Complimentary water!
I-Lin L.

Coming from Switzerland, I found it a bit ironic that my bf chose the Swissôtel Amsterdam for our first stay in Amsterdam. But it was centrally located right on Dam Square in the middle of the historic center and only a short walk from the main train station. The room was nice and modern, as expected for a 4-star luxury hotel. They cater well to English-speaking tourists, and I liked how the guy at reception recommended a nice steak restaurant for dinner in the neighborhood where he lives--which was outside of the typical touristy area. However, the receptionist made a big show about choosing the "perfect" room for us--and although it was blatantly obvious that we were a couple--we wound up with a room with two little beds!! :O I understand that many hotels in Europe have two twins pushed together instead of a king bed, but please... in a 4-star hotel? I would have expected them to be more accommodating. They didn't even have those bed joiner thingy-ma-jingys, so it was impossible for two adults to cuddle on the bed together without the two beds spreading farther and farther apart. So much for a romantic weekend with my hunny bunny. :/ This is a non-smoking hotel, so you get fined for smoking. PROS: I did like how there were complimentary apples in the room on the first night and Lindt chocolates on the bed during turn-down service. Yum. And they also provided complimentary bottles of water in the room each day, which I thought was a nice touch. At the reception, they had carafes of flavored water in the morning, and it was refreshing to get a glass of mint or lime water before heading on out. CONS: Although the bathroom was modern, the shower/tub had one of those half-walls, so water got all over the place when one took a shower. I've really never understood who came up with this design and why some modern hotels have it. It's completely impractical and just completely soaks the floor. Also, I had a little tube of Neosporin that I put on the shelf near the kettle, and one day it disappeared after our room was cleaned! I have no idea what happened to it, and I wondered if the cleaning staff took it or misplaced it when cleaning our room. I looked and looked and couldn't find it. And I'm pretty sure I didn't move it from that shelf. Was kind of upset because I brought it from the U.S. months ago, and I don't think you can buy that in Europe. Didn't bother to complain to hotel staff about it, but I was pretty disappointed.

Great stay! I stayed here for the last night of my business trip to Amsterdam and they truly offered the best price/value of my three stops. While not as luxurious as The Grand, the room here was huge, clean and had all the ammenities of the others. Front-desk staff was super friendly. Everything is within walking distance, and if I found myself back in Amsterdam this would be my top pick.

The location was beautiful and it was super easy to come outside and sit by the canal. It was also the only place I visited in Europe with awesome air conditioning. Everyone I interacted with there was professional, helpful, and friendly. Unfortunately, the good service at the front desk didn't extend to the rest of the hotel. The bar and Lotti's restaurant were both consistently understaffed, and the service was extremely slow. Lotti's also seemed to be out of a lot of the main dishes, even though the menu is already pretty limited. As for the rooms, they were okay, but felt a little worn and could really use some updating. Nothing terrible, but for what the hotel charges, I think you should be able to expect a bit more comfort and quality. After checking out the W Hotel nearby, which was much nicer for a similar price, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. For nearly $4500 after taxes for three nights in two rooms at the Hoxton, I honestly felt a bit cheated. Again, the front desk team deserves credit, but overall, I think the Hoxton needs to step up its game to justify these rates.

The restaurant bar seemed very quiet and pretentious. We didn't try the restaurant, but we heard it was quite good. With a nicer room and more time in the city, I'd happily return. Since the cruise…read morecompany covered the cost of the stay, it's probably not a hotel we would have selected on our own given the rates. The hotel itself is quite unique, consisting of a collection of historic canal houses connected together along one of Amsterdam's beautiful canals. The property has a lot of character and charm that you won't find in a typical luxury hotel. Service throughout our stay was personable and attentive. The standout feature for me was the hotel's bar located toward the rear of the property. If you're a fan of Old Fashioneds, be sure to try their version--it was one of the highlights of our visit. One thing prospective guests should be aware of is the noise level. Due to the age and construction of the historic buildings, sound insulation is virtually nonexistent. We could easily hear noise from neighboring rooms and hallways, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs or consider another option. Overall, the Pulitzer offers a distinctive Amsterdam experience with excellent service and a fantastic bar, but the lack of soundproofing may be a concern for some guests.

The room was definitely on the compact/modern side--typical for European city hotels--but beautifully appointed and very sleek. On the smaller side though. The absolute standout feature was the private balcony. The view overlooking the lively square, historic architecture, and tree-lined streets of Leidseplein was great! The hotel itself is an absolute stunner. The blend of historic Art Deco charm and modern boutique touches is executed so well. From the grand staircase with red floral carpeting and stained glass to the dark, art-filled hallways, every corner feels photogenic. We grabbed drinks at the bar and restaurant area, and the ambiance here is elite. Magnificent vaulted arches, plush red and emerald velvet seating, warm brass accents, and massive stained-glass windows that let in incredible light. It's an amazing spot to sit back, unwind, and sip a cocktail. You can't beat Leidseplein--trams right outside, easy walking access to the museums, canals, and nightlife. Whether you're booking a room or just stopping by for a drink at the bar, it's well worth a visit!

At any rate, my experience was great. Tasteful and elegant deco atmosphere. People singing in the street at 2:00 am, but that's Leidesplein. Chalk it up as part of the experience.

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!
