The biggest selling point about the hotel is that you're in the Gothic district and there's a metro station (Jaume 1). You walk outside and you'll be captivated by the bustling area, the history and the beautiful architecture.
The hotel itself was clean although the rooms were on the smaller side, the beds were fairly comfortable. Being a historic building, the facility itself is old but adequate where I couldn't really complain that something wasn't working or did I ever feel unsafe inside the building. The elevator was hit or miss in terms of wait time and there only being one for the whole hotel. We often just took the stairs which were in the middle of the building.
Comparing it to a US accommodation, I would say its about at the same level of an airport Best Western. Everything worked, sink, toilet were all fine. Towels were a bit on the flimsy side, paper cups wrapped in plastic. The AC in the room did not work regardless of what setting we put it on, it blew out hot air. It was cool in March so we opened the balcony door and let the air in (probably preferred anyway). Keep in mind, there are a lot of people walking about the gothic quarter at night, but people noise does die down after around 10PM. There are church bells as well every 30-60 minutes, but fairly faint and I didn't mind them.
We had a balcony in our room (not sure if every room has one) and this was by far the highlight being able to people watch. Its enough room to stand in but not enough to say sit there and have breakfast, but it was cool nonetheless.
We opted for the breakfast option in the hotel (even though there are tons of places to grab coffee and pastries, etc. within steps from the hotel. The selection on the hotel was definitely better than most places in the US hotel with a free breakfast (this wasn't a free option for us). The breakfast area is on the second floor and it was nice to be able to people watch from the window, the area is very busy (being there is a metro stop). I think they had champagne as well to make your own mimosas, but we didn't try it. I saw a few people that definitely enjoyed that option. read more
