A group of us came in for lunch at noon 5/8/2019. They were not busy( a table of 2 and a table of 1 when arrived) absolute slowest service I have ever experienced. The food was fine , not spectacular but good. Our groups 3-20 are normally at a restaurant no more than an hour at an hour 30 we were asking for our checks. The checks were all incorrect so we just switched them around until we got close. The waiter needs training soon. With the new mgt change we heard about we hoping for better. We will probably give them another chance. read more

Road trippin' to Phoenix for a baseball game and stumbled upon Hotrods Old Vail. Great classic car feel with an old garage, pinball machines, and stellar memorabilia. They have pool tables as well as Jenga on the outside patio. I ordered the Southwest Chicken sandwich and it had just the right amount of spice and it was cooked exceptionally well. My friend had the Grilled Veg Philly with a side of Mac and cheese and it was equally as good. The beer was served in an ice cold glass and it came out nice and slushed which is perfect for a mid-September day in Arizona. This was a truly disappointing experience, considering how frequently we come here. They seated us in tHe bar area, even though we were there for dinner. It took several minutes for someone to take our drink order. My wife's food arrived first, with no mention of mine. 7 minutes later, the waitress asked me about mine. Obviously, I had no I idea where it was. She finally brought my saladd as we waited for my sandwich. My sandwich finally came after a lengthy wait. I finally found out the burnt my sandwich. We both ate and emptied our glasses of water. The waitress asked if we wanted a refill, and we both said yes. Several minutes later she brought a pitcher of water, which we declined and asked for the check. She brought tHe check, removed my sandwich. The tip reflected the lack of service. Returning to Hot Rods will not be for a long time. read more

We stopped in here around 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon. We told the hostess we were just stopping in for a drink and she pointed out the bar to us as the 21 & older bar upstairs didn't open until 5pm. Off we go! We grab a table near the window so we can watch guys working on cars. We wait. We wait. We wait and after 15 minutes with nobody coming to take our drink order we decide to go to the bar. The "bartender" takes our order and we get our drinks pretty quiclkly. I had the "Toolbar" and it was good. We start looking around and notice that there are LOTS of staff just standing around BSing...hmmmm, yet we couldn't get waited on at our table. We decide to have another drink and the "bartender" asks if I want another "ToolBox" and I said no, I want to try something else. I said I'll have the "Sparkplug" and he said you should try this one instead. What? He points to this other drink and I told him I don't like Midori. He clearly looks disappointed and off he goes to make me a "Sparkplug". Now I am watching him make my drink. He takes the shotglass out of a glass of water and while filling up my glass with vodka, the water from the shot glass is streaming into my drink. Ewww. He makes my drink and I look at it and notice there isn't any cranberry in it like the description says and he says "Oh I know. I left it out - I think you'll like it better" So I taste it and it is sickenly sweet so I tell him "It has to have the cranberry so its not so sweet". So he reluctanly adds cranberry and it tastes much better. This guy is clearly not a bartender and the lone shotglass is plopped back into the glass of water. I wonder how often the water is changed, how many hands have been in this water and.....I decide to stop wondering because I'm getting grossed and hoping the alcohol is killing all the germs. Two people sit down next to us and the gal orders a glass of wine. The "bartender" serves her a glass of wine and the glass is so spotted that I actuallyl don't think it was washed between guests! I couldn't beleive any one would serve a glass that looked like that and was suprised the lady didn't ask for a different glass. The food being served on either side of us and at the tables nearby looked like your typical bar food - frozen, deep fried Famous Sam's type food. We did not order any food so we cannot comment on the taste - just what it looked like. The bulding and atmosphere is really fun and this place has a lot of potential to be a unique place to go; however, there is a lot of improvement needed in order for this place to succeed. read more

I've lived in Tucson for 5 years and seen their awesome looking building many times before I finally made it out here, and my goodness, I should have come a long time ago. The food was AMAZING, you will not regret coming. It's such a unique place, and beautiful. The cars they had when I was there were gorgeous, the bartender was so friendly and made the best recommendations. On the first visit, I have to give a five star. The ambiance is great. Very much a garage with great decorations, a car enthusiast dream. big windows give you a look at the work in progress with several cars at the garage. On service and food they excelled. we were promptly seated and got our drinks fast. All the plates going to adjacent tables looked great. We ordered a Bacon Cheese burger and a Philly Cheese stake. They both came very fast and the product was excellent. I read some reviews here about frozen or cold food. This was nothing like that. The burger buns are great looking and tasting and the Philly was huge and very flavor full. It looks like they close their kitchen early, we visited for lunch. we asked about weekends and we were advised that they have a weekend breakfast buffet. Looks like something to try. We definitely want to go back at night, the upstairs bar looks to have some great vistas. read more

First impression driving in the middle of nowhere - This place is Amazing! As we pulled in we were fortunate enough to visit during an event, so they had a number of Hot rods and Motorcycles to google over. As we walked in we were in awe at all the racing memorabilia and size of this place, remember this is in the middle of nowhere. An awesome bar and restaurant with plenty of seating and to make things even better, there's a second floor bar that is strictly for adults! This place has done it right with a number of flat screens and a comfy couch area to gather with friends and relax. Keep in mind we were told we had to wait 45 minutes or so for food because of the event, which we didn't mind because we figured we'd have a couple cocktails and enjoy the decor. We ordered the Sampler, Shrimp Poppers, Mac-n-Cheese and the Hotrod Beef. Now this is where they drop the ball. With the exception of the Hotrod Beef, which was the only thing I'd ever order again, everything else tasted as if it was fresh from the freezer. The Mac-n-Cheese we had to add salt and pepper in order to taste anything, so this is why the 3 star rating. I'd really recommend upping the quality of food because this place could easily be a 5 star. I was so excited at first sight I was literally planning my next visit, but because of the food I wouldn't recommend rushing to and won't be revisiting anytime soon :( read more

This is now the third? Remake of this restaurant. Prices are high for what you get ($75.00 +tip For three burgers and open face sandwich) Food flavor is now average but service has improved. Hotrods has a magnificent open space site that beckons you to come visit. I don't know what they have planned for all that empty acreage but I bet it has something to do with racing. This is truly a unique concept. I wonder how a bakery restaurant would do? hmm. I read my fellow Yelpers' reviews so I was cautiously optimistic but I came away very pleasantly surprised. First off, if you love cars you must come eat here at least once. It's worth it to watch the guys fix and restore old cars and racers. Lots of racing memorabilia to enjoy as well. Anyway, with all the TVs showing sporting events and the restoration work you can watch through the spacious windows, you won't be bored. Our wait period wasn't long for ordering and receiving our food. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered their garden burger with fries and I have to say it was very, very good. One of the best I've had in town, for sure. It cost $10 which I think is a bit high. I'd say this place is a tad more expensive that others that serve the same kind of food. All in all it was an entertaining dining experience that I would highly recommend. read more

I reviewed this place a few years back, and wasn't impressed. The other night, wife and I returned due to an advertisement stating new chef and new mindset. What a change, when we arrived, the door was opened for us and we were greeted warmly. Waitress attended to us and kept our drinks full. The menu is undergoing some changes but we enjoyed the Mac and Cheese Burger immensely. Everything else tastes so much better than our last visit. Give this place another try, the current rankings on Yelp are not indicative of the new HOTRODS. read more

Decided to give this place a shot despite all the bad reviews. Our experience wasn't all that bad surprisingly enough. We were told the wait was going to be an hour and a half which we expected. My husband and I went to the bar upstairs to have a couple of drinks while we waited. The wait was only 35 minutes. Our waitress was good. She was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of. Our appetizer was almost cold. My husband had the chicken Alfredo which was not flavorful and was warm at best. I had the spaghetti with sausage which I thought was good and was hot. I like that I could have wine with my dinner also. I'm glad they have a wine list for you wine lovers. I say give this place a chance, but expect a wait. While you're waiting have a drink and enjoy the company of the person or people you're with, have a good time and enjoy the experience. Shout out to Yvonne and Milton!!! read more

I had a great time and the food was more than decent. I had the open faced Turkey sandwich. The all white turkey was cooked to perfection, the gravy fantastic and the Yukon gold potatoes were out of this world and I even ate my vegetables that were on the side. My boyfriend had the Chili Burger and loved it. It was bike night and we had his son but the bikers stayed in the bar and loft area and we sat in the main dining room, where the garage floor was visible in order to see the cars they were currently working on. Speaking of that each table has a flip style information sheet to tell you about the cars. We played guess what car it is before we found the information and it was fun to learn about the cars while we waited for our dinner. The place was packed but the service was still good and our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. For three of us to eat however it was about $40.00 and we drank ice tea. I would rather spend $40 on a place with a little more ambiance and quieter but the boys in the family loved it and we got to watch the football game too. All in all it was a great experience and I would highly recommend trying it for the experience and some pretty good food. read more

It has been several years since I have been to Hotrods. Mainly because it was not very good. So, my wife and I decided to give them another try based on the latest reviews. We went for lunch and decided to have appetizers. We ordered 12 boneless wings and a half order of the Hemi fries. We ordered 6 wings Sonoran style and 6 buffalo. Well, the wings are vary large and very tasty. They were fork tender and not your little one bite wings. These are large 4-5 bite wings. We couldn't decide which flavor we liked better. It was all we could do to finish them. The Hemi fries are most unique, not really fries like you would expect. They were more like little potato boats covered in cheese, bacon,onions, and chili. Needless to say, we could not finish them even though it was a half order. The cheese sauce is a bit much in my opinion. We will be going back soon. And the wing places in Rita Ranch better be on the lookout. There is a great wing place in town. Love their wings. Our server was excellent, she was always on top of everything. read more

This place is neat. It has a pretty good atmosphere and the quesadillas are pretty good. This is my first time but I'm sure it won't be my last. It's not packed and you more than likely will get a seat at the bar which is not a bad thing. There are enough people there to have good conversations if you wish. The bartenders were attentive and I never went without a drink. Haily was very fun and really took care of me while I was there. So you should take the time to go off the beaten path and find Hot Rods. You will enjoy it unless you like boring, stuffy, rude, and entitled people to hang out with. That's what Scottsdale is for! What an improvement. The service and food have really improved since our last visit last year. I will be returning with the family here again for sure.The Mac and cheese burger is amazing. Food was delayed for everyone in the restaurant. Over 30 min wait. Service remained friendly just slow on delivering the meals. Once again, going in reverse. Food came out wrong after waiting forever. New menu mediocre. I think Chef Gordon Ramsey needs to visit here. Hate saying this as it's a really neat atmosphere and friendly staff. We've gone to Hot Rods many times. We have had great service each time and the food has been pretty good. I was happy to see that they have gluten free buns for their burgers. The buns were soft and tasty, I wouldn't have known it was GF. Our first trip, I ordered the chimichanga. It was good but something was lacking. I should have just gotten a burger at the burger restaurant. The next time, I did go with a bacon cheese burger and it was really good- well seasoned and cooked as ordered. I've also had the buffalo & garlic Parmesan wings, Cobb salad, potato salad, house salad, nachos, chicken wrap, a calzone,and the gf pizza. All very yummy dishes. Good beer selection as well. We love checking out the cars through the windows and "driving" the M&M golf cart. read more

This place is poorly managed. We waited more than 30 minutes for our drink order and after another 30, had to leave because our order hadn't even been taken. We had several kids with us who were hungry and very cranky. The staff was aloof and not very attentive at all. No apologies or explanations. We kept complaining and they told us there was a retirement party going on upstairs, sorry, not my problem. The food was mediocre at best. Our order was wrong. Yum! Came late on the way to the airport (benson) and got seated right next to the Restoration window. Server Sara was awesome! Menu was huge and all car named. Tons of choices pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and appetizers. Tomatoe basil soup was homemade and delicious! Fried chicken avocado salad is yum and huge. Club sandwich is perfect. Their sweet potatoe puffs are great. Only disappointment was they didn't have good variety of sizes of shirts in gift shop- I wanted one for hubby and myself. Highly recommend. The service is horrible! You can be the only one in the whole place and it still takes 20 minutes to get your drink, don't even expect to get a refill. I blame mgmt, down, cuz they can't keep great staff; instead, promote worst staff who have no clue. Managers "showboat" and never really serve. TVs for sports? Great if you can hear them. Well I'll get down to it, the food is bland and there is nothing special about the menu. Granted it's and American based selection but the burger I chose had absolutely no flavor at all. I also tried the sample platter and although all the items were fried they tasted better than my entree. I would like to say that the lemonade was delicious and the overall design and theme of the facility were intriguing. Sadly I would not recommend eating here based on the over priced menu and the boring flavorless food. read more
