We had to be away for a full week and had to scramble to find boarding for our 18lb Russian Blue Kitty. We wanted something more than just chain-store pet hoteling and luckily, a friend (with very pampered doggies) recommended Kennel Nirvana for our cat, since they have a separate residence for the kitties. We made the appointment to view the space in the days prior, and were so pleased with the cleanliness and warmth of the kitty space. Our boy is a tree climber and the Kennel Nirvana cubbies did not disappoint. He had three levels to play around in, and ended up spending most in the top near the ceiling! He certainly didn't lose any weight while there either, though he got lots of exercise, so mealtimes are well managed, too. Natalie and Glenn were gracious about our calling in to check on our boy every couple days and we are so grateful for the exceptional care they took with him. Natalie and Glenn are wonderful caretakers and Kennel Nirvana is a treasure find! It's a beautiful place with lovely folks (the owners AND the daytime assistants) who obviously care deeply about the furry family members left in their care. I'm new to Tucson and needed boarding for my Golden Retriever while I took a two-day trip to California. After seeing good reviews for Dirty Dogs, I decided to give them a try. Unfortunately, the experience was full of red flags from the very beginning. Every time I called, my calls went unanswered. Instead, they would text me immediately saying everything had to be done online. I'm not great with online portals, so I asked if I could just come in and complete everything in person. I was told no. It all had to be done online. It wasn't until I texted that I was about to use another facility that someone finally called me. Since my dog had never been there before, she needed a temperament assessment. I wanted to bring her in a few days early so I could see the facility and make sure she was comfortable, but I would have been charged for that visit. They suggested I simply do the assessment on the morning of boarding, free of charge, so I trusted their recommendation. The morning of drop-off, I received a reminder text at 7:53 AM saying dogs had to be dropped off between 6:30 and 8. Since I was going to arrive around 8:15, I called immediately. I was told, "Well there are reminders (plural) that are sent and it's okay, but I would be charged a 15 dollar late fee because the dogs would already be kenneled. I decided not to argue about the ONE reminder since I would be leaving my dog alone with these people and didn't want anything to happen, I accepted responsibility and didn't argue. ******The real problem ****** happened when I arrived. I pulled up to the facility, walked around looking where to enter, an employee walked up, took my dog's leash out of my hand without introducing himself, didn't greet me, didn't greet my dog, and immediately started walking her inside. When I tried to follow, he blocked the entrance and told me I wasn't allowed in. That's the moment I knew I couldn't leave my dog there. As a dog owner, handing your pet over to strangers for the first time requires trust. I expected at least a friendly introduction, someone acknowledging my dog by name, explaining the process, or doing something to help me feel comfortable. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE WATCHING MY DOG?? ANY NORMAL human with half an heart sees a Golden Retriever and wants to pet and greet her!! These are supposed to be people who work with and love dogs???? Instead, the interaction felt rushed, cold, and unsettling. I made the decision right then to cancel my Labor Day trip. losing the trip was disappointing AND COSTLY, but I don't regret that decision for a second. When the owner called me afterward, she told me she had reviewed the security footage and that the employee had followed normal protocol. I listened to her explanation, but when I tried to explain why the experience concerned me, I felt interrupted and corrected rather than heard. To make matters worse, I was still charged 170 dollars! I knew I would be charged for booking, but figured she would work with me! All I got was "you can still drop her off between 4-6pm" (whatever the drop off time was). I want to be CLEAR: **** This review isn't about the money. It's about trust. ***** When you're asking someone to care for your dog, especially for the first time, trust is everything. Unfortunately, I never felt that trust was earned. One final piece of advice, pay close attention to the reviews. Many of the older positive reviews appear to be from before the current ownership and many focus on grooming rather than boarding. Maybe this place works well for some people, but based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend boarding your dog here. I have a 3 year old rescue poodle mix with a history of separation anxiety and inability to tolerate being crated. When I first got him 2 years ago he hurt himself pretty bad trying to get out of a crate. I explained this to Erin twice - when I went for the tour and 10 days later when I called to make the reservation. On the tour Erin showed me the standard "suite" which is a long hallway with animal shelter-type chain link kennel and the "deluxe" suite which is a single block wall room with walled outdoor run. I told Erin he would need a "deluxe" suite and lots of human and dog play time due to his separation anxiety disorder. This place does NOT require a meet and greet with your dog. I left my dog at 4:15 pm on Thursday 2/9 and again asked for as much dog and human play time as possible. I did not have to sign anything or leave a credit card. The next morning, Erin called me to let me know that Max had a little scrape on his nose and that they didn't want me to be surprised by the injury at pickup. I asked her what happened and she said there had been a big wind storm during the night and that the morning feeder person found him bloody - he had been trying to get out under the steel door. That's when I first realized THERE'S NO ONE THERE AT NIGHT. When I picked him he could hardly walk. The bridge of his nose was badly scraped. His chin, lips and gums were badly injured. His toe pads on his two front feet were shredded - he was limping from the pain. He looked like he had been beaten down. I asked Erin why she didn't tell me there's NO night staff and she said "You didn't ask." AYFKM?? There is NOTHING on their website indicating they have no one there overnight. For my dog this was no "vacation," not a "resort," and he was not treated like "family" despite what their website says. And the vet bill was twice what the boarding fee would have been - at least. And FWIW my daughter's lab won't be back - my daughter was also shocked to hear there's NO ONE THERE AT NIGHT!!!

Besides being very happy to see us, my pup was very thirsty when we got in the truck. Never saw him drink that much water in one sitting. I blame myself for not researching more.
