We are usually not the types to write reviews, but we found the Hotel Delfino to be so warm and lovely that we just had to share our experience with the world.
We arrived at the Hotel Delfino in mid-September of 2015 after a long day of driving from La Spezia. On our way, we accidentally made a wrong turn and ended up driving thru Napoli for a spell. Now, if I could describe what driving in Napoli is like in 1 word, it would be OhMyGodWeAreGoingToDie. This 1 mile detour in Napoli took us over an hour and was incredibly stressful. If you are a fan of combat driving and have a strong dislike for traffic laws, you might enjoy this route, but for us it was a little much (although I suspect that Megan took some sick pleasure in maneuvering thru the chaos).
Anyway, by the time we arrived at the hotel we were exhausted and strung out from the drive. We walked thru the door and were immediately greeted by Gianifranco. He instantly put us at ease, checked us in, and took good care of us. We could feel the stress start to melt away.
Our room was simple and nice, nothing over the top, except for the amazing view of the Bay of Sorrento and the Isle of Capri from our balcony. We drank in the sunset for a few minutes before deciding that we needed food and wine stat! We were told that there were 2 restaurants on the property, one inside with a fixed menu, and one on the pool terrace with an a la cart menu. We headed for the terrace restaurant.
This restaurant was lovely, and just what the doctor ordered. The decor was classy and modern with soft lighting, an open air feel, views of the lights of Capri and Napoli, and the sound of the ocean against the rocks below. We were greeted with warm smiles by Giovanni and Mossimo, who took great care of us our entire time at the hotel. They always called us by our names and greeted us with hugs and handshakes the entire trip. Giovanni always took the time to talk with us, and also made great wine and food recommendations from the menu (the beef tartare and Nero Del Tasso wine from 2003 make an unforgettable combination)! While we ate I noticed Mossimo constantly surveying the room, making sure the everything was of the utmost quality. A true service professional, quickly and quietly taking care of the patrons, and making sure that everyone was having the best possible experience.
During our stay we wanted to take a few day trips to Capri and Amalfi. We talked with Giannifranco and Marco at the front desk, and they took care of all the details. They were incredibly friendly and helpful our entire stay. They worked tirelessly to find us a driver to take us to Amalfi, even when it seemed like all the drivers were booked (they found us Tony, who was an amazing driver! We are going to write a review of him as well because he was top notch luxuservice@gmail.com).
We spent some time at the pool during our stay which was very nice, big, clean, and had a lovely view. We made friends with other guests and were helped poolside by another Mossimo who was kind and genuine. We also followed the steps down to the private cove below the pool, and spent time sunbathing on the rocks and swimming in the crystal clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. This little cove was magical!
When it came time for us to leave the Hotel Delfino and head back to Oregon, we packed up our things and made our way to the front desk at 3am to catch our flight in Naples. To our delight, we had breakfasts packed and waiting for us at the desk. Again, the staff was very helpful and friendly, even at 3am. Needless to say, we were very sad to leave.
Although the rooms at the Hotel Delfino are nice, what really makes this place special are the people, the natural beauty, and the quality of the food and service. We would recommend this place to anyone who is thinking of staying in or near Sorrento. While you are there please say hello to the staff from us! read more
