LOCATION: 5 stars- Next door to shops and dining, directly across from the beach, 10 minute walk from the Catalina Flyer dock.
CLEANLINESS: 4 stars- It's obviously an old building with outdated fixtures and furniture, but it was clean.
COMFORT: 3 stars- The beds are basic, no pillow top, no memory foam, but not totally uncomfortable; we're just used to our CK memory foam at home. Sheets are clean, plenty of towels, hairdryer. Small sink, no counter space but has a tiny tiny vanity shelf. Shower is 4ft x 4.5ft (I counted the tiles), with a showerhead way too low for anyone taller than 5'. There is no space in the shower to place your toiletries; I had to set mine on the sink and constantly open the shower door whenever I needed to grab something (soap, razor, shampoo, etc). There is a closet with hangers and a chest drawer, 2 luggage racks, a desk with 2 chairs, one nightstand, a/c, ceiling fan, tv. Only found two available outlets in the bedroom/living area, for this reason we always bring our own power strip when we travel. We were on the second level; ceiling/floor is thin, we could hear little kids running and screaming from above us, but we did not hear our neighbors next door or any street noise (a few years ago we stayed closer inland and heard the zipping of golf carts ALL NIGHT!). Some rooms have a beach view, ours did not. Our view was of the the shared little patio area with tables & chairs.
STAFF: Nice.
AMENITIES: Free bag check where you can store your belongings prior to check in or after check out. No fridge, no freezer, no microwave. There are vending machines for drinks, but no snacks. Ice machine available. We arrived early and our room was not ready, but there was a community bathroom within the complex where we were able to change our clothes (and quick shower or rinse if needed). They offer complimentary beach towels. Due to CV-19 they no longer serve free breakfast, instead they replace it with a $5 voucher per person (we got 4 vouchers but there were only 3 of us) to use a few doors down at Llyod's (coffee, pastries, juice, ice cream); it must be used at one time, you cannot save credits for later. Free wifi, but a very weak signal; throughout the island my phone (Samsung Galaxy, Verizon 5G) was constantly searching for a connection so my battery would drain within a couple hours even on stand-by, I eventually left it on airplane mode to preserve the battery (note: you won't get incoming calls/texts on airplane mode). Bring a portable battery!! I recommend screen shotting maps, locations, tickets, vouchers, etc prior to arriving on the island.
THOUGHTS: It was a decent stay but I would pick another hotel next time bc of the size of the shower (too small), and bed (I needed 2 queens but there were only 2 fulls available). Other things such as design & decor are not important factors to me when traveling. Anything more than a one night stay and I think your comfort level will decrease significantly. We stayed only one night [8.2020], room 216. read more
