It's a bit confusing where to park as I don't like to do valet and it's a walk from the garage to the hotel. I made the mistake of going to the back where the pool is following an employee. Then realized I needed to walk back down and around to the entrance to check in. The hotel is beautiful and gives the feel of being in the Italian countryside. The lobby is welcoming and the flowers look real even though they're artificial. The bar is very welcoming and good vibes all around. My friend and I had a bit of a staycation and found the room clean, spacious and loved the kitchenette and comfortable bed. A complimentary bottle of wine and water was a nice touch. We could actually enjoy the bottle with wince glasses. The bathroom was spacious but a shower only. I opted to leave my phone in the room to really focus on the present and not scrolling on my phone. So sadly no pictures. We booked massages in the spa. I've been to many hotel spas and this set up was rather disjointed and confusing. Coming out of the elevator (which was decorated with a Tuscan painting on the back wall) the spa shop was there but the door was locked and nobody inside. We waited for a bit until a woman saw us and came from down the hall to check us in. We had booked online and upgraded to a deep tissue massage. While the charge was there, it didn't seem to convey to her screen. She finally said okay just head down the hall, you're all checked in. So we go down the hall and find the door to the spa and really didn't know where to go. One of our therapists came out and handed us a paper to fill out as we sat on the lounge chairs and then said we could go into the dressing room to change into a robe and put our things in the lockers. We arrived an hour early to possibly enjoy the sauna or steam shower but weren't told anything. So we came back out in our robes, barefoot and filled out the short consent form and waited. There were a couple of ladies who had finished their facials or whatever service and were chairing....yet we sat there waiting for some guidance. My therapist was Hilary. The table was comfortable but not heated and she demonstrated a drop for your boobs which was interesting and a nice touch and turned on the heated table but it wasn't ever really warm. It was not by any means a deep tissue massage. More what I call a fluff and buff. I felt like I was being massaged by a massage student applying oil but didn't really wanting to touch me. I kept saying you can go deeper and use your elbows but she didn't. What she massaged on one side wasn't the same routine on the other. I think the massage was only about 45 minutes long. The hot towels were a nice touch but she kept walking away for long gaps in-between. She seemed distracted. Then after the massage, she mentioned the sauna and other amenities but at that point we had dinner reservations and needed to get ready in the room. So sadly had to decline as that should've been offered in the beginning and then the therapist come and collect us when it was time for our appointment. Maybe a tour of the spa and a better explanation should've been offered. After we got changed, once again nobody was in the shop part to check out. For the price, the service was not worth it. Same woman came from down the hall and came in and had trouble with the check out and charge. So fantastic hotel and amenities but the spa needs room for improvement. Especially since most guests have never been there before and from out of town. That's why I couldn't give a full 5 stars.

Shoutout to Patrick and his cheerful demeanor. The views of the hill country are also quite a delight in the mornings/evenings. Moving on to what surprised us. When compared to the awe-inspiring depictions online, the hotel is lacking considerably. Carpet stains and surprisingly dull rooms seemed out of place for a luxury property. Beyond the charm of the front entrance and lobby, you seem to enter another hotel that isn't quite up to date. Further, some of the staff at the front desk weren't particularly friendly. We'd also called ahead in the morning requesting accommodations like hypoallergenic pillows, but when we arrived, it seemed no one had any record of our call. a bit odd for a luxury property. All in all, it wasn't a stellar experience by any measure. Would we return? Not so sure. There's a lot of promise here. There's also a great deal of work that needs to be done for the luxury aesthetic that Hotel Viata advertises to actually materialize.

This hotel has a vibe, as most Bunkhouse hotels do. I appreciated the large-format concert photo prints in the room I stayed in, tying things back to the "Live Music Capital of the World." The city view room layout took some getting used to, mostly because the sink is located outside the area where you have the toilet and shower. I see the logic in doing so if you're sharing a room, though, but it made for some awkward hand maneuvering out of the pocket door area. As for noise, I didn't have any issues sleeping, but in the early morning, you will hear trucks (likely merchandise for the Music Lane shops or trash collection). There was one night that I came back from dinner, and the courtyard had a wedding party, which you could hear from the 4th floor. Maybe consider a white noise app if you're a light sleeper. The staff at this hotel is so incredibly nice and accommodating. It's the main reason I rated the hotel 4 out of 5 stars. If you know Spanish, it may come in handy. I think the misses are minor. Not all rooms come with an iron, which I get if you have 50+ rooms; that is a lot of irons people might not be using. It's not a big deal to have the front desk send one up, but it is just a basic Conair. I would've liked to have a gym on-site, too. On my second-to-last night, I called an Uber to get me to a work dinner. For some reason, it had the driver cut through the parking garage, so the guy gave up and parked outside of Lululemon. Keep an eye out on the map and let the driver know it's best to take the light instead. Bonus: Equipment Room is the basement record listening bar, but be sure to make a reso.

He told me that we could not cancel the first night, but we could cancel the second night. When we checked in, I asked the young lady working at the front desk about the cancellation. Nafees wasn't available, but she assured us that the second night would be cancelled. When we checked out on Saturday morning, I again asked to speak to Nafees; he wasn't available. This second (different) front desk lady told us that the second night would be cancelled. I got a bill emailed to me. Arrive did not cancel the second night. To my surprise, not only was I billed for the second night, they also charged an "early checkout" fee for the night that was supposed to be canceled. On top of it all, it was $50 to park off property for one night. The room was small and awkward. And on the morning, we were woken up by a massive crowd outside our windows. They had a microphone and music going while they did group yoga/pilates. The refusal to accommodate a reasonable request to cancel a reservation that had been made only a few hours earlier says more about the establishment than any person ever could. Charging extra fees to a customer you told could cancel their second reserved night is not only unethical, it is devious; it is fraudulent. A complaint has been filed through the FTC fraud reporting portal. Reading other reviews lets me know, sadly, that I'm in good company. I'd stay far from this place.

We had a clean and tidy suite on the first level. Two double beds were comfy and plenty of towels. Our first night's stay was decent. Surprised to know they seem to use softened water because it made our skin feel slippery. I noticed the shower gel holder was falling out of the wall. A precarious situation of having to carefully pull the mechanism to dispense without pulling too hard. I did notify the night staff but the next day, it didn't seem like anyone came to fix it. No extra body wash or soap was provided even when I asked for some. The wall sockets with the en-suite appliances was not usable. The electrical outlets weren't working so we couldn't toast anything, use the kettle, or the coffee machine. Couldn't find one with a GFCI breaker to reset that side so gave up. Interestingly, the full-sized fridge and microwave were working ok though. The rod for one of the window curtains fell off while opening them. Because it's floor to ceiling we just left it alone. The common spaces around the property are well decorated, from the Library, Executive board room, kids corner, gym/yoga studio, and outdoor lounge space. Although, the snack/tea/coffee station with Keurig isn't filled maintained often. We had to ask the night staff to refill the water for tea and the lobby water dispenser was constantly low as well. On our second to last day, I found the hot water and still water station downstairs at Simona's. Pros: Clean, comfy, affordable stay. Enjoyed the bottomless drip coffee $5 and their signature Breakfast at Tiffany's latte. Also appreciated them letting us do late checkout and upgrade our room. Cons: Complimentary water station, Keurig / snack station, overall maintenance of room amenities could be handled better. Warning: If booking from 3rd party (BILT, Capital One Portal...) the added parking is not the same price that's on Colton's House's website. It's actually $40/day (with in/out privileges). However if booking directly through Colton House for stays, parking is 50% off at $20. Would we stay here again in the future? Most likely not. For an SLH property, we may look for another better-maintained option in the future.
