Hotpot 88 was such a fun date night experience! For around $40 per person, you get an all-you-can-eat buffet-style hot pot experience where you pick your own broth and have your own little pot right at the table. Then you can load up on meats, veggies, and appetizers to cook however you want. The standout appetizer for me was the grilled salmon. The selection of meats and vegetables was also really good, and the lamb was incredibly tender. There was plenty to choose from, so it was fun trying a little bit of everything. A couple pro tips I wish I knew before going: There's a separate area with broth seasonings and enhancers where you can customize your broth even more. Definitely check that out because it took the broth to another level. There's also a little burner at your table where you control the temperature of your broth. You're supposed to turn it down when you step away from the table, which helps keep your broth from cooking down too quickly. One other thing to know: you get one pot of broth, so choose your flavor wisely! The inside was clean, the food selection was great, and while it's definitely a little pricey, we had a really fun experience. Our waiter was very patient explaining the whole thing to us and answering questions. He also gave us several recommendations to start with. He checked on us several times throughout the experience and also refilling drinks. Place was very busy as it was a Friday night but was still a calm atmosphere and other patrons were polite. A few friends and I went here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised! The food was incredible. The variety, the soups, the sauces, even gluten free soy sauce/noodles was all 10/10. The place was clean and well stocked. There was a variety of different seating, and we were able to be sat fairly quickly. I tried the bone broth soup with a variety of veggies, chicken, and beef. The broth was perfectly paired with all my food, and didn't take away from the flavors. The only reason this restaurant isn't getting 5 stars was the service. Our server was attentive at the beginning and then once we got our soup base, basically ignored us. We had to flag him down several times. He mentioned he didn't want to interrupt our conversation, which was kind, but it got frustrating when it happened multiple times. I absolutely love the flavor of the spicy Szechuan broth I got (in mild which was plenty). I will definitely get this again next time! Unfortunately, our service this time around was not good. Our server seemed to ignore us unless (and even sometimes while) we called out with request. This is an unlimited place where you order more as you go, so it's not uncommon to have the number of request we did, which was just getting a few more proteins here there for our broth. Nothing out of the ordinary. I didn't get the appetizer I ordered, and it took us quite a while to get his attention to order and then receive some of the items we wanted. My first experience with hotpot and now I'm sad I waited so long to try it! My husband and I came here for Saturday lunch recently with another couple friends. It was busy, but there wasn't a wait to be seated. Our waitress quickly explained how it all works - non-alcoholic drinks, appetizers, broths, veggies, meats, and dessert were all included in the price. Of note, there is a 90 minute restriction as it is essentially an all you can eat. Instead of communal broth, everyone gets their own hotpot! This was crucial as I was the only vegetarian in our group of four and I wanted to partake, but didn't want anyone else to have to go vegetarian if they did not want. I got the miso broth and ordered the vegetable spring rolls and steamed dumplings as my appetizers. Once the food was ordered, we made our way over to the buffet to choose our veggies, tofu, noodles, toppings, sauces, etc. It all seemed to be clean and well maintained, which I was happy to see. Our broths were ready by the time we made it back to our table and we started feasting! Both the spring rolls and dumplings were very good and a great way to wait for the broth to cook the rest of my food! Unfortunately the miso broth was fairly bland and I had to zhuzh it up quite a bit with the sauces I got from the buffet. Once I combined my sauce concoction (peanut butter, soy sauce, chili oil, sriracha, sesame oil, and cilantro) to the broth, though, it was actually very good! I tried lotus root and rice cakes for the first time and loved both. I also tried both of the small cakes (labeled as tiramisu, but don't expect authentic tiramisu) that were available at the buffet for dessert and was happy with both. There were also cups of ice cream and popsicles available. I will say that it seemed a little expensive as a vegetarian, but I definitely ate my fill and would go back! I really enjoyed eating here! I've been to one hot pot spot before, but I love that this one lets each person customize their bowl - I have some friends with very different preferences and this is just perfect for us! If you haven't been to hot pot before, it can be a touch overwhelming at first, but it comes pretty naturally. You can order any of the apps or drinks (minus alcohol) you want for free with the buffet. I really enjoyed the calamari, short ribs, and the crab Rangoons for apps. The buns like the golden buns and taro buns were also tasty but I'd put them more as a dessert. For the hotpot itself, you pick your base broth then any meat you want to add in. They have a buffet with other toppings that you can peruse and pick anything up for your hotpot. They also have some sauces that you can mix together to dip your ingredients in once they're cooked. I got their bone broth (great and neutral base!) and a variety of toppings including beef and pork belly from their menu, then things like bok choy, shrimp, lobster balls, squid, quail eggs, lotus, carrots, and more! My sauce was some combo of sesame oil, garlic, scallions, hoisin - and then I got some kimchi, seaweed salad, and pickled radish for the side as a sort of palate cleanser. When you get all your food, you just plop it in the bowl! I would suggest thinking about how long the items will need to cook (for me the veggies were the thickest so they took the longest) - it is up to you really - but make sure you cook the meat all the way through (it doesn't take much time). Then you're ready to eat! Our server was great and came around a few times asking if we needed more food or broth. Some extra pro tips: try to use the tongs for the meat and then remember that they're "raw meat" tongs - aka don't grab your nice veggies with it if you don't want to contaminate them. You may find it helpful to snag one of their sauce bowls to ladle some of your broth into (I'm a wimp at too hot of food) to let it cool a bit. I have a hotpot problem. The problem is that I can't afford to eat here every day. So it works like this- you get seated at a table with spots for the hotpots, everyone gets their own. You pick your broth from a variety of options, like bone broth, miso, thai, etc. They have two vegetarian options. I enjoy the mushroom one myself. Drinks, appetizers and meats are ordered off the menu. Everything else can be found on the buffet. The buffet is huge. There are even more meat options here, as well as multiple varieties of tofu, tons of seafood, and a lots of veggies and noodles. Pick what you'd like and dump it in your hotpot. Let it simmer until it is done to your liking, and enjoy. Oh, and don't forget the sauce bar, and the desserts! The desserts are pretty standard, your little square cakes, ice cream, popsicles,that sort of thing. Hotpot is infinitely customizable to your preferences, and just a perfect meal on a Cold evening. Seating-wise, there are tables and booths, both of which are quite comfortable options. You can't really move the tables at all due to the machinery involved, if that matters to you. They also have a party room for up to 10 people. The only bummer is that it is a bit of a pricy meal, but it makes sense since it is all you can eat (including appetizers and meats). I visited Hot Pot 88 with my Supper Club group, and luckily we were only 6 people this time, so we fit perfectly in one booth. I think 6 might be the max per table, but double check on that if you have a larger group. Before this, I had never been to a hot pot restaurant with the boiling pots on your table, so I was a little scared at first, but there was nothing to be scared about. Everything went well and no burned arms or fingers! The interior was very cute with bright orange and lots of white to keep it cheery and light in there. Our server was so great, and she went through the ordering process with us first, very thoroughly. You can also order appetizers that come with your meal, but don't over order, because you will get charged if you order a bunch and don't eat them (we didn't over order). So you choose a protein or two for your hot pot, along with which broth you'd like, and place that order with your server. Then you go up to the cold items bar to choose what veggies, noodles, or other cold meats you will put in your hot pot concoction (like lobster balls, SPAM, etc). Our appetizers came out very quickly. We got the BBQ Pork Bun, Edamame, Beef Short Rib, and Beef Skewer. They aren'y huge appetizers, so you shouldn't have a problem finishing them. The BBQ Pork Bun was so flavorful, with a soft little fluffy bun. The edamame was great, and pefectly salted. And the two meats we got, the beef short rib and beef skewer, both came out nice and hot, and were super flavorful! When your hot pot kicks into action, the little plate on your table in front of you will sink into the table and you pour your broth in and turn the heat on. Once it's bubbling, you put your protein in to start cooking, then your veggies and noodles and things too. I got the mushroom gravy broth, and beef for my protein, with noodles, SPAM, and sausages added in from the extras bar, along with some veggies. It was a delicious mixture! Once your items are cooked and ready, you have some little tongs to scoop out each bite and not burn yourself. After we were done eating our hot pots, there is also a small selection of desserts near the veggie bar. We got ice cream, and a few different flavors of mini cakes. The desserts were pretty on par with the kind you find in a Chinese buffet restaurant, which I love. If you like an eating experience, this is a good place to check out. As far as the food, it was good but nothing that particularly stood out to me. I had a lot of fun with the concept of cooking my own food at the table, since it's different than the usual order-eat restaurant experience. That being said, $34 a person for the dinner meal is a bit high when you have to cook your own food. It's a buffet, so everything on the menu is included. That would've been nice to know or have explained ahead of time because we would've ordered a couple other things to try had we known it was all included. The friends we went with had been several times and love it, but we were talking on the way home and we probably wouldn't go back if given another choice. As far as the food quality, it was really good. Once we understood that the broth was meant to be just a base and that you would need to add lots of seasoning and spices to it in order for it to be flavorful enough to really enjoy, then we came up with something delicious. Our service was attentive and friendly, encouraging us to try different things and explaining what they were. Overall, the fresh vegetable and seafood offerings were nicely laid out on the buffet. Some of the vegetables were cut quite large or thick, which made it difficult to use them. For example, the carrot chips were cut so sickly that I ended up having to use the side blade of the tongs to cut them in half before I put them into my hot pot. Otherwise it would've taken much much longer to cook. Same with the broccoli, I pulled apart lots of florettes before I ended up using them. Just an attention to detail about how customers use the vegetables would improve a lot. This was my first time trying hotpot. If you haven't tried, I suggest watching a YouTube video to get the technique down. I was surprised by the amount of veggies and add ins you could choose from. Being an all you can eat setting allowed me to try combinations of different seafood, meat, fish balls, and appetizers. The waiter was helpful showing me how to work the heating element and allowing samples of broth to help select my flavor, I chose the spicy Sichuan broth. As this was my first time, I struggled controlling the heat and found myself trying to eat out of the pot as if it was soup. I quickly learned that is a good way to burn your mouth, the experience was better after learning to use the broth to cook and then transfer the food to a plate to eat. The restaurant had a nice clean appearance and was comfortable environment for talking. The restaurant got very crowded halfway through our meal, making it difficult to go back to the toppings bars as there was a long line. Very impressed with this location and while not flawless I'll give it 5 stars but it's closer to 4.5/5. We were immediately greeted when we walked in. The restaurant was clean without any weird smells despite being a hot pot place. (IYKYK) The waitress, by her own admission, was new but she was very kind. First con was they weren't 100% certain on the gluten free choices. I went with a family member who cannot eat gluten. I had to look up that information on their own website but the manager "wasn't sure". We were able to try the different broths before we picked ours since we were new there. I tried the tom yum and the spicy Sichuan mild. Husband tried bone and chicken broth (their two gf options). The tom yum and the Sichuan mild were both rather spicy to me. The chicken broth was just gross and the bone broth was mild but pleasant. We both ended up getting the bone soup broth. The meats were very good quality. Well marbled beef, pork belly, lamb, and the chicken was probably breast meat as it was lean. No complaints on the meat; I was very impressed. The toppings bar was impressive to me too. I really loved the tofu fish cakes and tofu skins. The rice cakes were also my favorite and the udon was just okay. The sauce varieties were good too and they did have GF soy sauce in a squeeze bottle so it wouldn't get contaminated. Very appreciated! Complaint 2 and 3. The soup pot wasn't that full of broth when she brought it out. MAYBE 2 inches of liquid? That wasn't enough IMO. Also I would have liked a larger bowl to put everything in after cooking. I know there were plates and sauce bowls, but a larger bowl would have been best. Con 4 would be when the waitress decided it was time to "top it off" she wanted to use either chicken broth or water. Neither of which did I agree with. If I wanted chicken broth I would have gotten that. I also don't need diluted soup because she then wanted to use water. If you feel you need top top it off for "safety concerns" give me more bone broth or whatever hot pot base you picked. She filled my husband's up with water until it was nearly full, had she done that when we first got there she wouldn't have needed to "top it off". I was basically done at that point so I made due, but still. The AYCE price includes non-alcoholic drinks including the teas at the dessert area. It also included appetizers. We tried the spring rolls which were gooey in my opinion and not cooked enough, but my husband liked them. I got the custard bun which I thought was yummy. Also tried the sticky rice with chicken and no that one was gross. The dessert bar included fruits and a few cakes as well as ice cream cups. The ice cream cups were generic ice cream and nothing to write home about but the tiramisu cake thing was good. One time we had our meat delivered by a robot so that was cute and fun. The price with 20% tip for lunch for two adults was just under $53. Overpriced? Maybe but I enjoyed the experience and I recommend it. I will say though that the menu says no one under 7 years old can eat hotpot but when I asked why no one would tell me. When I asked what are children expected to eat... no one answered me. This was such a fun experience!! You start by selecting a broth, protein and appetizer. You then head to what appears to be a salad bar but it is full of so many unique veggies, noodles and add ins for your broth. Anything from boy Choy and lotus to crawfish and quail eggs. You bring the selected add ins to the table and add them to your pot of broth which is sitting on its own hot plate at your table. You can adjust the temperature as necessary to bring everything to boil or back down when the soup is done. My family and I went here for Christmas Eve lunch, and we stuffed ourselves. You get multiple options for broth to choose from, and I opted for the bone broth. They have a salad bar lined up with some meats, seasonings, and veggies to add to your broth. There's starches, salad bar, and a dessert bar as well. You have quite a few meat options to choose from, but I went with beef and chicken. Our server was super friendly and provided great opinions on broth to try and even let us try samples to choose from. Make sure you come hungry because the lunch special was over $20 a person. This is the only place that exclusively serves hot pot, and it's a fun experience! It's AYCE including appetizers and meats. You have a 90 min limit per table and 20% charge on leftovers so don't let your eyes do the eating here. The waitress was very attentive to us on a Thursday night, and she was helpful with recommendations on dishes. We've been on a weekend evening and service was still great. You start with a broth, which I'd recommend the Thai Tom yum. Hubby got chicken coconut which was also delicious. MIL got miso and loved it. The spicy sichuan was just chili oil IMO so would not recommend that one. You get your own pots which is a big plus since parties usually share pots. The sides, veggies, noodles, and seafood are buffet style and all were very fresh. There was also a seafood boil set out with crawfish. The sauce station has recipes which is fun to make your own! Ice cream was available for dessert which was decent. Would recommend short ribs and crab Rangoon for appetizers. Lunch is $20 and dinner is $32. A few things on the menu was dinner only. The only thing I didn't like was that the server randomly comes around with a kettle and fills your pot with hot water which dilutes the broth. This makes me think you only get one pot but it's more than enough! So I told them no when they came around. It can be very crowded and loud on weekends but Thursday night was great. The service is great and the ambience is cosy even when it's a hotpot place. The establishment is not very smoky and the food selection is great. I like that they have good selection of hotpot ingredients as well as the cooked-ready to eat ones. Also, the ingredients are fresh, and the free drinks selection is good as well. For a place that's only been open a few months I'd like to give it to them for bringing something new to Omaha. The place is very clean with bright lights and plenty of seating. They do take reservations so try and place one before going the parking lot is pretty small. Appetizers were good the bao bun was soft and pillowy and the soft drinks and bottled teas make a good variety. The self service bar has a huge selection highly recommended the Szechuan pepper corn broth, sweet potato noodles try new options while here the selections are endless. Our waitresses were very attentive making sure we had everything that was needed from meats to drink refills. A seafood boil was good had lots of garlic and corn. Was very excited to finally try this place! For a hot pot place, it's a good price for your money. You are capped at 90 minutes before you're kicked out. I recommend adding yourself to the waitlist or making a reservation during busy dinner times. The service was a bit lacking which is why I removed 1 star. Two of my friend didn't get all the meats they ordered and when we reminded the server, the missing items still never came by the end of the meal. The food itself was delicious. There's so many options it's hard to resist trying them all. The unlimited appetizers are so good, but don't fill up on those! Even though I loved the egg rolls, crab rangoons, and custard buns. I've tried a couple broths but I think the coconut chicken broth is the best hands down. And all the meats rock! You can't go wrong there. Finally found a hot pot place in the Omaha area! The experience was great with a large selection of soup bases, appetizers, meats, sauces, veggies, drinks, and desserts. The restaurant is relatively new and very clean. I like that everyone gets their own personal hotpot so you can get exactly what you want. Our waitress was also very quick to attend to our needs and brought the food very quickly! Everything at the self-serve bars (both sauce and veggies) were very fresh, well-stocked, and clean. I had the tomato soup base and loved it. My favorite appetizers were the beef skewers, and my favorite meat was the sliced lamb.
