Im a little late on this but this is review well deserved.
I was a little apprehensive at the thought of staying in a hostel in Europe, mainly thanks to Eli Roth's Hostel but since I was on a very limited budget I didnt really have much of a choice. The price was just too appealing and the reviews on Hostel Bookers made it the right choice. For the entire week and a half that my brother and I were in Europe, our stay totaled $202, which is just a bout the same as one night in an average hotel in the bay area.
HANDS DOWN, the best customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. The employees there were humble, extremely helpful, knowledgable and oh so friendly, absolutely nothing like I had imagined they'd be. Ali, was especially wonderful. He answered our questions on local eateries, which route was best to take, which places to avoid and any/all of our silly American inquiries.
Every morning they offer breakfast and after almost 19 hours of nonstop traveling my brother and I were FAMISHED. I was expecting the traditional bacon and eggs breakfast we're so used to in America so at first I was a little surprised, but in no way disappointed. This is Europe after all. They served us each some Italian coffee (or espresso, depending on your request), a delightful orange juice unlike anything I've ever had (which tasted more like a sweet mandarin juice) and a heaping pile of pastries filled with marmalade or Nutella. You can eat in the common room downstairs or the lovely garden in back. I don't believe tipping is common there since we left a couple euros each time and the pleasant older gentleman came back quite surprised, every time.
Rooms were always clean and we were fortunate enough to not have any rowdy roomies. I believe there is one bathroom per floor, also very clean. The Metro and bus stations are a brief 10-15 minute walk north and there are plenty of restaurants and gelaterias within walking distance. Word of advice though, be careful on the Metro where pickpockets prey on unsuspecting tourists, like ourselves.
Overall, if you're ever planning a trip to Rome and are a budget or simply want the hostel experience, check this place out. They will NOT disappoint and will leave a lasting impression. read more
