BBQ Pork Banh Mi...
Joah K.

I tried House of Pho for the first time last weekend. Inside was spacious, and the service was great. I ordered the special pho (#19), which comes with thinly sliced rare steak, brisket, tendon, tripe, cilantro, and onions. I also got the BBQ pork banh mi. The pho was pretty solid. However, I was disappointed with the banh mi. It looked quite different from the menu photo, which, of course, I understand that menu items are created to look their best and don't always come out the same, but this sandwich ended up looking more like a carrot sandwich, and I'm not a fan of carrots. There was only a thin slice of BBQ pork, and the bread was too doughy. The proportions felt off overall, and it was honestly my least favorite banh mi I've tried. I took a bite and ended up giving the rest to a friend who took it home. If I'm in the area, I'd come back for the pho.

As far as pho is concerned, I've had worse but I've also had much better. They're just good. Not great. Not horrible. Just good. Spring rolls just as yummy as anywhere else. The Thai Iced Coffee is VERY heavy in coffee flavor. The service was sweet. The atmosphere was great to catch up with some friends. There is a lot for parking.

It's been a long times since my last review so I thought it would give a little update. We have probably been here... oh, I don't know, several dozen times in the last 12 years. Still the same cute restaurant with plenty of tabes. Still the same great service - food always served in a timely manner and always hot. Most importantly, food is still delicious. We have found many new favorites during the past 12 years... mine is the Tiger Cry. Order it, you will fall in love like it did. I am sure we will continue to make this our go to Pho restaurant for many more years.

I can't remember when I've enjoyed such healthy, flavorful, clean tasting pho broth. May I say yesterday morning I woke up feeling extremely tired and unwell. September through November is my allergy season and a kind woman at my local coffee shop suggested I have chicken broth so I chose this restaurant based on the high ratings. This particular pho restaurant serves some of the best and most generously portioned pho I've ever tried in my many years here in the Chicagoland area. My mother's best friend was from Burma so trust me when I say this is extremely tasty pho. As a child I dined at many Asian restaurants and attended many parties where pho was served as a main course so I know what I'm talking about. They have wonderful combination platters here so you can upgrade any large bowl of the pho of your choice with a thai iced tea beverage and two yummy pieces of fried crab Rangoon for just 6ish dollars and or come here for a lunchtime deal or Bahn mi sandwich combination. I enjoyed the extremely flavorful broth and my server brought me a chilli paste when I requested extra spicy broth so I could temper the spicy level to my liking. The service here was quick, polite attentive and I never had to wait too long for food or beverages to come to my table. Atmosphere here is casual and low key vibes not fancy. Food here at least my pho was outstanding. If you want an authentic pho meal with traditional broth, homemade noodles and the very best cuts of meats then I encourage you to come here!

First time here, and first impression was that the place was clean and well maintained. As a native Vietnamese speaker I immediately noticed that the staff did not speak Vietnamese, but rather Chinese. I was looking forward to trying their Bun Rieu, our waiter apologized and stated they were all out since a large party of 14 came in earlier and ordered all the Bun Rieu. So I ended up ordering the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, my husband ordered the large Pho Tai, and we also got crab rangoons, salt and pepper tofu, and chicken satay. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food tasted pretty authentic. The nuoc mam could use a little more lime juice though. But portions was were a good size, and I look forward to trying their Bun Rieu next time.

Premium Pho was great value and tasty!

The premium pho was worth it for the value and was tasty. They know how to make pho! Other places have charged more with less noodles and meat in their pho and watered down, not here! Service was fantastic and very attentive to your needs! A lot of tradition Vietnamese dishes that will open your taste buds! Their dishes pack value, taste, and variety! The room has enough space for your whole family and relatives to eat together. I am bringing my family and relatives here often!

Thai iced tea was sooooo good!!! Reasonable pricing to their menu items and lots to choose from. The ambience is really nice too. The people working there are very welcoming and nice enough to answer our questions on what specific things are called! I would come again.

Spring roll appetizer
Paul S.

Tasty Vietnamese and pan-Asian cuisine. The pho broth is flavorful and the accompaniments are fresh and quality, the meat is tender and noodles are toothsome. Highly recommend the rice platters like the Premium Rice Plate, the banh mi is heavenly. Don't forget some of the appetizers like a spring roll.

They're serving up a mix of Indonesian and Chinese flavors, and some really unique menu items We started with their Rainbow Imperial Xiao Long Bao, and this is definitely one of the most intresting things on the menu. Each color is completely different flavor, with everything from traditional Shanghai to, beef stew , truffle, spicy Szechuan, chicken curry, lemon, and orange chicken. So every dumpling gives you a completely different tasting experience. We also tried their Nasi Goreng, which is Indonesian fried rice with chicken and egg. This was savory, really flavorful, and It paired perfect with their spicy teriyaki chicken which i couldn't stop eating. But My favorite combo might have been their watermelon boba with mini chicken dumplings served right on top, this would be the perfect to go option in my opinion. And if you need something sweet, their new seasonal menu items are a must, like pumpkin and apple Halloween drink Or these little Ghost Baos, which has an apple and cinnamon filling. I honestly felt bad eating these little guys. The perfect fall combo if you ask me. Overall, Phat Phat has a great variety of Indonesian and Chinese dishes. Service was great, they were very attending to us and the inside very well lit and is perfect for your next date night! Number one on that list would be nasi goreng, also known as Indonesian fried rice. If you're into spicy food, order it extra spicy and you will not be disappointed. Same goes with the mie goreng (Indonesian fried noodles). Both are flavor-blasted comfort food. The other dishes I've had there have also been solid but a go-to is always the crispy eggplant appetizer. It's a large place so plenty of seating. They do get pretty busy on weekends but I've never had trouble getting a table. Cool vibes, good food, what more do you need! You can see from my photos that I came here with friends once and we ordered a table completely full of nasi goreng and mie goreng. XD

Every entree comes with a side choice--the Tom Yum soup and chicken potstickers were both solid options. Papaya Salad: Outstanding--super refreshing with a great crunch. Pad Thai & Pad See Ew: Disappointing protein quality. The chicken in the Pad Thai was dry, and the beef in the Pad See Ew was sliced paper-thin and equally dry. Basil Duck: Surprisingly bland and lacked flavor.
