I have mixed feelings about this place. Below are pros and cons: Pros: -Taco Deli tacos (can't beat it) -Great coffee -Atmosphere is nice and simple -Great location -Friendly staff Cons (and they are big cons): -They have MAYBE 5 electrical outlets. That means that 85% of the seating does not contain any charge source. That is the opposite of good. -Music makes or breaks a coffee shop. If you want to step into a Halloween techno party, this is your spot. Have not heard much worse when it comes to the playlists there. -Seating is uncomfortable Finishing thoughts - Don't go work up there. Good to grab a coffee, chill for a bit, then roll out. read more

The espresso is on point, ask for a recommendation and they will hook you up. Everyone who works there is genuinely friendly. I also love their mugs and the overall aesthetic - cool light fixtures and a minimalist feel. Oh yeah, the cold brew. You have to get a cold brew here on a hot day, which is like everyday. Sounds like you're coming here everyday, or at least I would if I lived in the area. I may or may not also own a mug from Houndstooth... read more

Good coffee but not my vibe for atmosphere..seating is uncomfortable!!! Helpful staff, but that they don't aeem to notice that seating would make a big difference here... Maybe come by and grab a cup to go? read more

I went here a few days while I was in town to work. There was always a place to sit for awhile to do some computer work. I got an espresso shot both times I went there. They had two different coffee blends so the barista recommended what they thought I would like. Everyone that worked there was very friendly! read more

The coffee is pretty good, but it's the staff that keep me coming back. They're always so kind and caring. This place has a decent amount of seating and usually isn't too crowded on week days. read more

I am not a HUGE coffee person. I like my coffee - freshly grounded at home and made by aeropress - pretty simple. I usually finish an americano or one cup of coffee, and I'm good. But at Houndstooth, after my first americano I was sorely tempted to grab another. (My student sized wallet and low tolerance for caffeine kept me from it in the end.) So - coffee? amazing! There was something specifically special about the atmosphere. The setting and spacing of the furniture invites people to sit together! I often walk into coffee shops and am so sad to see how all the tables are taken up (especially by one person), but at Houndstooth - it is obviously perfectly acceptable to sit next to a stranger. I hope that this sharing atmosphere lasts. Service wise.... I know many people say that certain coffee shops have great baristas, but I usually don't really sense that. Here? They really do. My barista talked to me right away, made conversation that was genuine and really cared about the quality of my coffee (he didn't like something he did with the espresso so he did it again). He made me feel comfortable, like I wasn't an outside and that I had a right to be at Houndstooth. read more

Went for a cup of coffee after having brunch with my husband. The place is very trendy, the barista's there are very stylish, knowledgeable about coffee and friendly. Very teeny tiny problem I had was finding a nice comfortable seat. There was enough people in there that made it difficult to find a space for two people, but I guess that's a good problem to have. As far as the coffee, I loved their cut espresso cups and the taste of the coffee was delicious, strong how I like it! Will be back soon :) read more

This was on my list of places to go while I was in Dallas, and it was a mistake to go. The gentleman with the receding hairline and glasses was rude from start to finish. Could he not tell that we weren't from there? I didn't know they worked in an assembly line. I thought there were two different lines to order. At the same time, I also wanted to take a peek at the pastries they had so I could be prepared to order, rather than stand there with my "ummmms" and hold up the line behind me. The man said, "Can you just get in line this way instead of blocking the way there?" Okay, first, phrase your question in a nicer way. Second, as I said, I thought there were two lines AND I wasn't even blocking anyone's way. *eye roll* He had an attitude while taking our order that I didn't even want to give my order. The woman making the drinks and the second guy taking orders for food were nice and PATIENT. Suggestion: have a sign to show where the line begins. And teach the staff how to provide proper and awesome customer service. Usually when I go to coffee shops, I order my iced drinks with light ice because they tend to pile up the ice in your cup and leave you with only half the drink (okay, maybe less than 3/4 of the drink). It also waters down the drink which I don't like. And usuualllllyyyy, the coffee shop adds extra of the drink to make up for the less ice that I asked for. Well, not this place. I just wanted to pay, get my drinks, and get out of there as quickly as I could. read more

Cute coffee shop with surprisingly a lot of parking spots. There are plenty of tables scattered throughout with only wooden stools available. This place may be a fun atmosphere for meeting up with friends but it's not so great for studying. It is quite uncomfortable to sit on a stool with no back support. My other gripe is $5.50 for a watered down 12 oz vanilla latte? Me thinks not. read more

The place itself is great but the coffee is way overpriced! I couldn't believe my eyes! I paid over $8 for an almond latte including tip. That's just criminal. I have drank coffee all over the world and that price just isn't justified. read more

So this sort of feels like a hidden gem, due to the location and feeling of the environment out side. The place sort of looked like a mini restaurant from Austin. It had a chill/lowkey/urban vibe to the place. It is hard to even describe what the feeling was walking in because of how the tables and setting of the place was set. It isn't a bad feeling but more of "who thought of this layout and why?" Once settled into the tall chair small table area, the environment was a bit pleasant but awkward. They were playing from rock to soft rock to like somewhat metal music. So for those who would be studying would feel a bit meh. The coffee we got was chocolate latte and I must say the latte was the richest chocolate latte I have let my tongue experience. The even provided a heart design if you are into those stuff and they gave it with a expression of "we care for your coffee" because he poured the coffee and blended and mixed in a subtle style that makes you wanna buy it once more to see him batch a new coffee again. Or it could have been just that Bartista that day. read more

Great little hipster spot. The staff is great and so is the coffee, but I must be honest... I'm here for the tacos. Every morning they have taco deli tacos for sell until they sell out. Don't wait around and think about it... just go! Thanks houndstooth! read more

One of my regular stops since moving to Dallas Houndstooth has most of the elements you want from a great day to day coffee shop: - Convenient Location? - Delicious, interesting, self roasted coffee? - Friendly and knowledgeable staff? - Decent food options? (Taco deli and a small selection of pastries. Overall it's excellent. There's are some downsides: - Almost none of the seats have backs, making this a quick stop up to an hour or so, but not much more. - A single available outlet, meaning if your laptop is out of juice you're screwed. Even these downsides are understandable and acceptable. Houndstooth is a great way to start the day. read more

I've been looking for my hipster coffee fix (well really iced dirty chai fix) and Houndstooth did not disappoint! They have masala chai and turmeric chai, which is a huge plus in my book since many places have a spiced chai that tastes more like a bad PSL (and I also despise PSLs). Not here! They also had these really good powder donuts and the sugar didn't get all over me! All wins in my book. I came here to work for a few hours and they had a lot of seating and the music was pretty good. I saw one outlet in a corner but couldn't see any others, so beware. If you have a dog, this place is also dog friendly. I will definitely be back. read more

I got myself an iced tea and they recommended a berry hibiscus (taste just like Starbucks very berry hibiscus) and it was amazingly good and cheaper than the SB drink (like $2.50) I went in to do some homework and realized that the wifi was locked and I wasn't sure if it was free or paid for but I just used my iPhone hotspot (luckily) The guys were so nice and the area was really clean! It was getting a little busy and some people were taking up an entire table making it hard for others to seat. Other than that I loved it. New spot for me! read more

If you're looking for a serious study spot, look elsewhere. I came here last week to crank out some work and was surprised that working at a coffeeshop could actually make my work harder rather than easier. The place is outfitted in wooden tables and backless stools which doesn't bode well for long study sessions! Plus, it was super cold. I was only able to stay for a little over an hour due to all of this. However, for some chill editing / answering emails, this place is perfect and super trendy!! I'd give it a try if this is on your to-do list. read more

Houndstooth is always great -- amazing coffee and great spaces for working. This location in particular is nice due to the outdoor patio out front and to the side of the store, which I really appreciate. In terms of coffee, I definitely prefer the other Dallas location to this one. I ordered a cortado and took the barista's recommendation for which espresso roast to choose, and it lacked a lot of the depth of flavor I like in espresso drinks. Maybe next time, I will try the other espresso option. Also, keep in mind Houndstooth drinks are expensive. $5.10 for a cortado is a lot. It was a bit confusing that you don't order at the register, and I found that it didn't even matter that I ordered with the barista, because I still had to tell the worker at the register my order. I'm sure they do this for efficiency to get your drink out faster but in my opinion it seems futile. This Houndstooth definitely gets packed on the weekends so expect tight parking and long lines if you come during a busy hour. Other than those minor annoyances, Houndstooth continues to be one of my favorite coffee shops, but I recommend trying the Sylvan location over this one. read more

The Good: The staff is friendly. The coffee is excellent. The restrooms are clean. There is free chilled water. There is plenty of space that is utilized by people both studying and socializing. There is free parking (at least during the weekday). The wifi was fast. The music is good and not too loud. I like it as much as the original Houndstooth in Austin. The Bad: The only think I would change would be the prices. $4.80 for a large pour over ice coffee or a small cortado seems like a lot. Also, the stools/chairs do not have backs which can get old if you plan on being there for a while. read more

Cute little spot. Awesome coffee and excellent customer service. I asked for an extra cup to split a teapot with my sister and they warmed up the cup for me.. didn't know it was an option and it helped! Only (very small) criticism I have is that most the seating are barstools. Kinda uncomfortable after a while. But other than that, highly recommended! read more

The guys working this morning could not have been more personable. Instead of a menu they spoke with me regarding the type of experience and flavor I was wanting from my coffee and continued to engage in meaningful conversation during the remainder of the process as well. We wanted to like this place but the vibes just are not great. A rude, unwelcoming woman behind the espresso bar snapped at my husband for standing at the platform where the drinks are delivered. He was trying to be considerate and helpful but it was clear the barista had no intention of giving him the benefit of the doubt, he had no idea people were not allowed to stand there, as she had just been chatting with a friend or regular customer who had been standing in the same place. After that person walked away, my husband went and stood there and the barista immediately barked "get off there, you can't be there." Absolutely no sense of courtesy or respect. Don't bother coming here, Dallas has much better, friendlier coffeehouses. Any other local one will do. read more

I'm a student at The University of Texas at Austin so I frequently study at the two Houndstooth locations in Austin -- N. Lamar and Congress. This store in Dallas, however, is hands down my favorite. Why? The #1 reason is the ample amount of space both in terms of parking and indoor/outdoor seating. The parking lot is adjacent to Houndstooth and it has a plethora of parking spots. It's so nice and convenient not having to find street parking, like I normally have to do in ATX. Again, the amount of seating available inside the store is just amazing. There's also a cute "patio" outside (with shade). Although Houndstooth is notorious for $$$ coffee, I think it's definitely worth it. I normally get either an iced coffee (with no sugar or cream) or an iced vanilla latte. The iced coffee is so smooth and is not overwhelmingly strong, which I love. If you're looking for a coffee shop in Dallas, I HIGHLY recommend Houndstooth! read more

Most of the time when I get coffee out I want to waddle around with it, not sit and hang out with the coffee at the shop. Given that, the sparse uncomfortable furnishings at Houndstooth don't bother me at all. Nor does the lack of outlets. They clearly want people to find the space uncomfortable at GTFO, period. That's fine, because I want my coffee to go anyway! At almost $5 for a 12oz iced latte, I wish they'd offer some sugar alternative. Don't care what it is - just something other than sugar on the raw. They have whole milk and half and half, so ante up some fake sweetener already. The coffee is itself tasty, but from walking in the front door to leaving takes about 15 minutes when there are only 3 other customers in there. Definitely not fast. Definitely better than Oak Lawn coffee in my flavor book, and close enough in price that I'd go to Houndstooth over them if I were half way between the two. Of course, if any other coffee spot were closer, I wouldn't fret over missing out on the Houndstooth experience. read more

Houndstooth Coffee - Cold brew with Vanilla syrup. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Houndstooth is definitely one of the better coffee shops in DFW. Aesthetically, Houndstooth is very pleasing. Every detail here is so carefully thought out ranging from their cups to the decor to the lighting. There is plenty of space for people to spread out inside or outside. The baristas are all genuinely sweet and knowledgable. They offer various espressos and the barista I had very sweetly guided me to something she thought I would like. The coffee itself is very good in comparison to any I have had in DFW. I would recommend a vanilla latte if you're into sweeter, milky coffee and the Japanese iced coffee if you prefer your coffee black. I will definitely be back for more in the near future and would highly recommend coffee lovers gives this place a shot. You won't be disappointed! read more

I just wasted $5.50 on cup of water they sell as a latte. To be fair, I do like the atmosphere and the hipster vibe they are trying to set, the place is nicely done, it's modern, hip and cool. They always have an amazing selection of coffee and their interior is always so minimalist and classic. I love all the gifts they offer and I love all their coffees, of course! They are always busy at whatever time we go; people working, hanging out or just grabbing some coffee! That doesn't ever make the bartista any less friendly! One of the worst tasting coffees I have had, and yes I came back multiple times to confirm. Im no coffee snob, but I know when a cup of coffee tastes sour and old. My only guess is that the ambience is supposed to reinforce the "wakefulness" of a caffeinated beverage, because relaxation and leaning back is not possible in their industrial stools. Ordering is meant to belittle those who don't already know their famous menu. When asked why the menu was not on a wall anywhere I was told this was meant to enhance the customer experience. I would love to see the market research done on this. Forcing me to wait until I get to the register to decide what I want seems inefficient to say the least. Maybe Starbucks could get away with this because they're well known, but why would they even want to. Conceptually the place seems kinda cool. But ultimately it just doesn't deliver on the experience and the price point. Despite all this, those working there were incredibly nice. I just wish their coffee experience focused more on the customer and less on trying to appear current and hipster. read more

When I first walked into the former Pearl Cup I was disappointed. I fell like I was seeing an ex that hasn't aged well. Much of the warmth and charm was gone. Walls bare, sterile tables and chairs. But standing in line and listening to the warm and charming banter of the the baristas turned the tide. Exceptional at small talk, it was so interesting listening to the coffee nerds try and answer them. "So, what are your weekend plans?" "Who me?? Ummm, there is a new podcast..." Whatever. Lol. And my cappuccino was as exceptional as the chatter. Strong and intense double shot well poured w the milk. Best wishes guys. read more

Stopped in to check it out. I can't believe I paid $4.65 for a cup of reserve coffee. And not a very good one at that.

Don't go to Houndstooth if you've traveled the world tasting the best coffees man has to offer and you're searching for something comparable. Don't go to Houndstooth if you need at least three power outlets to keep all of your devices charged and powered up. Don't go to Houndstooth if you're looking for hearty breakfast, especially if you're a late-riser and your day doesn't get rolling until after 10 AM. Don't go to Houndstooth if you prefer taking in your morning espresso while lounging in a comfy chair or couch. Why should you come here? Go to Houndstooth for what could very likely be the most sincere, kindest customer service you'll encounter that day. Go to Houndstooth for perfectly acceptable (and, IMO, really delicious) drinks that are fairly priced and expertly crafted. Go to Houndstooth for the Taco Deli tacos (just don't sleep in, otherwise you'll miss out). Go to Houndstooth to escape the often overcrowded and typically overplayed "hipster coffee joint."* *Contrary to what another reviewer said, I wouldn't describe HT as hipster nor is it located in the "hipster part of town." ----- Houndstooth is a wonderful place to get your daily dose of caffeine. Whether you're spending a couple of hours getting some work done or meeting friends/colleagues to escape the office, Houndstooth provides a great setting for both. I originally visited Houndstooth because it's a short 3-minute drive from my home. I kept coming back because the staff is extremely friendly and they all seem genuinely interested in giving their customers the best experience possible. I became so fond of HT that I eventually began spending 2 or 3 of my mornings working remotely from this location. TL;DR: I've had better coffee throughout my life, even in Dallas, but the care and high-level of service provided by the baristas at Houndstooth was such that I never wanted to go anywhere else. Highly recommended. read more

The 4 star rating of "Yay! I'm a fan" succinctly describes how I feel about this place. Had been wanting to try out Pearl Cup, but I don't live on this side of town and it's hard to drag hubster over to a coffee shop that is not convenient (le sigh). So when Houndstooth came up and took over the space, I was determined to try it. I got our chance about a week ago when we were out doing some shopping and it was quite the pleasurable experience. I love the colors and the accents - light wood in a, well, slightly houndstooth pattern (wonder where they thought that up...) with this tealy-almost-Tiffany's-esque blue, and lots of concrete and steel accents. It's a comfortable space without use of cushions, which I applaud them for doing. I have to say, the people here are NICE. Like nice to the point that I almost distrust them because they're being so nice to me. Or maybe that was the lack of coffee in me talking. Whatever, point being the cashier was nice and explained to us the different espresso roasts and which did we prefer, how did we hear about this place, yadda yadda. The lady who took our payment (it's where you order, shimmy down and pay at the other end kinda deal) was just gaily talking about dogs and striking up for-reals conversation, so I was smitten. It was the most engaging 5 minutes I'd ever spent at a coffee shop! I got the cortada, and hubs got their iced japanese tea-like coffee brew, which was quite good. THe only complaint is that they don't have simple syrup (I lament again: why is this not an option almost every where, particularly for people who like iced drinks?) My cortada was heaven - the crema on top was delightful and it was almost too pretty to drink with the pattern the barista put in. But drink it I did, and it was powerful enough to wake me up for about 5-6 more hours of my day. Only thing I would say is stealing that 5th star is that they had almost NO food when we came in around 4PM. I don't know what time they are open too, but I was surprised by the sheer lack of even a stale pastry or two. Maybe they tout the whole "Fresh all the time" mantra but it would have been nice to snack on something post cortada. We'll be back Houndstooth! read more

When Mudsmith is too crowded, make your way to Houndstooth Coffee! Came to the Greenville area on Saturday hoping to get some work done. It seems Mudsmith has been my typical go to for study and sipping tea/coffee but as expected, it was RIDICULOUSLY CROWDED. Per the recommendation of fellow yelper and bestie, Karen L., the work/study session got moved to this little place. VENUE: Located on Henderson near Beauty Bar, Barcadia, and Gin Mill. You will probably miss it if you're not looking for it. There's a tiny parking lot to the left side of the building - make sense because the venue itself is kind of small. WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. A totally different atmosphere than Mudsmith. The demographic appears to be much different too. At Mudsmith you get your typical crowd of college students, post grad students, and hipsters coming in and out. It's constantly busy on Saturday and there's always a hustle and bustle. Not at Houndstooth. Yes there are a few students sprinkled here and there - but the feel is just calmer. The music is the fun, catchy oldies Mudsmith typically tends to play, but rather the perfect ambiance to get you focused on your work. I didn't even feel the need to put my headphones in half the time. It's much brighter and airy compared to Mudsmith too if you prefer that to a dark intimate setting. FOOD/DRINK: I had a sip of their Conrad. I'm not a coffee aficionado but it was good to me. But I'm a tea drinker so I went with the Earl Grey. Very potent - and hot. Just the way you want it. They have a bar in the back with sugar and cream if needed. SERVICE: Everyone one I interacted with was friendly. I believe you're supposed to pick up your drinks from the counter but one of the baristos came and delivered my mug and tea pot. :) Very satisfied with the service. read more

If you need a side of pretentious with your coffee then you have found your place! It is hipster coffee with all the attitude you can handle. The guys with their plaid shirts, ties and suspenders will dazzle you with their barista skill set. First a guy will take your order to just tell the guy next to him (who can hear you btw) what your order is. Seems a bit inefficient. So I order a chai tea latte. He tells me it is spicy. Apparently the flavor of steamed milk is considered spicy here. Literally my chai tastes like milk. No chai flavor at all and they don't have any choices for any other kinds of tea. My friend got coffee and we had to go find sweetener somewhere else so he could drink the coffee. One tea, one coffee and 2 muffins was almost $15. I guess you are paying for hipster chic vs. good flavor. read more
