A great budget hotel option with convenient location, easy access to many tourist points, and great staff.
We stayed at Hotel Verona for a week in January without any issues - it was exactly what I needed; a no-frills hotel close to local tourist spots. Staff were friendly the entire experience - we arrived 1-2 hours earlier than anticipated due to our flight being early but our room was ready for us and the staff walked us through everything we needed. I really liked the post-11pm security measures they had in place with the double front doors and keycode.
The room itself was simple/elegant in furnishings and had basic amenities but that is exactly what we expected. The beds were comfortable, there was enough bedding, and there was a lot of storage space for our things. We liked the dim/bright light options in the room for different uses/times of day, and the switches were conveniently placed in the entrance and next to the bed. In the room is a small mini-fridge, a radiator/AC unit, an electronic passcode security box/safe, and to our surprise, a balcony. The bathroom was clean, with a glass shower and bidet, and cups for rinsing/shampoo/hand soap were refilled daily. We left early morning each day and had no issues with our room being cleaned/restocked. Sound-wise, the rooms are well soundproofed - we only heard anything when another guest was yelling down the hall.
Location-wise, Hotel Verona is fantastic and the main reason we picked this hotel - we took the bus, subway, and walked our entire trip and never had to walk far to find a stop/station. For those up to it, the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, etc are ~15min away and walkable. There are many food options nearby, a mix of grocery stores, and the hotel's proximity to the Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore made it very easy to navigate to once the Basilica is in sight. The neighbourhood feels very safe and we had no issues going out early morning or at night. The Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore is one of the best we visited, so I definitely recommend going since it's right next to the hotel.
One major thing we liked is how strong the wifi connection is. It required registration every 3 days (a simple process) and extended to around 1m out the front door. We were able to stay in touch with family/friends at home without issue, back up our photos to cloud, and most importantly, used the wifi to look up bus routes before leaving - immensely helpful as we didn't end up feeling the need to buy an eSIM once in Rome and because the bus routes/stops gave us the most trouble out of all transit options.
All in all solid experience - we were looking for a budget-friendly option to stay in Rome and mainly just needed a bed, a shower, and no bedbugs and Hotel Verona ended up exceeding our expectations with its great staff, the balcony in the room we got, and how seamless our stay was. I defnitely recommend checking out the brochures they have in the lobby - I went to the 3 Tenors opera performance (knew about it in advance) and it was a highlight of our trip. read more
