Last time I went to Barcelona was 2023 and I stayed at Hotel 1898. It was so fabulous that I had to return. STILL FABULOUS! Even though the Rambla is under construction, the second you enter 1898 you are transformed into vacation. Our room was cozy, comfy, and quiet. Free breakfast to fill you for the day and a place to meet other travelers. The pool on the roof is a must and the bar too. I highly recommend this hotel. Tell them I sent you. Fondly, Stephanie

A classy and elegant but not pretentious hotel in Barcelona. Located in La Rambla and a few minutes walk to must see places like La Boqueria, Placa de Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia. Facilities and service were excellent. We were welcomed in our room with a bottle of chilled Cava and provided with free daily breakfast which was not included in our original booking. Aside from the daily room cleaning, Hotel 1898 also provides daily turn-down service. Definitely a must stay place in Barcelona.

This area is apart from the pool but there's tables to eat, drink, and enjoy views

Very chill Rooftop in a hot spot center of Barcelona. If you're looking for a slower pace and great views this is definitely a good choice. They have a rooftop pool, cabanas, and full 360 rooftop views. Full bar, good food, and really chill fellow guests. Definitely not a place I would come to rage but it was just when I needed on Day 6 of a Barcelona. They also have a friendly staff and a beautiful hotel lo

If you're visiting Barcelona... STAY HERE! This is perhaps one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. The pool and sauna were such an incredible feature to enjoy as a break away from the high energy of the city. Plus, there's a rooftop pool too with beautiful views. There's also live music in the evenings in the hotel lobby! Our room had an all jade bathroom that was just beautiful. The location couldn't be better either. You can walk EVERYWHERE from this hotel! I was shocked at how fair the price per night was here. My only regret is that we didn't stay at this location for more than 2 nights! I highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Great hotel in a wonderful area of Barcelona! Located by La Rambla, this very secure hotel has a wonderful friendly staff and smells great (literally). My room faced the interior. I could hear the seagulls at about 7 in the morning. The breakfast is on the 1st floor (not the 0 floor). My room was clean, good size and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was average size. It included both a toilet and a bidet. My personal view on hotels: Location is key!! This hotel is in a perfect area for all!!

Great location and very nice overall. 2 nights after 3 week adventure before flying back to LAX. room 201 specifics. Nice room but a bit small and dark. 2nd day no drinking water and fresh coffee cups but no coffee. Bath sink plunger stuck down when closed for my shave. Subway runs 24/7 and rumbles room so not restful. Rooftop has pool and bar and restaurant. Great city views. Excellent wait staff. Pool ice cold. Breakfast buffet is extensive and regional with many good choices. Don't miss the champagne when you walk in. Not advertised but ask for custom omelet from staff. Wanted to love it but the flaws stacked up and some staff have a "I don't care" attitude.

We've been to Barcelona a few times now and stayed in some lovely places but Hotel 1898 stands out. Pristine, with some really beautifully done spaces including a library/workspace. In our Superior room we were met with cold champagne and the decor is gorgeous. In La Rambla but QUIET. Staff is responsive and kind. Restaurant is delicious for dinner. Best of all is the breakfast buffet it's smashing with everything from cereal and yogurt to Catalonian specialties, a mini Full English and eggs made to order. Our daughter couldn't make it in time (7 am to 11 am) and they gave me a tray to take hers to to her room. Epic.

First visit after 16 years and happy to report that the hotel is as wonderful as ever! Gorgeous rooftop, beautiful rooms, and central to just about everything. Love!

Beautiful hotel with great amenities. The bathrooms are spacious and the spa is breathtaking

I could go on endlessly about this place and how amazing it was!!! Man oh man if you want location- this IS it! Right on La Rambla the most amazing street in Barcelona. However we slept nightly with our terrace door open and wasn't woken once. Noise is not a problem. We spent time at the hotel bar with Eyder the best bartender around. He made us feel at home and made great drinks with a wonderful attitude. The hotel has 2 pools both gorgeously done. I would have liked the lower one a little bit warmer, still too chilly for me! There is an amazing view from the roof too. It's also a 15 minute walk to the beach or cable car up the mountain. I loved it here and look forward to coming back!!!

They try to give off that sexy, mysterious vibe, but as soon as you step into the room, the green ceiling, cheap fixtures and damask wallpaper give it away. The hotel is reasonably "affordable" for its location (near the Gothic Quarter and La Barceloneta), but definitely in a sketchy area. I highly advise walking outside the hotel at night, as you'll find the rough crowds your parents warned you about. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk, and to get there, you have to cut through some of the sketchiest alleys. I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to a room with a view, a bottle of mini wine & an extra bottle of water. My amenities weren't so great from the moment I opened the door. Since my room was pretty high up, the room was stifling & those views were blocked by a stainless steel mesh. FYI: your room requires a key card at all times if you're trying to use electricity, which includes air conditioning. The shower initially felt luxurious--spacious with a giant waterfall head and solid water pressure--followed by lush bath towels, but that impression faded once I noticed the pockets of mold and grime in the corners. Sleeping was also a challenge since walls are thin and anytime the guests next to me entered their room, it sounded like someone was entering mine, which kept me paranoid and on high alert. Rooftop: the rooftop not only offers panoramic views of Barcelona, but also has a bar and pool, though hard to even suggest the pool is an amenity since it's more so for aesthetic than functionality. On the roof, it's not an open floor plan, so you'll have to walk around the building to get a full 360 view. For those who are height deficient such as myself: prepare for obstructed views because of the high railings (great for safety, but not so much for those under 5'3).

She also asked about what kind of wine we liked and we later found a bottle in our room which was very thoughtful. Our room was decent with a nice view of the beach and the only room issues we had was water running out of the shower into the sink area and a slow sink drain. We did have an incident on our last day when an overzealous/rude security guard tried to stop us from entering the front entrance at about 0900 by sternly questioning us in Spanish which we couldn't understand. We brought up the issue with a front desk manager who told us she would talk to the security manager but we never heard from anyone. That incident kind of spoiled an otherwise nice stay.

The location is truly unbeatable - just a block away from Plaça de Catalunya, a couple of blocks from a major metro stop and several main bus lines, a few blocks from great shopping and with good casual food scattered throughout. It's a great central spot for sightseeing where you're primarily relying on public transit, but also quiet and safe if traveling solo. I booked a signature room through my travel agent, and was delighted that they allowed me to check in a couple of hours early AND upgraded me to a signature balcony room. The hotel is very cute snd colorful, with modern design. The room was clean and pretty spacious, and the balcony was such a nice touch! I liked opening the windows every afternoon and sitting on the chaise and reading. There are refillable water stations on each floor by the elevator, which was a small but big perk to me. Awesome water pressure and temperature, kind, attentive service by staff, and incredible rooftop bar made this a fun place to kick off my stay in Spain. Small gripes: As a short person was the bathroom tub was a bit tall for me to climb into and out of. There was not a true fridge/freezer in the room; the staff was kind enough to store something in their freezer for me but it felt too out of my way to ask them to do it too often for me. The lobby bar drinks were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall though this is such a great hotel and I'd absolutely stay here again. It feels luxe but had very reasonable rates, even right after Easter which is peak tourism. The rooftop bar is very much worth a visit, beautiful views of the city and a fun, lively vibe. I cannot recommend this hotel more!

10/31 Le Meridien…read morewas born with the idea of providing Air France staff a place to stay when transiting during the Starwood years. Now, as a Marriott owned brand; Le Meridien continues the French spirit within their walls. Purpose: my first ever Transatlantic cruise in Spain began in Barcelona, and I was able to book a stay with this Le Meridien property in the center of town and 10 minutes to the cruise terminal. Location: Plaza de Espana is roughly 10 minutes by foot, nestled in a baroque building, and foot steps away from major transit lines, shopping, dinning, and entertainment. The cobble stones were very, well cobbly; considering that construction on the curbs lining the walkable streets were on-going. Conveniently 30 minutes away from and to the Barcelona airport by way of shuttle. At First Glance: you will find the main entrance to the hotel after making a turn into an alley way. Bell staff are eager to assist with luggage when making way up the marble steps to enter the hotel. The lobby is flanked with a cafe and seating area to the left. Men's and women's restrooms are in the center of the lobby, while to the right sits the front desk/concierge/bell desk and to the far right are the guest elevators and hotel restaurant. I found that the design of the lobby is reminiscent of; can I say classic French (think - semi translucent glass, red oak, black finishes, and velvet furniture). The Welcome: the registration agents were quite cheerful. It was roughly 11am and I was fully aware and prepared to hear that our room was not ready. The agent assured that I'll get a call as soon as my room is ready. Our luggage was collected, stowed, and distilled waters were provided to us for the long day ahead. We received a call back with the hour, though we did not return until later in the evening. The Room: the same design language seen in the lobby is carried out through into the guest room. A small balcony, while doesn't seem to allow a single person to walk onto, it does open to provide fresh air. My only caveat for the room was that the glass door to the bathroom wouldn't close entirely but that the room was spacious, clean and functional. While our room was assigned to the 2nd floor (3rd floor in actuality) we did not hear too much street noise. Having traveled for 18+ hours and being extremely tired; being able to sleep in a comfortable bed was much needed. The Next Morning: as a Bonvoy Platinum member; I opted in receiving buffet breakfast for 2 in lieu of welcome points. European hotel breakfast hits differently in comparison to those enjoyed in the United States; variety being the biggest draw. I came into the restaurant with my eyes wide open and scouring all of the hot stations. Everything offered was absolutely delicious. There cherry on the top; a mimosa station - a game changer. We bided adieu to our one night stay at this Le Meridien hotel, thankful for a full nights rest and looking forward to a future stay whenever that may be.

Arrival & Parking This hotel is very difficult to reach by car. I wouldn't recommend driving or trying to park nearby. The hotel suggested a parking garage by the Cathedral, which offered a hotel rate of €40. While helpful, it still meant hauling large bags through crowded, sometimes sketchy Gothic Quarter streets--and getting lost along the way. Leaving in the early morning was easier thanks to clear directions and fewer crowds. Location The setting is both a plus and a drawback. You can walk to nearly everything, but evenings bring heavy crowds, street noise, and safety concerns. Even with doors closed, the noise from motorcycles and parties made it hard to sleep. Check-In & Amenities Check-in was slow, partly due to a large birthday group arriving at the same time. The cava offered while waiting was a nice touch. The hotel has typical Kimpton perks, like the evening social hour (wine from 6-7 p.m. in the restaurant), but the space was cramped with little room to sit or mingle. Room We stayed in a corner king with Juliet balconies overlooking two streets. The layout, however, was awkward. The toilet was located in a small closet near the entry, while the sink and shower were across the room--an inconvenient and unappealing setup. Both bathroom areas were very small. That said, the toiletries were excellent, the robes stylish (though unbranded), and the bed comfortable. Based on photos, other rooms appear to have better layouts. Rooftop The rooftop pool area was attractive but limited, with only about eight loungers. After waiting, we found two. The pool was unheated and very cold, though thankfully small enough that no one tried to swim. The views were nice but included some rundown rooftops. We enjoyed smoothies and tapas--especially the patatas bravas, which were fantastic. Unfortunately, the main restaurant had few vegan options, so we dined elsewhere. Breakfast & Service As an IHG Diamond member, I could have selected breakfast, but it didn't start until 7:30 and we had to leave earlier. The staff kindly prepared takeaway bags with pastries, fruit, and a sandwich, which was much appreciated. I later learned the hotel offers yoga and a spa, though none of this was mentioned at check-in--likely because the staff was so busy during our brief stay. Overall A stylish Kimpton property with standout service touches and a great location for exploring on foot, but the noise, room layout, and parking challenges keep it from being as seamless as other Kimpton experiences I've had.
