We had an amazing stay at hotel Sebastian's. The employees are beyond fantastic. Offered to fill our water and ice from the restaurant. The room was clean and updated. Shower was beautiful. Even when we asked for no room service they left us clean towels on our door when we arrived back. Great smelling ritual soap and shampoo in room. Checked us in very early without any issue. Small mini fridge in the room with beverage for purchase. Cons of our stay: We had a room in the garden/basement which only had one tiny window that was not see through. Rooms are small but it's standard size for Amsterdam. We will definitely return if in Amsterdam read more

I love this boutique hotel. I'd stay here every time I'm in Amsterdam if possible. It's on a quieter canal but so close to the action. Lots of restaurants in short walking distance. I'm obsessed with the little seats in the lowered nook in the canal view rooms. The rooms are small, the bathroom tiny but nothing different from many many places I've stayed in Europe. Cute bar in the lobby. Comfy bed. Nice Nespresso machine in the room. Kitschy bright and festive decor throughout. Hygge AF. I'm a super fan. read more

This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at, anywhere in the world. Located along one of Amsterdam's canals by the Keizersgracht, Hotel Sebastian's is a contemporary, super chic, boutique hotel. The property takes up several brick front row houses and is a real gem. We booked a medium canal view room for a bit higher rate per night and it was worth it -- sort of. There's something cool about waking up and looking out on the water. But we also were technically looking out over a parking lot of sorts since cars can park along the canal (see photos). I really dug the hip decor. It's sort of a romantic, shabby chic, rockstar vibe that was totally cool. The bed was comfy and the bathroom modern. Loved the well equipped rooms, especially the Nespresso machine! The hotel has rooms that are even smaller (without any view), but our room was tiny itself. Not a big deal since most European hotels are cramped compared to American standards. The front desk clerks were friendly enough, but sometimes felt a bit aloof but always helpful when we had questions. It was easy to get around town on foot, and the hotel is in a safe area although it's not in the heart of the tourist district. That may be a plus or minus based on what you're in town to see and how much time you have to visit. Really loved this place and will stay here next time I visit Amsterdam. Even better, it was a super cheap Uber ride from the train station to the hotel too! read more

This place is a so cute. The staff were super sweet. Would definitely stay again. The room we were in had a small quaint garden as well. Looks like a little den area to take in the day. It's located near their central or downtown area and it's walkable to all the shops and eats. Their beds are amazing, everything was clean and we throughly enjoyed our stay. The candles from outside caught my eye. It looks like a romantic cozy well decorated apartment. We were greeted by 3 nice girls were at the reception of the hotel who directed us to the right where the bar was located. There were candles on every table and amazing deer candle along the bar which were gorgeous. The bar lady however wasn't able to make me an old fashion so I took a jack and coke because I didn't wanna make her life more difficult by being a little priss. The hotel is in a fantastic location - walkability to various points of interest was easy and it's removed from the main tourist areas, so it's quiet and quaint. There is a massive number of local restaurants, coffee houses, shops, etc. within a stone's throw, so you can always find a fun place to pop in. I, personally, loved walking down the block to the local coffee shop every morning to get my latte! We were two friends traveling and we opted to book a larger room with a queen bed + twin bed so that we would have more space and be more comfortable - it's Europe, so the rooms are small! If you want a few more feet of square footage, I recommend doing what we did to be comfortable, especially if you are there for a few days. The room and the bathrooms were both spotless - the only negative I would give is that the hair blowdryer was horrible. I would definitely go back - overall magnificent experience. read more

Noting all the 1 star reviews over the past couple years, I was a little hesitant. But glad I booked. If you look carefully, a lot of the complaints are about billing issues around non-refundable reservations. And honestly, if you book a non-refundable reservation to gain the slight discount, and you are shocked that the hotel doesn't provide you with an accommodation, don't be surprised. All websites literally tell you over and over again that it's non-refundable. COVID or force majeure, it's a risk you take as accepting the discounted rate. As an experienced traveler, I almost never book non-refundable unless I'm already mid-trip, and looking to improve the cost of my already made refundable reservation. Anyway, onto a review of the actual hotel. Stayed in mid-Sept for 4 nights in a triple on the ground floor, with a door to the "garden." Location: While definitely in the center of the city, it's still about a 10 min walk to get to the main central street, Damrak. (Additionally about a 10 min walk to Amsterdam Centraal - so if you have heavy bags, take that into consideration). Also, not any trams / buses in the immediate area - about a 7 min walk to the closest bus. That being said, located in a much more neighborhood (re: quiet) area than a busy tourist / hotel heavy area. If you are a walker, great location. If not, might not be great. Cleanliness: Some hotels in Europe can be highly rated, but grungy. Everything from the bathrooms, to the rooms, to the hallways were always in order and free of dust and grunge. So much so, my wife actually pointed it out to me within the first 10 minutes. Service: Hotel staff is located right at the front door and always there with a hello and more than willing to help (I believe they are staffed from 6:30 AM until 11 PM, outside of those hours there is an on-call staffer - need to take note of this number). We typically have our room cleaned every other day and the housekeeping staff did an awesome job. Didn't use the bar or sit in the eating area as we mostly ate out. Warning, they don't serve breakfast anymore (due to COVID), but will serve to your room if you make arrangements the night before (for a fee). Facilities: Overall very well-maintained and clean. The decor is dark colors of purple, red, and black. After the first day, you really don't notice. But color palette is not your typical boring beige on white. read more

Just had another wonderful stay at Sebastian's and have to say this is definitely our go-to Amsterdam hotel We chose a room away from the canal this time and it was incredible! Large and super comfy bed, coffeemaker, teas, fridge, and all the awesome smelly bath products.....free wifi! I'd also like to point out that this room had the absolute best corner shower I've ever experienced in my life.....ever! It was huge with an enormous rain-shower head that totally drenched me but it was also a wand so I could take it down if I wanted. Tons of room to move about - I never hit the shower walls and the drainage system was setup so that not even 1 drop of water got into the bathroom area - it drained down where it should & this has never happened in a hotel bathroom for me before - sorry to gush so, but it really was phenomenal! But best part of our whole stay was their service. Always warmly greeted & asked if we had a good night, if we liked our room, how they could improve our stay (it was perfect already)........ but the best part came in after we checked out We'd forgotten a bunch of cheese in our fridge & didn't realize it until after we already left the hotel.....over 2 hours ago! Would you believe they arranged for housekeeping to secure our cheese & they had it waiting for us when we got back?! I can safely assure you this would never have happened in the US - that cheese would have been gone.....we were incredibly impressed! So for the most convenient, comfortable stay with the kindest & honest people, you can't go wrong at Sebastian's! read more

The staff forgot to give me the number for the night watchman. I was locked out for 30 mins. There is no one on duty at night. At least they should explain this to you at check in. My room also smelled of formaldehyde. They use some horrible cleaning fluid. read more

We stay there 4 days, the location is well situated, not to close too the red light district yet close enough to all the main points of interest. The highlight of our experience there was the receptionist names Felice, I think her name was, a young curly hair blonde who's welcoming warmth and bubbly attitude made you feel completely welcomed every time we entered the hotel. Lovely boutique hotel bordering Jordaan and Centraal area. About 10-15 mins walk from Centraal station. The front desk personnel was very friendly. She suggested some good places to eat. We got the smaller rooms downstairs which was just right for us (we just sleeping there). I know they have larger suites upstairs if you want to really splurge. Rooms were clean and equipped with a Nespresso machine. We were offered a voucher for 2 drinks at their bar. The bar was very warm and modern looking. The hotel was walkable to many places such as Anne Frank's House, Winkel 43, etc. My only issue was that the water pressure in the showers were not as strong as I have liked but maybe that's how they are all setup as the other hotel I stayed was the same. I would definitely come back and stay longer next time. read more

We booked our trip for two rooms in April. We couldn't go because of the pandemic. Reaching out in early March we requested that we move the dates, knowing that we booked a nonrefundable trip and that literally EVERYONE is having compassion. We didn't want our money back, we wanted to stay here when this was over. The response was like everyone else's "we can't help you, but good luck". They also suggested purchasing traveler's insurance after the fact to file a claim, which is fraudulent in the US. Plus travelers insurance does not cover a pandemic. It's easy to be hospitable when it's convenient, but the true character of a company shows when it's hard. Our bad, we booked nonrefundable (which is the only option through their website), but this hotel has no heart. Do not stay here. read more

The hotel is gorgeous! Located on prime real estate as it is walking distance from popular attractions and the metro. The staff is very strict on check in and check out times. The rooms are very cozy but well designed and they have great Air Condition. The breakfast was overpriced and modest in taste... Very light but diverse. We liked this hotel from the moment we walked in the door. The decor is funky and colorful, yet still has an air of elegance. Our room was spacious and nicely furnished. The in-room Nespresso coffee machine with lots of free capsules was an unexpected treat. The bathroom was well stocked with good quality toiletries (shampoo, body wash, moisturizer, etc.) Our room didn't have a canal view, but the window view from our room in the rear of the hotel included several tall trees, which gave a serene and lush ambiance. This hotel offers an inexpensive breakfast buffet that doesn't skimp. There were plenty of eggs, bacon, sausage, as well as a full complement of sides and fruits, plus yogurt and fresh croissants and other breads and pastries. They also offered multiple choices of beverages including juices, coffee, and teas. The kitchen staff were cheerful each morning and imparted a warmth that sticks with you even after you've left. This includes the rest of the hotel staff too. On our first night, we didn't feel up to going out for dinner, so we ordered panini in the bar/dining room, sitting at a table overlooking a canal outdoors. The friendly bar tender prepared our sandwiches expertly and answered questions about the area. Another plus for this hotel is its location. We were able to walk from the Central train station to the hotel with our luggage on wheels in tow. Walking along the streets of Amsterdam is a treat, even with luggage. The hotel is also walking distance to the center of town and to several nearby restaurants and places of interest. The maid service was prompt and thorough each day. There was never an inconvenience. I travel fairly regularly. I have stayed in hotels of every price range, size, and location. Sebastian's ranks as one of my favorites of all time for its overall quality. It's the total package. I have nothing negative to say and would highly recommend this gracious hotel. read more

It is disheartening to find out that even with a Pandemic/ Coronavirus. Sebastian Hotel refuses to make any exceptions on a non refundable ticket I purchased through Hotels.com. Think twice about booking at Sebastian's. Sebastian's is capitalizing on the Coronavirus crisis. They are refusing to modify or change reservations even though travel throughout the world is restricted and nearly impossible. Awful customer service. They are keeping my $1,900 hostage at the Hotel Sebastian's with only one suggestion to get my money back: their suggestion from Eline from reservations was to buy travel insurance after the fact with the intent to cancel, then cancel my reservation, then file a claim with the insurance carrier. This to me is at best unethical, and quite possibly illegal. The most appalling thing about the way this situation was handled was that Eline, even though they were clear that refunds or modifications were out of the question, wanted me to confirm that I would not be showing up, presumably to sell the room I paid for to someone else. Policies like these show that Sebastian's is only out for cash and not their guests. Think twice before booking here. read more

Please reconsider booking this hotel. I booked this hotel months before Covid 19 outbreak. Unfortunately, the virus hit and were unable to travel to the EU due to travel restrictions. As Americans, we literally cannot travel to the EU whatsoever. The hotel refused to refund nearly $400 for two nights stay. This virus is impacting everyone economically and health wise. The least they could do is refund given this situation is out of our control. What a shame! read more

Very disappointed with Sebastian Hotel in Amsterdam on refusing to accommodate my friend and I with a refund or booking for a later date due to an emergency situation. We purchased a stay with a deposit of $1000 through Hotels.com in hopes the hotel would be flexible with their non-refundable policy. Unfortunately, this hotel would not work with us even with proof I was having emergency surgery and could not make this trip. This is not a place I would stay knowing there is no options to work with their patrons when there are unforeseeable situations. We did hope for some act of understanding especially when we are out of significant amount of money due to unexpected event. NOT HAPPY AT ALL WITH THIS HOTEL! This is a great little quaint hotel right on the canal. I agree with the other reviews in that the people at this place are so attentive to your needs. They are always trying to help you. I've stayed at a Ritz-Carlton that didn't provide anything near this level of help. The front desk recommend restaurants and called to make reservations. They even called four places on a Saturday night with the same happy demeanor. The rooms are European. Small but nice. We stayed in 229 facing the canal. Our room had exposed timbers in the sitting area. I did have to duck a bit but it added to the charm of the place. We were here for five nights and highly recommend the place. I looked endlessly at all the hotels available in Amsterdam within a certain perimeter and price range and for some reason kept happening on Sebastian's! Boy and I glad I did! The hotel is warm and welcoming, the staff extremely attentive to special requests. Our room was intimate with a lovely canal view which we enjoyed immensely when we were not our scouring the city with all its beauty. I was particularly amazed to come back to our room to receive a bottle of bubbly with a personal note from the owners in honour of my birthday. Great hotel with all sorts of room size and budget with world class service! Stayed here 2 nights. Really friendly and engaging staff and food is really good here too! It's close proximity to Amsterdam Centraal Station and surrounding attractions make this an ideal hotel. You can also rent bicycles from the hotel at reasonable prices. The staff even helped me buy the Van Gogh and Rijks Museum tickets at no extra charge. Highly recommend this place as a must see and must experience! read more

My husband and I spent three nights at Sebastian's. The staff was excellent, friendly and accommodating. The room was on the small side but was certainly large enough for two people and two suitcases. The room featured big windows that opened over the canal. The location was an easy walk from the train station, museums and nightlife, but seemed to also be in a quieter upscale neighborhood. We can't wait to visit again. read more

I agree with the reviewers here, it is precisely the customer service that makes this hotel 5 star to me...after missed flights and missing luggage and exhausting travel from US to Europe to arrive in the rain six hours late and to be greeted by "I was worried about you" still brings me to tears nearly a year later. We were told there would be "complimentary drinks" for us after we put our luggage in our room. When we arrived in the bar we were greeted by the bartender who said "I hear you had a long flight"..
