The station was originally opened in 1909 as Hounslow Town, to replace a terminus station of the same name situated further south, although the line itself had been opened in 1884 to Hounslow West. The station was renamed Hounslow East in 1925. The original 1909 buildings were cramped, with a small ticket office on the north side and long staircases to the platforms, and provided particularly poor access to the westbound side. In 2001 construction started on a new station on the south side, with a spacious ticket hall and lifts as well as wide new staircases to both platforms. The eastbound platform has a canopy along most of its length. A key feature is the extensive use of glass walls and the pale green sloping roof above the ticket hall. The station was completed in 2005 and its reconstruction won the HSBC Rail Business Awards 'Station Excellence of the Year' Award. Used by nearly 4 million passengers a year, the station is served by buses 111 (Heathrow Airport Kingston) and H28 (Bull's Bridge to Osterley Tesco). Additional bus services are available from Hounslow Bus station, 250m away (one stop on the 111 and H28 routes).

It has been revamped pretty recently so it's quite nice really as a station. It's a pretty small station but it's not overly crowded so it's the right size really. Hounslow East is the nearest station to the restaurants like Pizza Express and Nandos in Hounslow. It is also very close to Hounslow Bus Garage which is very convenient as there are several bus routes which come by here. The bus stop right outside serves the 111 and H28. Quite a nice tube station

Specifically we took the Elizabeth Line to get to Stratford Station. Had to wait about 15 minutes for our train to arrive. It is helpful that there is a monitor showing folks when the next train is scheduled to arrive for whichever train line they are waiting for. It was less expensive to travel to our hotel this way as compared to using a taxi , bus, or other means of transportation. It was smooth trip that took about 30 minutes. Faster than the other modes of transportation. The Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 Underground station is convenient to use and easy to navigate even for tourists like us. The signs give good direction and instructions. If you have questions, there are attendants all over the station to help. Just ask.

The first station in Richmond was built in 1846, not on the same site as the present building which…read moreopened its doors in 1937. Richmond station serves as a terminus for zone 4 district line services and also as a stop for many national rail services out of Waterloo and into Surrey. You can get to Hammersmith on the district line in around 15 minutes, or into Waterloo in around 16 mins on the main line fast service, of which there are around 2 per hour. This makes Richmond very commutable. The final piece of the puzzle serving North London is the Silverlink service, which, if you can brave the crack addicts can get you all the way to Hampsted in around 40 mins. It feels like the slowest train in the world right now, although TfL are taking over management so perhaps it will improve. There are 7 platforms, 1+2 for main line services, 3+4 for Silverlink, and 5-7 for district line. I would advise skipping the ticket office and machines in the entrance hall and going to the ones on platform level which are much less busy. There is a front entrance onto Richmond High Street, and a handy back entrance onto Church Road which is much more pleasant, but floods everytime it rains. It was recently voted South West Trains 'Station of the Year 2007' in mysterious circumstances. If you're hungry, I would advise popping into Source next door and getting a take out, which you can scoff on the way into London...

Transport for London have just renamed the sliverlink service 'London Overground' and there is new trains on the way in 2008 or 2009. I personally find it to be slow but quite good for getting to Camden, King's Cross etc without going into Zone 1. There is a new Marks and Spencer where the Door shop used to be by the ticket barriers in the entrance hall. I still think Phil is right about going to Source though instead though!
