offer to make things better or really in any way attempt to secure our ongoing business. So I will not be using them again. read more

We recently hired House Spouse to come in to clean our house on a bi-weekly basis. My wife found them online and liked their detailed website and reasonable pricing. My first contact with them was via email, and because I left it kind of late and then it took a couple of days to get a reply from HS, we weren't able to get them into clean in time before we had house-guests come stay with us for a week, so we ended up doing that cleaning ourselves. Admittedly, I'm a mediocre house keeper, and until recently the cleaning duties in our home were mine, as I have been working at home for the last few years. We're Canadian. It's complicated. I was essentially a House Husband and therefore all of the cooking, cleaning, errands, odd-jobs, laundry, pool, yard, pets work were on my duty roster. I was so into being a House Husband I even started writing Haiku poetry about it. Here is my very first HouseHusband Haiku which came to me as I sorted dirty clothes in the laundry room: Laundry Cunning Foe. I Fight Yet You Multiply. She Never Wore This. But I digress. I know it is possible to clean effectively. I get it as a concept. On the occasion my wife cleans, I witness first-hand the zeal, focus and effort that some people put into cleaning something well. For instance, when I clean a bathroom it takes me about 10-15mins tops. I use Windex for everything including the floor which I foot-mop with an old towel. I call it "Hoteling the room." My wife on the other hand, gets out a bucket and scrub brush and uses specific cleaning agents designed for specific bathroom cleaning tasks the likes of which boggle the mind of a cleansing laggard like myself. Did you know they invented a product just for cleaning grout?! I was all like: "You're supposed to clean grout?" One day after living together for 6 months: Her: "Could you maybe dust more often?" Me: "Uh, sure, cuz I don't dust at all." Her: "But you were so clean when we started dating! Your apartment was spotless!" Me: "Well I'll grant you that it was TIDY, but had you run your hand over the top of the TV you'd've pulled back a fuzzy mitten!" You get the idea. I'm just not that motivated, and short of getting a Ritalin prescription, I generally find cleaning the house to be lame. I find myself looking for ways to lallygag and cut-corners. One of the ways is to avoid cleaning IN corners. Another is to binge-watch Netflix. In any case, as I am now working outside the house, I'm no longer having to spend my days at home trying to earn Employee Of The Month status anymore. (I only won that 3 times in as many years, and given the fact I was the only one considered, you can imagine the level of cleaning mediocrity to which I subscribe. Hence our hiring of (the ironically named ) House Spouse. The sign-up process over the phone with Jenais was friendly and informative. She, Kim and Nancy arrived ahead of schedule the day of our first deep clean, which is a necessity when beginning service. We all four toured the house and I introduced them to our three beloved and spoiled male cats (known to us as The Dudes). Once we had the particulars arranged and the non-binding service agreement signed, Jenais departed and Kim and Nancy (who will be our regular cleaner) proceeded to clean the Bejeezus out of our house! They found bejeezus in places I had never considered, like on the tops of our living room ceiling fans which are 12 feet off the ground! They were here for about 3 hours and they even managed to clean the glass on two of my sliding doors that I had asked them to do, a service which is usually an add-on. After they were done, they had me inspect their work and were willing to touch up anything I found they had missed. It should be noted that given my weak cleaning ethics, I thought they had used some type of cleaning voodoo the house was so clean in my books! My wife, who is about the toughest person to please in terms of cleanliness was actually impressed when she got home! She did manage to find two small areas that could use a touch up, but I noted them in an email to HS and they will be sure to get them next time. Their work is 100% guaranteed and they will come back if needed to make it right if you aren't happy. House Spouse is amazing! I look forward to our first regular service visit next week. I'm thankful that FINALLY someone better qualified and better skilled is now doing the brunt of our house cleaning and I can get back to doing other things, like writing epic Yelp reviews. You would think a "deep cleaning" would include mopping the bathrooms, scrubbing the shower/tub and wiping down the doors but maybe they forgot. For the price they charge I would not recommend this service to anyone. If you do give them a try I highly suggest you request a written copy of the quote so you know what all you're paying for. Specify if you need certain appliances to be cleaned. Don't assume they will do it just because they have two people cleaning your house for 4hrs. Wanted a deep clean in order to put our house on the market. I do a pretty good job with the cleaning usually, but I am now pregnant so I didn't want to be around chemicals. Found House Spouse on the Next Door website and on Yelp. They had good overall reviews (some not so good) but I didn't notice that most of the good reviews were from years ago. Contacting and scheduling was easy. Because it was the first visit, they mandate a full initial clean (up to 6 hours of labor). Due to scheduling conflicts they only had 4.5 hours available for the week I needed. Fine by me since the house is less than 1800 sq ft. I walked into our "cleaned" house after a day of work thinking I would be coming home to that "clean" house smell. Nope. Didn't smell any different. Weird I thought. So I looked at the tile floors, it still had some milk spots from my toddler and some food residue near the dog bowl (see pics). So clearly just a vacuum job was done, no mopping (or maybe just a really sloppy mopping job). Strike 1. Then I began to notice that NONE of the counter tops in the kitchen/living room (see pics), bathrooms or bedrooms (basically anywhere) were dusted or cleaned! Not even the kitchen island or kitchen table were wiped down! Strike 2. Walked into the master bathroom to look at the shower and it looked the same. Same mildew spots, same soap scum. She didn't even empty the trash in the bathroom. No tidying was done, no beds were professionally remade. Strike 3. What she did do: Windexed the glass shower doors and the mirrors in the bathrooms, took out trash in kitchen, the other two bathrooms and laundry room, wiped down the inside of the sinks and toilets (not the surrounding areas), wiped appliances, cleaned inside the microwave and vacuumed the four rooms that have carpet (but her vacuum was so old - I saw it when i let her in - that it didn't pick up lint or my hair from the carpet). But hooray - at least something was cleaned over the course of 3 hours (from our alarm system I could tell when she left) - I was getting worried! Sadly, my house was not at the level of clean they claimed they would leave it. I called the Company to voice my concern. The options were 1) pay for the 3 hours it took the cleaning staff to basically vacuum my house and wipe down some mirrors and appliances (which at a rate of almost $40 an hour, is not cheap and I would never have contracted with someone to do just that) or 2) they could come back to finish the job but I would have to pay $165 (based on the Sq Ft of our house). WHAT?? No thank you! You're supposed to do an amazing first cleaning and then start slowly slacking off, not slack off the first time around! In summary - horrible experience with the cleaning and such a waste of time when we were in a time crunch. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time and money with this company until they clean up their own problems. read more

Unfortunately I cannot give them a good review as though I first received good service via good communication 2 weeks prior of them establishing a schedule, service and pricing for both move in cleaning ( i just closed on the house) and then every other week cleaning along with weekly pool service they cancelled the first session 1.5 hours from the scheduled time which was at 1:30pm. The only option was for them to try to reschedule later the following week. With furniture being delivered the next day, plus I already departed work to meet them at my house this put me in a bind and not only did I not receive an apology when I cancelled their service BUT they only thing they could ask is if I still wanted the pool service.....
