Giovanni the barman
Jase K.

Our surprise at the Continental was two-fold. Firstly it was elegant and quaint yet sophisticated and with a commanding view of the coast. Second was the barman Giovanni who made time pass for us in awe with his mastery of his craft & conversation. Make this a mandatory stop in your travels abroad and take their advice on dinners!!

This hotel is in a great location and very central to restaurants, nightlife, and the harbor. We walked from our ferry to the hotel (with an elevator/lift ride in between for one euro). This took about 5 min. Omg the view from the rooftop bar is amazing!!!! 5 stars for that alone!! The rooftop bar also has happy hour from 6:30-8ish with decent drink prices and complimentary snacks (cheese, crackers, fruit, French fries, chips). Go at sun set/rise for the best view! The rooms are a little dated, but very clean and spacious. Our bed was actually two single beds pushed together. Don't know if all the rooms are like that or if they just ran out when they got to our room! They have colored floor tiles which adds a little Italian charm. I was excited to see all of room goodies that are provided (floss, toothbrush, toothpaste, shave kit, shoe cleaner, slippers, etc.)! I would not recommend paying extra for an interior balcony bc the view is of your neighbors and the balcony's are super close to one another. It would be worth it to pay extra for that sea view! The breakfast buffet was on point. The food options went on and on and on! Tons of fruit, breads, pastries, waffles, pancakes, Nutella, cereal, meats, cheeses, eggs, etc. We ate so much! They have a swimming pool, hot tub, gym, and spa. For a couple of cost $45 euros for 75 min in the spa. It was very relaxing and a good value for the money. Staff was polite and very attentive during our whole stay. This hotel was pretty affordable and we really enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend this place for a holiday in Sorrento.

Dirty walls

This is an outrageously overpriced hotel that is in disrepair. If you like hotels that MIGHT have been 4 stars 40 years ago, based on 1970's amenities and decor, then maybe you'd like it here. Within 5 minutes of arriving, 4 different employees swarmed us to "help" in different ways that would, in their mind, warrant tips. This was a constant throughout the trip. The walls are PAPER THIN, and ALL NIGHT AND MORNING you hear everything from other travelers coughing and screaming to hotel staff and their insanely loud walkie talkies in the hotel. The power went out three different times during our 4 night stay. The paint was peeling in multiple spots in our room. Our curtains appeared to have blood on them (check pictures). The toilet only flushed if you were able to practice and perfect a "triple push" technique. The shower, by virtue of having very little protection around it, flooded the bathroom every time it was used. AND, don't forget the tips, like when for example two employees showed up at our door while one of us was showering to offer us towels, chocolates, and the next day's forecast. Great opportunity for more tips! On the upside, the location is good.

The veranda restaurant seemed like the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. However... the experience was very disappointing. The waitstaff was very inattentive overall (awful service), the waitress was rude and our food arrived more than one hour after we were seated, which was 15 minutes later than our reservation. Late in the evening.. not even during peak dining hours. The food lacked flavor and was overall inferior. The prawns smelled and tasted as if they were not fresh. The pasta was thick and flavorless and not consistent with other wonderful food we had experienced thus far. Overall not happy. If it weren't for the beautiful atmosphere and view, there would be ZERO reason to eat here. Do as someone else suggested which was to enjoy the sunset with drinks here and eat somewhere else!

I could live on the restaurant veranda by the sea! Or the patio. Just exquisite with the canaopy of lemon leaves, the marble inlaid floors, the statues, white tables - all designed to not compete or distract from the view! As the name implies, it's so very serene. Definitely on the high end so if your budget can't afford a week, spend two nights here. That's what I did before meeting friends for the remainder of my time in Sorrento. Since the next four days were full of touring different towns on the Amalfi coast, a boat ride to Capri and the Blue Grotto, and Pompei, I joined them at a different hotel that was more affordable since we basically were just sleeping and showering there. But for my first two days in Sorrento when I wanted to just chill and take in the beauty of this magnificent part of Italy, I chose Hotel Bellevue Syrene and I already want to come back!

I drove in down a long pathway and was able to park in close proximity to the entrance. The security guard notified the front desk so they greeted my outside. The porter took my bags inside. I had arrived before check-in time so I had some time to explore the property before seeing my room. The garden area outside is very nice! I was told that the hotel would be closing for winter in a few days time and that is was slow. Since they did not have high occupancy, they upgraded me for free from a garden view to an ocean view. After 30 minutes or so the room was ready and I was escorted to see the room. It was quite impressive as there was the room itself but had a "sitting room" next it is so it was basically a suite. There was a door to the balcony that had a table for two and an ocean view. We were provided with a complimentary bottle of wine and a Panettone loaf. The room was nice an had everything except for a coffee maker. There was no hot water pitcher either. The bathroom had a toilet where the seat was not aligned to the toilet which is scary for a man as a pinched ball sack would not be good. This property is right next to Piazza Tasso which is the main square and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. There is a bar onsite as well as a Michelin starred restaurant called Terrazza Bosquet. The restaurant was good and the staff were amazing, front desk, concierge, bell staff and restaurant staff. Customer Service is a big priority here. A few small tweaks needed but was a five star experience!

Our room was a suite with two balconies, and a picturesque view of the sea and Mt Vesuvius. Our room felt secluded and private. Beautiful and comfortable sofa and chairs in the room with all the bathroom amenities you would want. We would love to come back and spend more than the four nights we were there! I would highly recommend the hotel installing some safety features in the shower, as it is very slippery and there are no rails in the shower to hold on to. I would imagine someone has probably slipped. The breakfast was enjoyable and relaxing, the omelet maker girl was very nice! We really enjoyed walking the grounds including the cave to the waterside. It was a beautiful pool and very relaxing with drinks. I would also recommend the hotel accommodate travelers who would like to mail a post card and do it for them. Most hotels will mail it and even put the postage on the card. I would also recommend water to be handed out at the concierge or lobby desk for NO CHARGE. We had to pay 7 euros for one large bottle. We have stayed at other hotels and they just ask how many boxes of water we would like. This hotel is close walking into town, we would definitely go back!

Italian law says they must fix items destroyed because of their property but they will do nothing to help. The rudeness of the 3 women at front is horrific. We were even told about how specific the owner is that things are kept up nice and you have a good experience but she must not realize how horrible her staff is . The main lobby has neon sky blue furniture - I didn't even know sky blue could be neon - and it's a bit rough on the eyes! My room was large, had a mini fridge and a small balcony which I enjoyed every morning and evening. My balcony looked out over the pool which was lovely. The bed was very hard and low to the ground, pillows hard and flat. The curtains were hanging off the rod and never fixed in the 7 days I was there. And one day they completely forgot to clean my room and provide fresh towels. The safe didn't work. And there was a tiny tv in an armoir. so definitely not luxurious accommodations, just the basics. Breakfast on the fifth floor was also basic, like a continental spread at a Best Western in the U.S. It filled you up but there was not anything that stood out other than the incredible view of the Bay. If you are fortunate enough to get a room with that view, it could be worth staying. The star of the hotel is the pool out back. It's huge and beautiful with lots of chairs around the sides, an outdoor cafe area and indoor bar. Now I was there mid October and while Sorrento was having unseasonable warm 80 degree weather, the pool was a bit cold. In the summer months I'm sure this place is hopping. That being said, the hotel is affordable and in a very convenient location with easy walking distance to Piazzo Tasso and all the shops, cafes and restaurants that Sorrento has to offer. Within just one block, you can dine at two fabulous restaurants serving incredibly delicious food at completely reasonable prices - $10 pasta and a glass of wine for $5. Both are worth visiting even with the long lines: La Cantinaccia del Popolo and La Locanda del Gusto. The hotel is on the Main Street so you hear traffic, especially if you leave balcony door open. If you are seeking an affordable hotel knowing that you will be out and about most of the time, Grand Hotel Flora is fine. If you are seeking a hotel along the Gulf of Naples with incredible views, a restaurant, gym, spa and other features and modern conveniences, look for one of the grander hotels along Via Correale. Since I was on my own for several days and then meeting up with friends staying at the Grand Flora, I booked my room here. Would I come back? Maybe. But Sorrento is so gorgeous that if I returned, I would go the extra splurge and stay at a legit 4 or 5* Hotel and live la dolce vita. I already have the hotel picked ou!

Ok, first off the food is excellent, from the homemade pasta's to the truffle prime steak. The free breakfast that they provide is one of the best I've had in a hotel, not necessarily because of the food, which compares to other breakfasts, but it's the incredible staff that greets you at the door as soon as you arrive and walks you to your table, followed by a wonderful gentleman with a coffee cart!!! Yes, a coffee cart, that serves the best, fresh coffee and warm milk, that was my absolute favorite thing!!! The food manager was Nando and ran a very organized, tight ship, watching the staff was like watch a beautiful symphony. I loved ever single smiling face that greeted us from the moment we arrived. Don't freak out when you meet the front desk beauty, Lauren, that is the splitting image of Adele (the singer). She was so lovely and accommodating. The housekeeper was lovely and so friendly. The pool area is fabulous, so much space, the pool is heated and the view is incredible. There is a lovely outdoor bar with the best bartender, Antonino, that made us the most incredible banana smoothie drink with vodka, it was our favorite!!!
