I stayed here for its location. I called to book it after seeing it online for one price but the front desk told me his computer wasn't working so he advised me to come in and book in person. I showed up 15 min later to be told that rate wasn't available because he booked someone 10 min ago for that last rate .. then advised my family to enjoy the bar when I had small kids with us, only to be told they won't serve us at the bar unless we present vaccine cards??? I can go on and on but this place isn't worth the pretentious hipster energy they are trying to create read more

Eh, if you are looking for a good night's sleep...look for a hotel to the east of I5. Hotel Leo is def centrally located in Bellingham, basically an historic, older property that has been updated/remodeled. At best it is a 3 star...assumming you have one of the newer rooms on the 1st floor. Unfortunatley our booking placed us on the 3rd floor in the older section. The room was small, no seating other than on ottoman (?) and the sound of the radiator pipes banging non-stop drove us nuts, so we asked to be moved. The ear plugs in the bathroom should have been a dead giveaway. The clerk was accommodating and stated that the banging was either the radiator pipes or the ghosts that reside in the hotel (not kidding). She moved us for an upcharge of $15 to a larger, more modern room on the mezzanine level the window of which faced an alley and a parking lot. In the parking area outside our window, around 9:30PM, there was a loud argument that went on for about 30 mins. Maybe the ghosts were arguing about proper scare tactics, idk, but we never really got to sleep after that. We were then startled early in the morning by a loud explosion in the same lot. Maybe the ghosts were playing with explosives. We got up after that and left. read more

Second time staying at Hotel Leo and this stay was even better than before! My husband and I booked a last minute long weekend to Bellingham to escape from Seattle. I picked Hotel Leo due to location and price. This is the BEST for walking to everything in Bellingham. Also, plenty of parking reserved just for hotel guests. On this particular stay we booked the economy room (small, but only ~$100/night and really has everything you need). Dogs can also join for an additional $25.00 flat fee per pet. The only request is that you cannot leave your pet unattended in the room. We checked in a bit later than expected due to some traffic and stopping along the way. Check in was easy as they are now using a no-contact check in with an app that gives you a digital key. When we arrived to our provided room, it was clear that it was not cleaned from the prior guests. Sheets were removed from the bed and the trash cans we full. We went down to the lobby and the guy working the desk that evening was SO NICE. He apologized about a million times and began to set up our new room. Due to the inconvenience, he upgraded us (for free!) to the Grand - Full Kitchen, room. WOW! This room is honestly bigger than a lot of apartments i've rented. A nice kitchen fully equipped with everything you need. The living room includes a very comfortable pull out couch and a lot of room to lounge around. Like all other rooms, it includes an amazingly comfortable king sized bed with super soft sheets. This surprised room change gave us the perfect get away for social distancing. We were able to grab some great local take out and enjoy it in this spacious suite. thanks to all the great staff at Hotel Leo can't wait to return! read more

We used to LOVE Hotel Leo, as San Juan islanders who need a bit of city now and then... the downtown location and historical style were our jam, and the price was right! Alas, several years and a vile pandemic later, things are less rosy. We are moderate budget weekenders, so the retro ambience and lower cost of the "old wing" were well worth the mild amount of street noise (and the old knocking radiators, which I kind of miss, actually!)... and the laughably small postage stamp area they have for parking, in a hotel that pouses many times more guests than there are spaces. Weekend street parking is *usually* available right nearby, after all. But to not have enough electrical outlets (in 2022!!) and closets completely devoid of hangers is pretty sad, given how the per night cost has gone up in the past few years. This is a place to stay the night, not to luxuriate endlessly in the utilitarian little rooms, but the most basic amenities are important, if you want guests to feel like their needs are met and they'd like to return. We'll keep coming back unless prices jack up too high (the central location is the Ace card), but with less enthusiasm than in times past. It's been a tough few years everywhere, and this place feels like it's taken a hit. Good for them for hanging in there, and I hope they can bounce back to where they were 3 years ago when we became fans. read more

We couldn't have had a more pleasant stay at Hotel Leo. The staff were pleasant and helpful at every interaction. They helped us have a beautiful anniversary weekend. The bed was comfy, and there was a varied selection of pillows to choose from. Their little movie theater made for fun evening in. We will definitely be back. read more

This was a very unique hotel experience. It's not a typical hotel. The building is older yet the decor is modern which is odd but it's still very clean and sleek. We had a digital jet and text message concierge. Whoever was texting was always incredibly nice when we had questions. They had a great no contact system for COVID and a reasonable price for being right downtown. I would stay there again. read more

Easily the worst hotel room I've ever experienced and your talking to someone who has traveled the globe. Was more like a hostel. Room had no chairs, no desk, bathroom is the size of a broom closet. One electrical outlet. Bed is basically a mattress practically on the floor. I needed a refrigerator for medicine but mini frig temp is over 50, so had to hunt down ice to even keep my meds cold. I called about a room change and got the story that it would be $150 per night to move to another and that would require going up steps, which I can't navigate, but then no one even bothered to offer to help. STAY AWAY, whomever is writing the glowing reviews for this place I have my doubts. I walked 2 floors and heard not a soul and only saw maybe 2 couples board elevators. I am seriously pissed off - this hotel is running a scam with a couple cheap crappy rooms and then a handful of outrageously priced "suites". It's sad because this was supposed to be a nice renno to an old aging downtown property, and the public rooms aren't terrible -- but I've been in plenty of boutique hotels like this that actually knew what they were doing, these people don't. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here last minute on a mini vacation while visiting the San Juan Islands. Our original Air BnB fell through so we had to find a hotel one late afternoon. The price was a bit high for the type of hotel room but I'd say overall it was a decent place. The decor was a bit minimalistic compared to what they boast online. The paper mache decorations were interesting and the four by four glossy prints on the huge walls were oddly placed. The large bed was very cozy and the room came with an electric tea kettle, french press and plenty of coffee. The shower had great shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers. There was also a fridge, sink and microwave. The reason I didn't give this hotel five stars was four reasons: there was no phone in the room, the modem and wiring was sitting on the floor, no screen on the window, and breakfast was not included. I do want to add that the man at the front desk was very welcoming, friendly and helpful so that definitely gives the place my vote! read more

Stayed here during a business trip over the weekend. I didn't arrive until after midnight for checking in, but after calling them to let them know, they had me download a remote key app that worked great! The Basic Studio I had was everything I needed! The bed was amazing, the bathroom was sooo nice (glass standup shower) and it had a desk for me to work at, and a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, coffee/tea brew, sink and dishes. If I return to Bellingham again, this will be my first choice! read more

We had a one beer and and an Irish coffee in the bar at the hotel a month ago and our Visa was charge $379. We figured it out in a few days later and called back and was told that the manager Robbie would call us back to remedy. We called back each week and was told it was being worked on (a manager told us that there was an email triail about it) and we would be credited. It is now three weeks later and still no action. Nice redo, but way too noisy. Cornwall St. has venue directly across from Leo. Really loud rave event going on until 1:30am during our stay. Hallway noise enters every room loudly at all hours. Cleaning staff left our room door ajar during our absence of the day and we returned to find it open and unlocked. Only first three floors of property are the hotel itself yet. Upper floors with better views (though not indicated in web site or advertising) are private apartments. read more

Very comfortable king mattress, I slept like a baby. The aesthetic of the entire hotel was amazing. Great art on the walls of the room and in the lobby which created an amazing modern feel inside an older historic building. Friendly and helpful staff made everything easy. Walking distance from plenty of bars and food options open late into the night. Over all an awesome experience while staying in Bellingham! I would for sure stay here again :) read more
