I hired Mike to install a gas line for a stove in my home... but only after receiving multiple bids from various other contractors. Parallax was not only the most competitive, they were the most courteous, the most prompt and thought "outside the box" to come up with a solution that was stumping other contractors. During and after the installation, Mike routinely performed above and beyond the scope for which I hired him. I highly recommend Mike and his operation.

Very prompt and courteous - Very professional attitude - When my Heater stopped working last Sunday, I called Mike first. He was not available right away (Sunday 8pm) so I had to call someone else (my wife and my kids put pressure) The guy came and stated that it was a big problem and that the furnace needed complete cleaning and parts. I was quoted $610. I was very skeptical so I called Mike the next morning. He came in right away and diagnosed that absolutely nothing was wrong with the furnace or the part. He tested all parts, reset the heater and the furnace worked again. Mike saved me over $600 or maybe more because my wife was talking about replacing the furnace altogether. I cannot thank Mike enough for his work that day, you know you can trust him because he will tell you the truth and explain what the problem is in a non-obscure way.

The owner gave my husband a couple of tips to fix it, but it never worked for more than 5 minutes at a time. We tried to get him to come out, but a family emergency pulled him to California for over a month. Understandable. We got someone else to come out and take a look, and they said that the pipe was wrong, but it was gonna cost $500 on top of the service fee to fix it. We finally got the owner of B&M to contact us again, after I left an angry voicemail, and a bad yelp review. He said he would come out on the Monday (of the snowstorm) to fix it. He showed up at 8/9 pm, saying that he had a "no heat" call in Lake Oswego. That did bug me, as we had been without consistent heat for 3 months, and with two small children and the snow, I felt like perhaps that should have been a priority. However, I get that he runs a business and wanted to put paying customers first. When he finally got to our house he took a look and said that there was something wrong with the "pressure switch". Turns out it is a safety switch. If the gases cannot exhaust correctly it shuts everything down. That is what would happen, the gas would kick on and immediately shut off. He blamed the switch and wanted me to give him another $120 for coming out. My husband told him no way in hell will we give him another dime and if you assess it is something else, We'd pay another company to do it. There is a draft tool that most HVAC people would use to make sure the draft out is correct, he did not even use one. In the end my husband took a hack saw to the pipe in the garage and turned on the heater and it worked. That told him there was something wrong with the run. Turns out the HVAC manual is very specific on the amount of 90 degree elbows that can be used and whether or not you use two or three inch pvc. Due to the length of the run, it appears 3 inch was required to resolve the exhaust issue and make the pressure switch happy.

I then contacted Billy and he was able to come out and do the changes I needed within 48 hours. Then I needed help relighting the lines to my various appliance (water heater, fireplace, etc.) I am disabled and his assistance was greatly appreciated. I have had multiple chest and lung surgeries due to an auto accident in 2016 which have left me with chronic pain and limited mobility While attempting to relight my water heater, it was clear I needed a new one. It was the original one which was installed in the attic space of my home almost 20 years ago. The tank was living on borrowed time. There was one big snag. The space to get up into the attic was less than 20 inches. The old water heater was about 22 to 24 inches in diameter. So it now sits in a corner of the attic. Most current models are between 20 and 24 inches in diameter. Billy was able to find another tank (we couldn't do tankless) which was 18 inches and could safely fit into the attic. However, it was in Tacoma. I live in Fairview OR. The trip was between 1.5 and 2 hours one way. He took the time to go to Tacoma and get the unit rather than ordering it and having it delivered, which would have meant another 1 to 2 days of taking cold showers. Literally! On the afternoon of the 20th, he arrived around 3 pm with the new unit. His fellow contractor, had already been at the home draining the tank, which took about an hour. The most time consuming part of installing a new water heater. He finished up around 5pm before he had to leave for an emergency water heater repair. Everything was wrapped up and ready to go. An hour later I had hot water again. Thank you for all your hard work and going above and beyond all expectations. I will be using Billy again to install a new AC unit in a few weeks. After my back patio (concrete) has been installed.

To be fair, the situation Mike was put in was a difficult one, which he should have ultimately walked away from. That would have been way more reasonable than what he did. There was a conflict in scheduling (Not Mike's fault) that had concrete pourers onsite before Mike arrived, and the spot he was supposed to place plumbing was already covered with concrete. When Mike discovered this, he simply had the concrete crew form out an opening for his plumbing work, but in the wrong spot altogether. While our directions for the plumbing were not exact, down to the inch, he instructed the concrete crew to put it on the opposite end of the pole barn. He did this without confirming with me. To cover the errant hole will cost $1,400. I originally offered to cover that cost if Mike would simply cover labor to cut out the concrete to lay the pipe. He declined that and ultimately said he refused to work on the project any further and would not take any accountability or work at all on a resolution. Terribly unprofessional and just gross. Stay away.
