Fridge, hot water pot and hair dryer in room. Complimentary water bottles in room. Chilled champagne welcomed us in the room when we arrived. Modern bath. Be careful of shower curtain staying in shower. We had a wet floor the first time. Shampoo, conditioner and bath soap dispenser in shower. Umbrellas, infused water and sweets in the lobby. Fantastic stay at Hotel Jazz! Great location, although a bit tucked away off of the main street. It is sleek and modern in design, and my room was clean, comfortable, and surprisingly large. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the included buffet breakfast was tasty. There weren't tons of options, but it hit the spot. Prices were also quite reasonable for my stay. A young woman at the front desk explained her family's tradition with the Catalan holiday customs regarding the Christmas log (how cute!). Breakfast was perfect and rooms were clean and comfortable. I was leaning towards giving the Hotel Jazz a more negative review for two main reasons: 1) the bed is rock hard, like sleeping on the sidewalk hard. Our bodies would actually ache in the morning. 2) the breakfast is quite average and made me want to skip it even though we'd paid for it. I wanted to go more positive though, when I remembered all the good things about this place. 1) The front desk immediately brought up a mattress pad for the bed when I inquired, and it helped a little. 2) Service overall here is friendly and helpful. 3) The hotel is steps away from the Universitat Metro station and maybe a five minute walk from Plaça Catalunya. 4) There is an Aerobus stop right there at Univeristat - a really cheap way to get from the airport. (7 euros) 5) Plenty of places to eat nearby. So I guess if you can handle the bed and you maybe plan to skip out on breakfast it's a pretty decent place after all. read more

This was stop #1 on our 3-week Euro trip. We really enjoyed the location and proximity to popular landmarks like Las Ramblas. Concierge was incredibly nice and suggested a few local eateries. The space itself wasn't too small for a Euro hotel. It was modern, clean, and features a rooftop deck with pool and lounge chairs. The only thing that may bother people is that homelessness is prevalent Barcelona. There is one man who calls the front of this hotel "home." However, he is harmless and keeps to himself, so it should be an issue. We booked last minute using Hotel Tonight and were pleased with how it turned out. Jazz hands! This hotel is a nice spot in a good location, right between the Universitat Square and Plaza Catalunya. Talk about a great location- it's across the street from three or four supermarkets, a breakfast spot and lots of shopping. It's a weird name for a hotel like this, Hotel Jazz. There isn't much jazzy about it. It doesn't exude the funkiness of jazz. Much too formal for a Jazz hotel. I would think this hotel was out of its place if it were to be magically transported to the French Quarter of Nola. Who dat?! The hotel is clean. The rooms are small. They did have all the things you'd expect- elevators, a pool on the roof, a concierge, televisions in the room, a full on bidet! The rooms were nice, and had a window looking into the central courtyard, which was nice. It was quiet there too. The staff was pleasant. The elevators were fairly annoying. They never got around to telling the elevator control panel that there are two of them, so they can work together. Instead, you have to push both elevator buttons to summon both elevators, or you'll just wait around for the one elevator whose button you press. While we were staying, they reported that the elevators were out of order. When they saw that a wheelchair wasn't going up the stairs to the sixth floor, they offered the secret freight elevator they have! Overall, I'd stay here again. They were a pleasant place, with a confusing name. read more

Modern-looking hotel downtown Barcelona near the University. The reason I gave it three stars and not less was because the staff was excellent. The rooms, not so much. We stayed three nights prior to a cruise, and one night after. In both rooms, the HVAC system either froze us or roasted us -- no in between; the water pressure in the shower was weak, both on the 7th and 2nd floors; the water temperature gyrated wildly between freezing cold and scalding hot; and the shower/tubs had the slickest surface of any bath I have ever been in, and no shower mat. Very very dangerous. If you could transplant the staff into a decent building you'd really have something. read more

This is a beautiful property with a modern, luxurious feel. For those of you who want a more American style hotel when you travel to Europe, this fits the bill. You will pay for this comfort, however, since the rates here are pretty high. Overall, this is a fantastic hotel. The location is wonderful and you are steps away from some of Barcelona's best restaurants and tapas bars, the metro and train station, and some of the city's most picturesque streets. The hotel is in a very safe area and we walked around the area all hours of the day and night with no problems. The hotel's security is top-notch with a full-time guard in the lobby and security cameras around the property. The staff was fantastic and multilingual. When we arrived early and our room wasn't ready, they stored our luggage safely and securely. I can't say enough about the wonderful and professional staff; everyone we encountered was extremely helpful and friendly. The air conditioning was FABULOUS and our room was kept icy cold on the hottest days. In fact, we had to turn off the a/c a few times since the room got so chilly. As you can read in my other reviews over the years, having a good a/c unit is very important to me and this hotel kept me nice and cool (this would be a great hotel for the sweltering summertime). Other great perks included an in-room towel warmer, in-room safe, in-room refrigerator, on-site restaurant, and free wireless internet! The rooms have a sleek, modern design. They are extremely well appointed and well laid out. The rooms are small compared to U.S. hotels, but they are comfortable. The room felt brand new and was extremely clean. The room has nice faux-wood floors and a very large bathroom (complete with toilet and bidet). The shower made for an interesting experience as it didn't have a door or curtain, just a very small glass partition that resulted in water getting all over the place. The hotel provided a very nice in-room toiletry kit with a razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, bath gel, shampoo / conditioner and soap. The soap bar was super tiny so you might want to bring your own. I really cannot think of any complaints or warnings about this hotel. It was simply fantastic. read more

Found this hotel on Trip Advisor but there were also a few Yelp reviews at the time. Probably the best thing about it is the location. It's located basically at the University of Barcelona and adjacent to Plaza Catalunya, where the Aerobus from the BCN airport makes its stop. Trust me, I studied all of the options and took the train in, but Aerobus is the best if you're staying near Placa Catalunya. If you're planning a trip to BCN, you're probably aware of La Rambla by now. Hotel Jazz is super central. It's conveniently located at the north end of La Rambla, but it's also walkable to many of the tapas hotspots such as Tapas 24, Ciudad Comdal and the over-hyped Cerveceria Catalunya. We had planned on taking the subway more but wound up walking almost everywhere. The #24 bus to Sagrada Familia stops about a block away. Uber-convenient. Second best thing is that it's a great value. The property itself is a very contemporary "boutique" hotel that looks like it was either built or renovated perhaps 7 to 10 years ago. There are a few tiny worn areas, but overall it's clean and still very nice. The rooftop deck is very cool and has a small pool that offers a welcome cool off during hot summer months. They also have drinks and snacks for sale up there. Front desk service is world class. Extremely pleasant and knowledgeable with excellent English. They provided excellent advice on planning a day that included Parc Guel and Sagrada Familia. Only downside is that I don't believe that there is in-room coffee and the choices nearby are slim. Wound up at Starbucks at least once, which is a bummer for a Yank like me. Found a great deal on Booking.com. So I booked it right away! Stayed 8 nights i July and had a great time. Hotel Jazz is located just between Placa Catalunya and Universitat. So you have both subway stations just around the corner. And it's two different lines so you have lots of possibilities to smoothly go where you want. For example if you like to go to El Born, just take the subway two stations two Arc de Triomf or to the beach, take the subway to Barceloneta. Walking distance to Las Ramblas is 3 minutes. (If you like to hang around the other millions of tourists..) But walking distance to all the other cosy streets and areas in central Barcelona. So the location is in my opinion perfect. We took the Aerobus from the airport. Get off at station Universitat. Then it's like 200 meters to the hotel. The hotel was a pleasant surprise! It has only 3 stars, but I think it deserves 4 stars. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious. We had the cheapest room. But it had a huge double bed, large bathroom with bathtub/shower, minibar, AC that worked perfectly and quietly. Safetybox, flatscreen TV on the wall over desk and decent wardrobe space. Breakfast was included in our deal and it was good. Nothing extra, but different juices, cereal and yogurts, bread, toast with salami, jamon, cheese, eggs, bacon, sausage, lots of sweet cakes. You could get omelettes on order. We never tried it though. The best thing with the Hotel Jazz is the rooftop bar/lounge with poolarea. Pool (not olympic size, but ok for cooling down or swimming a couple of meters up and down) with good amount of sunbeds. During the day it's often very quiet and still. Perfect if you don't want to go the crowded beach and worry about thieves stealing your stuff while your in the water.. Lots of shaded lounge sofas and comfy chairs. Bar with bar menu open from 12pm late night. Toilets and outdoor shower. We spent most of our days here before heading out for late lunch or down to the beach. Free wi-fi in the Hotel area. Worked pretty good! Staff in the reception very helpful and speaks good english. But girl with glasses and blond ponytail working at the rooftop bar... should get another job and not work with service! Slowest person alive and on top of that, rude and not nice! But despite of her, can really recommend staying at Jazz! Will return. read more

We selected this hotel based on reviews that we read in Rick Steve's publications and what a great choice. It is centrally located to everything; shopping, beaches, markets, tapas bars, etc. The best way to get to the hotel from the airport is to jump in a cab as it is a much faster trip and will only set you back around 35 Euro getting you right to the door. You also have the option of a bus that takes twice the time and still leaves you walking around 2 blocks. The rooms are modern and clean with all the necessary conveniences (including hair dryers ladies) and very comfortable beds. The staff... I cannot say enough about the staff they all go above and beyond and are very professional. Most all speak very good English. Nice roof top pool with a bar although we did not take time to enjoy it as we were too busy doing things outside the hotel. read more

I could see staying here again, but I'm not enthusiastic about it. What is it with the dinner mint-sized soap in a wrapper you have to cut open? Are they really afraid someone will want one badly enough to take it home? There is shampoo and bath get, but no conditioner or bath soap. Can't they get full-sized towels more plush than a dish towel? No free Cava for us. Just a minibar. The room is modern, but sparse. It has an ok tv, a safe that might work, a bidet, but no clock, radio, coffee maker or tissues. The desk chair is uncomfortable. Closet space is tiny. The AC works well. The bed is 2 twins pushed together, with a hard spine down the middle. Not great. The breakfast spread is good, except for no brewed decaf, just Nescafe- blechh! The location is good, without a doubt. The wifi is ok, but requires repeated sign-ons. The staff is friendly. It is very clean. You could do worse, but you might do better elsewhere read more

With a name like this, you wouldn't expect its gothic-like lobby, but I'm probably being a bit harsh. It's a bit gloomy, with some unsightly columns, and the lounge in the back corner behind the elevators, only 2 exists here. Black tiling doesn't help either but nice to see a security guard stationed. Good, safe area, in a good shopping walking around area, just 10 min away to the La Rambla, market, etc. At nite, you'd feel safe. A Subway on the outside corner of this block. A bit of a strange front lobby, facing a wall of another building in front, with motor bikes lined up in a row. Obviously nothing fancy, though the rooms are a pleasant surprise. Spacious, with a nice cool bench at the foot of the bed. Great for piling your junk, suitcase and tying up the shoes. Washroom very spacious, plus a buday (wrong spelling, it's late lol) beside the toilet, nice touch. Good amount of closet space too. Loved the hallways, with the suite# gigantically displayed on the doors as per pic. Definitely would repeat at this price, something like $150 euros for November. It's not a super highrise either, almost feels a bit boutique-ish. Friendly service, though there's no gym/jacuzzi but a gorgeous pool on the roofdeck and comffy lounge chairs. Hotel Jazz was comfortable. The hotel has modern room comfortable rooms. The bed was a lil to firm for me but I still slept well. The hotel is located near the tourist area and easy to walk to Las Ramblas and Plaça de Catalunya. There were grocery stores around the corner to pick up items as well as several close restaurants. They have breakfast and the rooftop view is great with a small pool and drinks. Front desk staff spoke english very well and was helpful when asked questions. Nice clean hotel. Desk staff was nice but didn't offer anything other than a check in. No info on the services or the area. Pool staff didn't seem very friendly. Was having a great time on the deck until I witnessed the staff have an argument in front of me. It was in Catalan and I don't speak the language. I was unimpressed. I bought a beer on the deck, it got spilt minutes later by another guest, staff wouldn't replace it. Pool deck gets very busy so get there early to grab a spot. Closes way too early, 10pm. Wifi is consistent and strong. Not sure if I'd come back, the pool and central location is the only redeeming quality here. Sneak in your own beverages and earphones, music on the deck is horrifically terrible. read more

I looked for a couple weeks for a hotel. I checked out reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor and any other website including foreign to help me narrow down where and what we wanted in a hotel. This one won it for me. It is centrally located. It has a pool. It had high ratings and reviews. And the price was right. We got a corner suite which was perfect! It also came with a free bottle of Cava upon arrival (which unfortunately the hotel forgot to give us until the date of check out, and I forgot to mention it). Two things that would have made our stay there alot nicer, besides not getting our free Cava as promised: One was the hot water didn't work on the first morning. But when we returned in the afternoon it was working properly. The second was there was no coffee or tea machine in the room I had read these 2 things in the reviews were complaints but everything else seemed right so we booked. I can't say I'll stay here again, only because Barcelona has so much too offer as far as hotels, apt rentals..... but all in all a pleasant stay :) read more
