Quite literally the most beautiful hotel I have ever set foot in. From the moment you check in to the moment you leave, the Palace Hotel is impeccable. The outside façade is beautiful and impressive and is a welcome sight after a long travel day. We couldn't check in early but we could drop our bags off and then hang out at any of the many restaurants or cafe nearby. Our room had a small balcony which views to the street, the bed was large and comfy, and the bathroom was huge with a tub, shower, and double sink. The staff was attentive and polite. We also did the afternoon tea in the main hall and it was just a magnificent experience. The hall is stunning and the tea sandwiches and pastries are delicious. The hotel also has a beautiful rooftop with views of Sagrada Familia as well as the whole city. Definitely would return to the Palace and highly recommend it.

OK, consider the 5 stars above TEN stars...this place is phenomenal! On a recent business trip to Barcelona (we extended for vacation days in BCN and then flew to Zanzibar for a week), this was the business meeting address. It is one of the best hotels I have ever seen, anywhere in the world. The service, location and rooms are unbelievably good. All of the staff behaves as if they are your personal concierge, treating you like family and saying hello by name once they meet you. I'm in awe of the staff here, especially Joan (pronounced JO-ahn, the Catalan version of Juan/John). Built in 1919 this was originally the Barcelona Ritz (as in "putting on the Ritz" and "ritz-y). You know it has to be a great place if there are adjectives connected to the name that mean expensively terrific. Once you see the front door and lobby, you won't mistake this place for a Motel 6. Location is unbelievably good too. It's within sight of most major tourist attractions, the business district is a short walk away and cultural offerings are also a walk or subway ride away. It's even easy to get to Los Ramblas and the beach. This part of town is also very safe even late at night, with wide open avenues and lots of people around at all hours. Probably the star of this show is the room itself. We were upgraded slightly and still given the business rate when we extended the stay. Picture a luxury hotel room crossed with Versailles. You'll feel like Louis XVI himself (minus that guillotine part) but waking up with a better view. The room had every modern convenience imaginable, plus even a few that we couldn't figure out what they were. The neighborhood is chock full of great restaurants and nightlife. There's a terrific hotel restaurant called Pavlova (separate review) too. It's a cliche I try to use sparingly: I really wish I could put far more than five stars on El Palace

Review is for rooftop restaurant only, but rest of hotel is pretty swanky. Rooftop view is outstanding, as expected, but food quality for tapas was extremely good and wine prices are reasonable (for a high end, tourist hotel rooftop restaurant). In short, a very worthwhile rooftop meal stop while in this part of town.

Amazing-Luxurious-Pampering-Service All words that spring to mind from our 4-night stay at Barcelona's original luxury hotel originally built in 1919 and for many years the Barcelona Ritz. Now a private hotel part of the Leading Hotels of the World consortium you feel special from the moment you arrive. We booked a junior suite which was massive and located on the 6th floor in a quiet end of the building to treat ourselves at the end of a two-week holiday in Spain. Yes it was pricey but a year from now we won't be remembering that, just the great stay in Barcelona. PROS: (based on our stay in room 619-junior suite). - HUGE room with a comfortable king-sized bed plus plenty of room for a couch and two chairs -large walk-in closet (was bigger than the bathroom at our "luxury" hotel in Granada -pillow "menu" with six different choice so you are assured a good nights sleep -massive modern bathroom with nice amenities and double sink -the double shower was sized for a locker room with a long bench, two overhead rain showers, and two handheld jets. -our room was very quiet and clean -bountiful breakfast buffet (included in most but not all room rates-TIP: you can sign up for the Leading Hotels Loyalty program (free for first year) and get free breakfast during your stay if it wasn't already included for you- this is what we did) -beautiful rooftop terrace with amazing views and a bar-perfect for a cocktail and snack -live music-evening piano in the lounge and live jazz in the downstairs club and DJ on the roof -BIGGEST STANDOUT is the STAFF-especially Paco and the entire the concierge staff who are there 24x7 and can book last minute concerts, make reservations and give directions in flawless English-so very service minded and helpful-among the best we've encountered in our travels anywhere OPPORTUNITIES: in reality, nothing of consequence-this place is very close to perfect -I guess I wish the tiny writing on the shampoo bottles was bigger or darker, it was difficult to tell shampoo from body wash but really really minor nit HIGHLY recommended

If I could give it 10 stars I would . Lovely hotel one of the most beautiful hotel I have stayed . The customer service and people are so well mannered and very friendly. Beautiful Terrance on the 7 th floor and the bar is a picture perfect , beautiful area . All I can say a must when you travel to Barcelona . The restaurants are fabulous the food is amazing .

They had roses waiting in our suite and champagne. More beautiful than I could if imagined when we ordered.

Amazing hotel. I've traveled a lot and stayed at some amazing places and I can honestly say the staff here is second to none. The breakfast is delicious and the room service food is fantastic. Centrally located in Barcelona. This hotel offers top notch amenities. The spa was amazing and made my daughter and I feel like queens. So much charm the hotel itself is stunning and the rooms and beds are exceptional. I can't sing the praises of this hotel enough. They have set the standard for what I will now look for in my future traveling accommodations.

Fantastic hotel! Great reception and lobby area. Humongous lobby seating area too. Rooms modern and nicely equipped, great bathroom. Average (free) WiFi with annoying sign on. Buffet breakfast and premier restaurant. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, well-appointed building, lobby sitting areas, restaurant, etc. Staff were friendly and very accommodating with bag storage, delivering bags to our room before we returned, restaurant recommendations and more. The rooftop is big with pool, bar and a number of seating areas for a 360 view of the city. Relaxing place to sit with a drink. Spa in basement is nice with all amenities. You have to reserve use and it's capped at 30 mins. Rooms are decent size allowing for suitcases and still moving around room. Bathroom is clean and has everything needed including heated towel rack and bidet. Although robes weren't included we found some at spa we used for the remainder of our trip. Lobby is very spacious and comfy, and there is live music in Thur-Sun. Great place to relax with a drink after exploring all day. Breakfast was extensive and a nice start to each day. Included made to order as well as plenty of ready made options for all palettes. The Not as Good We reserved both a superior and classic room but couldn't tell the difference for an additional 130 euros. The front desk said the superior had "more light." Potentially but not sure that was described as difference for what we paid. The rooms lack power outlets. Nothing by bedside. USB by desk but no USB-C or Int'l plugs. We had phones plugged in behind chairs, tea kettle sitting on floor, laptop in bathroom... The subway is underneath the hotel and even though we're on the 4th floor it was loud with lots of vibration. We had Do Not Disturb on for our entire trip but staff entered regardless and made up room. Not a big deal but surprised us and meant we had to put our belongings away every time we left not knowing who would enter when. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we would come back but many hotels we passed by looked like good options as well.

TLDR: Come for the rooftop views of Barcelona, not so much for the stay…read more While Barceló Raval's rooftop offers one of the best panoramic views of Barcelona, the hotel itself is giving knockoff of the W. They try to give off that sexy, mysterious vibe, but as soon as you step into the room, the green ceiling, cheap fixtures and damask wallpaper give it away. The hotel is reasonably "affordable" for its location (near the Gothic Quarter and La Barceloneta), but definitely in a sketchy area. I highly advise walking outside the hotel at night, as you'll find the rough crowds your parents warned you about. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk, and to get there, you have to cut through some of the sketchiest alleys. I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to a room with a view, a bottle of mini wine & an extra bottle of water. My amenities weren't so great from the moment I opened the door. Since my room was pretty high up, the room was stifling & those views were blocked by a stainless steel mesh. FYI: your room requires a key card at all times if you're trying to use electricity, which includes air conditioning. The shower initially felt luxurious--spacious with a giant waterfall head and solid water pressure--followed by lush bath towels, but that impression faded once I noticed the pockets of mold and grime in the corners. Sleeping was also a challenge since walls are thin and anytime the guests next to me entered their room, it sounded like someone was entering mine, which kept me paranoid and on high alert. Rooftop: the rooftop not only offers panoramic views of Barcelona, but also has a bar and pool, though hard to even suggest the pool is an amenity since it's more so for aesthetic than functionality. On the roof, it's not an open floor plan, so you'll have to walk around the building to get a full 360 view. For those who are height deficient such as myself: prepare for obstructed views because of the high railings (great for safety, but not so much for those under 5'3).

She also asked about what kind of wine we liked and we later found a bottle in our room which was very thoughtful. Our room was decent with a nice view of the beach and the only room issues we had was water running out of the shower into the sink area and a slow sink drain. We did have an incident on our last day when an overzealous/rude security guard tried to stop us from entering the front entrance at about 0900 by sternly questioning us in Spanish which we couldn't understand. The location is truly unbeatable - just a block away from Plaça de Catalunya, a couple of blocks from a major metro stop and several main bus lines, a few blocks from great shopping and with good casual food scattered throughout. It's a great central spot for sightseeing where you're primarily relying on public transit, but also quiet and safe if traveling solo. I booked a signature room through my travel agent, and was delighted that they allowed me to check in a couple of hours early AND upgraded me to a signature balcony room. The hotel is very cute snd colorful, with modern design. The room was clean and pretty spacious, and the balcony was such a nice touch! I liked opening the windows every afternoon and sitting on the chaise and reading. There are refillable water stations on each floor by the elevator, which was a small but big perk to me. Awesome water pressure and temperature, kind, attentive service by staff, and incredible rooftop bar made this a fun place to kick off my stay in Spain. Small gripes: As a short person was the bathroom tub was a bit tall for me to climb into and out of. There was not a true fridge/freezer in the room; the staff was kind enough to store something in their freezer for me but it felt too out of my way to ask them to do it too often for me. The lobby bar drinks were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall though this is such a great hotel and I'd absolutely stay here again. It feels luxe but had very reasonable rates, even right after Easter which is peak tourism. The rooftop bar is very much worth a visit, beautiful views of the city and a fun, lively vibe. I cannot recommend this hotel more!

10/31 Le Meridien…read morewas born with the idea of providing Air France staff a place to stay when transiting during the Starwood years. Now, as a Marriott owned brand; Le Meridien continues the French spirit within their walls. Purpose: my first ever Transatlantic cruise in Spain began in Barcelona, and I was able to book a stay with this Le Meridien property in the center of town and 10 minutes to the cruise terminal. Location: Plaza de Espana is roughly 10 minutes by foot, nestled in a baroque building, and foot steps away from major transit lines, shopping, dinning, and entertainment. The cobble stones were very, well cobbly; considering that construction on the curbs lining the walkable streets were on-going. Conveniently 30 minutes away from and to the Barcelona airport by way of shuttle. At First Glance: you will find the main entrance to the hotel after making a turn into an alley way. Bell staff are eager to assist with luggage when making way up the marble steps to enter the hotel. The lobby is flanked with a cafe and seating area to the left. Men's and women's restrooms are in the center of the lobby, while to the right sits the front desk/concierge/bell desk and to the far right are the guest elevators and hotel restaurant. I found that the design of the lobby is reminiscent of; can I say classic French (think - semi translucent glass, red oak, black finishes, and velvet furniture). The Welcome: the registration agents were quite cheerful. It was roughly 11am and I was fully aware and prepared to hear that our room was not ready. The agent assured that I'll get a call as soon as my room is ready. Our luggage was collected, stowed, and distilled waters were provided to us for the long day ahead. We received a call back with the hour, though we did not return until later in the evening. The Room: the same design language seen in the lobby is carried out through into the guest room. A small balcony, while doesn't seem to allow a single person to walk onto, it does open to provide fresh air. My only caveat for the room was that the glass door to the bathroom wouldn't close entirely but that the room was spacious, clean and functional. While our room was assigned to the 2nd floor (3rd floor in actuality) we did not hear too much street noise. Having traveled for 18+ hours and being extremely tired; being able to sleep in a comfortable bed was much needed. The Next Morning: as a Bonvoy Platinum member; I opted in receiving buffet breakfast for 2 in lieu of welcome points. European hotel breakfast hits differently in comparison to those enjoyed in the United States; variety being the biggest draw. I came into the restaurant with my eyes wide open and scouring all of the hot stations. Everything offered was absolutely delicious. There cherry on the top; a mimosa station - a game changer. We bided adieu to our one night stay at this Le Meridien hotel, thankful for a full nights rest and looking forward to a future stay whenever that may be.

Arrival & Parking This hotel is very difficult to reach by car. I wouldn't recommend driving or trying to park nearby. The hotel suggested a parking garage by the Cathedral, which offered a hotel rate of €40. While helpful, it still meant hauling large bags through crowded, sometimes sketchy Gothic Quarter streets--and getting lost along the way. Leaving in the early morning was easier thanks to clear directions and fewer crowds. Location The setting is both a plus and a drawback. You can walk to nearly everything, but evenings bring heavy crowds, street noise, and safety concerns. Even with doors closed, the noise from motorcycles and parties made it hard to sleep. Check-In & Amenities Check-in was slow, partly due to a large birthday group arriving at the same time. The cava offered while waiting was a nice touch. The hotel has typical Kimpton perks, like the evening social hour (wine from 6-7 p.m. in the restaurant), but the space was cramped with little room to sit or mingle. Room We stayed in a corner king with Juliet balconies overlooking two streets. The layout, however, was awkward. The toilet was located in a small closet near the entry, while the sink and shower were across the room--an inconvenient and unappealing setup. Both bathroom areas were very small. That said, the toiletries were excellent, the robes stylish (though unbranded), and the bed comfortable. Based on photos, other rooms appear to have better layouts. Rooftop The rooftop pool area was attractive but limited, with only about eight loungers. After waiting, we found two. The pool was unheated and very cold, though thankfully small enough that no one tried to swim. The views were nice but included some rundown rooftops. We enjoyed smoothies and tapas--especially the patatas bravas, which were fantastic. Unfortunately, the main restaurant had few vegan options, so we dined elsewhere. Breakfast & Service As an IHG Diamond member, I could have selected breakfast, but it didn't start until 7:30 and we had to leave earlier. The staff kindly prepared takeaway bags with pastries, fruit, and a sandwich, which was much appreciated. I later learned the hotel offers yoga and a spa, though none of this was mentioned at check-in--likely because the staff was so busy during our brief stay. Overall A stylish Kimpton property with standout service touches and a great location for exploring on foot, but the noise, room layout, and parking challenges keep it from being as seamless as other Kimpton experiences I've had.
