Then I don't remember when I was introduced to Fannie May's Trinidads, creamy chocolate truffle center in a pastel coating with a touch of toasted coconut, that was so good and I became obsessed! And I have not found any other brands that have a similar product that compared to it. I used to go to the Fannie May inside Deerbrook Mall for years until it was permanently closed. Then I found one in Northbrook Festival Mall and another one that had opened in Deerfield, I happily went to those, but sadly they had closed permanently as well. Occasionally, I would go to the one in Skokie if I am in that area. Now, the one in Niles across from Golf Mill Shopping Mall is my go-to Fannie May. Like any other Fannie May stores, it is bright and clean, delightful looking with chocolates aroma as soon as I stepped inside. Somehow every time I came to this store, I was greeted by a different staff member. Good thing that they were all nice and friendly. This time I only needed to buy a box of Trinidads as gift. The lady advised me that the pre-packaged ones were the same as the ones inside her glass case, and both had the same expiration date, but the pre-packaged box was $28 while the one that she would put together would be $32 a box. I usually would have the staff put together a box, but with her information, I just went with a pre-packaged box. She also told me that two one-pound pre-packaged boxes would be $40. It was very tempting, but I decided that I don't need to eat extra sweet, so I declined. Very tempting, though! For many, Fannie May chocolates, including Trinidads, evoke a sense of nostalgia or tradition, whether from family gatherings, holidays, or special occasions. I will continue to buy their high-quality chocolates as gifts. Well, occasionally to indulge myself too! Hope that this Niles store will remain opened for many years to come!

I'm not a white chocolate fan normally but their Trinidad's (dark chocolate soft filling covered in white chocolate that's studded with tiny bits of toasted coconut) are such a perfect combination of textures and flavor. It's why Trinidad's are one of their best sellers. They have a milk chocolate enrobed version, but trust me that the Trinidad's are better! Really! The mint meltaways are icon as well: rich, soft chocolate with a whisper of mint. I had mentioned these to a chocolate fanatic friend and she demanded I bring her a sample when I visited Chicago, so had to stop by to deliver on my promise and indulge a childhood memory.

I've looked at it plenty of times previously, but finally decided to buy something, I was really craving sweets. They have quite a variety of chocolates- cookies, bars, matcha, nuts, chips and more. We purchased the chocolate covered potato chips and a milk chocolate bar. Both were delicious. The chips were not too salty but still crispy. I was impressed. The chocolate is so silky smooth and not overly sweet like most milk chocolate bars in the world US. The employee was super nice and apologized like five times for the wait, even though I didn't think it was too long. The customer ahead of us was purchasing quite a lot for gifts so I think he thought he was taking too long to assist her. Either way, great experience overall. I'm tempted to set a reminder to myself for next year to buy the advent calendar!

She was great at explaining their chocolate. Their chocolate here is superb. It's so different, unique, and quality. The chocolate chip potato chips are absolutely delicious. What differentiates them is their international chocolate that you cannot find anywhere else! Their truffles fell apart in my mouth - incredibly delicious. Everything is fairly priced for the quality, too. I will 100% come back here again. Honestly, I thought that was just the standard for suburban grocery stores around here. I hadn't even heard of Sunset Foods until a TV commercial popped up the other night. Back in NY, I practically lived at Uncle Giuseppe's, and I've been majorly missing that high-end, Italian-market vibe. The commercial looked legit, so this past Saturday, I figured why not make the drive up to Highland Park and check it out. The second I pulled up, it just felt different. I got a super warm greeting walking in, but what really sold me was this guy outside grilling hot dogs right by the entrance. Honestly, just catching that smell in the weekend air instantly took me back to summers on Long Island. The store itself has a great vibe, really clean and upscale. I hit the cheese section first because the gourmet selection is massive. A really nice staff member saw me looking a bit overwhelmed and helped me pick out a few incredible cheeses. Then I hit the bakery and deli, totally overloading my basket with random finds, including a massive brownie that looked insane, and some awesome cured meats. But the real test was the meat and seafood counter. At Jewel, half the time the meat looks like it's turning brown under the plastic wrap. Sunset is the exact opposite. Everything looked fresh and bright. They were running a sale on salmon, and I picked up a filet that was delicious. Yeah, the register total was definitely higher than what I'd pay at Jewel, but the quality difference is night and day. You get what you pay for. So glad I found this place, it's the closest thing to home I've found yet.

Yes, it's generally more expensive than Target or Jewel, but we reluctantly paying $$$, for what should be $$ pricing. This really bothered me though. My wife stopped at Sunset's "Beri Good" drnk counter and brought me a Pomegranate Yogurt drink. It isn't inexpensive, and the last one was so packed with ice that perhaps half the cup was actually yogurt drink. The rest was ice. (See my photo of drink as received.) If I'm paying a premium price for a drink, I expect to get a reasonably full serving of the drink, not half a cup of ice. I'd much rather pay the price Sunset charges and feel I received what I paid for. A premium price should come with a premium product, not less of it.

So both tastes similar since I think the base is blueberry. But that's what the kiddies wanted. So it was a winner for sure. I like the pie a bit more since it's a tad sweeter and has some pie crust mixed in. Gets busy after school, as alot of folks come in right after pickups. It was completely empty at 2:30. And then completely filled at 2:35. It's nice place to practice your chess game on the tables as well. The moment I walked in, I could only smell the sweet smell of sugar!

I enjoy shopping in quieter, less chaotic establishments and GFS is excellent. I've been to this location about a half dozen times since one of the Asst. Managers came to my place of employment to introduce herself and dropped off some information. She has been fabulous to work with since I began my relationship with GFS. GFS is less than a mile down the road frame where I work, so it's extremely (almost too) convenient. :) Anything and everything you could ever need for a big party, fundraiser, pantry stocking, business/office essentials and more is here. GFS carries a lot of name brand items, as well as their own generic GFS products. In the past I have purchased coffee, soda, desserts, chips, cookies, cakes, pre-made salads, bagels, chili, beef, buns, taco stuffings, guacamole, produce, disposable tablecloths, paper products and decor items. I've never had a problem with anything. Quality has been far above average. I find that their prices are extremely competitive, too. I appreciate the fact that they break down pricing on their shelf tags. For example: they break down soup costs and give you the price per serving. This is very important in my line of work. 3/$9 name brand soda sales are awesome. Stock up! Most items are sold in bulk, so be prepared for that. They don't offer a huge variety of fresh produce items, but they do sell the essentials; apples, oranges, strawberries, salad mixes, peppers, etc. Sign-up for email alerts. They typically include a $5 off $50 purchase. I just got (2) $5 of $50 coupons via snail mail that I'll definitely be able to use. Great parking lot; clean & spacious. Shopping carts are well-maintained and corralled in one place. You won't find carts all over the parking lot here or miscellaneous trash hanging around. I'll definitely take advantage of online ordering if they start offering that service. No membership necessary. GFS is open to the public.
