My husband and I stayed here for the weekend when we were in town for a wedding and loved it. The hotel itself is beautiful and quaint and the staff was the exact same way. Great service in their restaurant and their front desk. From the moment you enter and encounter the valet to the bellman it was a fantastic experience! Can't wait to come back read more

A hotel can really make or ruin a trip. We looked forward to checking in for a vacation but what a huge let down!! There are parts of this historic hotel that are beautiful... it's even fun to ride the old manual elevator.... but our room was a disaster!! We were stuck in room 514! Unbelievable! There is a full size bed that takes up most of the room. The ceiling is slanted to less than 5 ft on one side of the bed. Getting up and bashing my head was bad enough, but the air conditioning was at 89 degrees by 10am. A technician was supposed to come up but we never saw him. We had to ASK for another room (and they did give us one) but not without me asking)! We walked through the hotel and there seemed to be large, nice rooms... we paid a high price for a terrible room! Beware of 514! read more

This hotel was a terrible overall experience. They should change the name to 'bait and switch' hotel. My family stayed here for a wedding and were offered a wedding block discount when the reservations were made. When we all checked out, the bills showed a different story. Some people were given the excuse that 'they had 2 queen beds' in the room' and others just had unauthorized gratuity tacked on. We had a $250 gratuity/ tip charge on our bill and when we asked the front desk about it, they insisted that someone in our room gave a that as a tip... no one did. On top of being difficult to deal with, the rooms are very old and VERY small. They also only have 1 elevator which must be manned by an employee so if you're on the 4th or 5th floor, expect to climb the stairs a lot. We would never stay here again. read more

This hotel has a unique charm and lovely decor. It is a Victorian style hotel, so if you are looking for modern and posh, this hotel is probably not your spot. It is charming, comfortable and has great service. I'm a Boulder native, and the hotel is a Boulder classic. If you like good service, good food, and an unbeatable location, this hotel is your place. People complain about the decor, but that must solely be because they do not like a period style charm. An EXCELLENT place to stay. read more

Hotel Boulderado was a beautiful place to have our wedding ceremony and reception! It was a rough start in planning due to the multiple staff changes in the months leading up to the wedding. Eventually, the hotel found a great Director of Sales Manager, and Catering Director. Cindy and Sam did a great job helping us deal with the complications of having the staff change so many times. The wedding ceremony, reception, room blocks, and newlywed accommodations ended up going as planned thanks to all their help. The service during the reception was stellar, everyone was very nice and attentive to all our guests. The food was amazing, and the drinks were delicious. Everyone had a great time on the dance floor. read more

I went to the Holiday Tea in a group of 10. We arrived 15 minutes early and there was no one to assist us to seating. When we arrived, we were the only customers in the mezzanine. We were seated in the far corner and could not see the tree. We were served water but it took a long time to give our orders for tea. When it arrived, the tea was lukewarm. Because of the size of our group I did not want to make a fuss. The treats came and were eaten immediately. We waited a very long time, perhaps 40 minutes, to be visited by our waiter to request more of the food and more tea. Shortly the mezzanine filled up and was completely full. The long and short of it is this, I felt like it was a rip off. $55 (including tip and tax) for some itty bitty bites. I was let down. Also, we were told once we were there that there would be carolers, only to find out the carolers are high schoolers and only sing on weekends. I've had high tea at the Brown Palace and that was lovely. Maybe it was the size of our grup, but it was a let down. read more

We are local and were in the middle of a move and called the day of. Not only did the Boulderado staff exceed my service expectations, they allow for dogs. Our dog is the size of a Dire Wolf and they were warm and welcoming with us. They won me over not only as a loyal client, I'll also refer my clients to them. read more

Enjoyed a great wedding at this gem. The staff customer service was great. Right down town and only a block from Pearl St. Noticed the room walls are pretty thin one evening when our neighbor was on the phone. read more

Beds are uncomfortable, rooms are noisy(walls are thin). Rooms have a motel feel. New section of hotel is a labyrinth of halls and far from main lobby. After long wait for tiny elevator in main lobby, found it easier to use the steps, then walk over sky walk to another section of hotel where use elevator/stairs to get to room. Heard several others complain that they found getting to their room also a hassle. Night manager was very, very rude. Valets were nice. Won't stay here again, though restaurant had great food. Opt for St Julian which is much more comfortable and far better amenities. read more

I'm going to echo Mark J.'s review in that if I could give half stars, this would easily be 3.5 starts but definitely not a 4 or 5. That saddens me as I have a soft spot in my heart for historic buildings, which Hotel Boulderado definitely is, but the service and room left a lot to be desired. The location is terrific; it's set about a block off of the Pearl Street Mall and two blocks from the Boulder Theater. The lobby is amazing as well; craftsman architecture and an old Otis elevator which requires an attendant to use. Hubby and I booked an 'elegant king suite' for an anniversary getaway without the kids, and while the room was huge and comfortable, I wouldn't go so far to call it elegant. We were in the historic wing of the hotel, but the carpeting in the hall way was worn, and the doors didn't look especially sturdy. Additionally, the walls were paper thin; we could hear two men in the room next door arguing about something very clearly most of Saturday night. The room itself was decorated with floral wallpaper and 20's style furniture, but it honestly didn't look to be in the best shape, in fact it looked cheap, though we found the sofa to be comfortable. Where the hotel really slipped was in service. Hubby had emailed the concierge to inquire about events in the area this past weekend and received an immediate response. But, he discovered when he began calling some of the venues that the list he received was outdated! When he called the concierge on Friday to let them know, he was treated rudely and did not receive an apology, which would have been the right thing to do. Room service really lacked as well. Saturday night, we ordered the flourless chocolate cake with ice cream as well as a Nitro stout for me (which was on the room service menu) and a glass of wine for hubby. The cake arrived with an IPA; the server explained that they were out of Nitro but subbed out an IPA (which was not on the menu) for me. She was happy to replace it if I didn't like it. While I appreciate the offer of a comp'ed drink, I would have been happier had I known ahead of time and could have requested something else (I like IPA's, but I prefer brown ales and stouts with chocolate). Additionally, the ice cream was completely melted, which indicates to me our order had sat a while. It would have been nice if the server had taken two minutes to check that before bringing the order up. Same lack of care Sunday morning at breakfast; our food was cold, our server had to make two trips because 'She didn't want to drop the glass of orange juice.' Why not get a cart, then? In room checkout was broken while we were there, too. We had been told by the desk clerk we could check out via TV while we were there, but were unable to (we kept getting an error). The clerk Sunday morning just shrugged it off. Overall, we spent $500 for one night, one very lousy dessert, breakfast which was so-so and service that just left us scratching our heads. We expected closer to a four or five star hotel level of service, but it just wasn't quite there, and it certainly wasn't romantic. This is probably a great location to host an event, but not a great location for a getaway. read more

I wish I could give this zero stars. We stayed there for my birthday and they totally messed up the scheduling. Our stay was for Saturday night but they booked us for Friday and when we showed for dinner Saturday night we were seated at a small table in the bar area and told our reservation was for Sunday. We decided to go ahead and see about planning our wedding there. We had repeated contact with Aley, the wedding manager. We were ready to hand them a non refundable check. We got the contract and even though our wedding was scheduled for June, 2016, she had written in the contract that final guest count was due July, 2015. Ok just a mistake. Email her back and she changes it but now it says July, 2016. The wedding again is in June. Alright...email back and mention that if they want the guest count a few days in advance (the contract still said July 2016) the date should read June, 2016. She then explains that she wants it in May to give a few days leeway. I write a third email spelling out the issue. If you require a few extra days the contract should say MAY, 2016 because our wedding is in JUNE, 2016 however the contract still says JULY 2016. I explain we are hesitant and lacking confidence in the process. I think a professional business would respond and apologize and acknowledge the issue and try to fix it. We never got a response. Zero follow through. Nothing. I sent 3 emails and she never got the mistake. She never tried to fix the issue. We were about to give them a huge nonrefundable deposit. We were signing a contract. But Aley couldn't understand a basic issue with the dates and then didn't even follow up with an email. Amazing. Worst experience ever and I would NEVER recommend anyone stay there or have their wedding there. Totally lack of professionalism. (We have instead gone with the Omni Interlocken and have had an amazing time planning our wedding!). Avoid this place. Go with the Omni. read more

Hotel Boulderado was actually not my initial choice but I wanted my wife to be happy. I have to eat crow here as this hotel is actually a pinnacle of excellence in every way. The service on every need is top notch. This people is a well run service industry institution. Every need you may have will be taken care of. Rooms are a bit pricey but it's worth it. There is a bar with blues in the basement and great cocktails. There is another bar connected to the hotel on the corner which is a sports bar with excellent food and local micro brews. Cocktails there are set for a younger crowd (sweeter) but decently balanced. The restaurant and room service in the hotel is from Spruce, another restaurant in the hotel, which is excellent. I come from New Orleans and tend to think of myself as a bit of a food snob. The food there is surprisingly good. The location of the hotel is also incredibly central and convenient. Everything was an easy walk. I highly recommend the hotel. read more

Less than I expected. (Not the price... the experience)! This hotel has some beautiful areas, but needs some work. The temperature in the room was extremely warm. It's close to walking to great places, but when you get back to the room, you want to cool off! read more

We stayed at Hotel Boulderado in mid November on the weekend of the last Buffs game against USC. Although the place was PACKED, the staff was always friendly and helpful. The hotel is old enough to require one of the staff to operate the elevator for guests. Definitely adds to the ambiance of this historic place. Centrally located (short walk) to shopping and restaurants. However, there are restaurant/bar options on property each with it's own personality. We visited two out of the 3 and both were good quality food, reasonably priced and staffed with people making every effort to meet all needs. Can't say enough great things about this place, and were definitely looking forward to staying there again in the near future! read more

While our first night was good, our second night was miserable -- it turns out that the hotel had deliberately roomed us on the noisy side of the building because I was traveling with a toddler. And by noisy, I mean jackhammer loud -- the sushi place across the alley right outside our window was power washing and scouring metal range hoods from 11pm - 2am. Even having the HVAC fan on and a white noise machine running wasn't enough to blunt the hammering sound -- which of course sounded like "monsters" to a toddler. It turns out that this is a regular occurrence that the hotel was well aware of. Around 12:30am they offered to move us to another room, but that was just after my child had finally fallen back asleep, so the best resolution I could get at that point of the night was for them to bring me some ear plugs. When I tried to bring the issue up with the desk staff the next morning, the desk staff gave me contradicting excuses and lies about what had happened and were overall pretty rude about it. I'll also note that disabled accessibility is a real challenge at this hotel. The lobby entrance has a steep, narrow ramp as the alternative to the stairs -- and then once you get in, getting from the lobby to where our hotel room was required ringing for an elevator operator, navigating a step up into the narrow Otis elevator (which admittedly has some great historic charm, despite the challenges), then getting across the hotel to take another elevator up. For the entrance on the other side of the hotel, there were stairs for the guest entrance, and I was directed to walk through the parking garage if I needed a ramp. On the upside, the historical charm of the hotel is quite appealing, and most of the staff I encountered were great. read more

Stayed on a Friday night to avoid a late night drive back to Denver. Comfy bed, pretty standard room size, all courteous staff. Yes, the decorating is garish, but you expect this in an historic hotel. Location is great, and you're steps from all the fantastic shopping and eats on Pearl Street. read more

I will never return to any of the bars, restaurant or hotel ever again. The ancient bellboy with a ponytail was extremely rude. They should hire employees that don't have a chip on their shoulder because they wasted their life taking luggage up and down stairs. read more

I enjoy coming hear for a drink from time to time. The ambience is very good and the prices are reasonable.

A $129 room at a $300 rate. My wife and I snuck away for a weekend with friends who were from out of town and staying here so we felt obligated to stay. Our experience was mixed. The room was clean but it had 1980's hollow core sliding closet doors, a non-victorian outdated wall mirror (rectangular mirror without frame mounted to wall with Ace Hardware), cheap imitation brass fixtures and gaudy awful floral wallpaper and carpet. I'm sorry but I hold $300 rooms to a much different standard than $150 rooms. While I love the main building with it's vintage charm, decent restaurants/bars room #350 is horrible for the price. And if you don't want to valet (I've got a car of the type I'd never valet) they ask you to find your own spot on the street. The next night we stayed in Denver at the Oxford Hotel - that place has the charm I expected and at a MUCH better value. Review to follow. read more

Stayed at the Boulderado twice and am a big fan. The first time was definitely the best. We booked through Expedia and were upgraded to a huge king suite when we arrived. The suite even had a balcony that overlooked the street which was GREAT in the summer. The restaurant in the hotel, Q's, has incredible breakfast. We only ate breakfast there, but heard their dinners were also amazing. The second time we stayed, we didn't have a bad experience, but our room was definitely not as awesome as the king suite. We originally were placed in the modern wing, and when we told them we preferred the old part of the hotel, they were totally accomodating. Unfortunately, we ended up in a really small room w/ only a full bed (it was the last room they had available), but it did have a nice view of the mountains and it's not like we were hanging out in the hotel room much anyway. It was cool of the staff to accomodate us and insure that we had a room in the part of the hotel we wanted, because they could have just as easily told us we had to stay in the room we were given. The best part of the hotel is definitely the location. It is right in the center of all the action and is walking distance to all the bars/restaurants/nightlife of Pearl Street. It's also close to two really good bike shops that rent bikes, which was important for us as we were there to mountain bike. It's about a 25 minute bike ride to the connection for the Petasso Trail which is really convenient. We had never been to Boulder before the first time we stayed at the Boulderado and were unsure about where to stay. I'm glad we went with the Boulderado; it's clean, staffed by very friendly people, and close to literally just about everything. Fantastic! read more

I grew up in Boulder and have spent many brunches at the Hotel Boulderado with fantastic memories. When posed with the option to come back to Boulder to visit after moving away 6 years ago, I booked online at the Boulderado for 1 night during Memorial Day weekend. Even though my itinerary downloaded from the reservation stated that there was a 24 hr cancellation policy, they informed me that there was a 2 week cancellation policy and that they were going to charge me for the entire cost of the reservation plus tax to cancel. I was treated very rudely without any understanding of my situation. Was a great place but I will never recommend or go there again. Very disappointed. read more

Fantastic, amazing! I absolutely loved the hotel. It embodies the city of Boulder with charm and class. The hotel is funky and old but my room was HUGE and the bed was comfortable. My window faced the Tetons. Everything exceded. my expectations. And the Corner Bar has really good food and a friendly staff. On top of all of that, it is in a great location. great hotel... aside from the whole ghost thing. we stayed here not knowing the hotel history. i always ask for upgrades at hotels. why not... never hurts to ask. well they were kind enough to "upgrade" us to a suite. upgrade... hmmm... not so sure. Let me say, it was a strange stay to say the least. Odd noises, voices, doors closing. Super weird. I commented when we checked out about the work being done upstairs, and how noisy they were. I was actually kinda pissed about the furniture being moved around early in the day. It kept me awake all morning. Well when I brought it up, I was informed there was no work being done. The guy double checked the maintenance log, then looked to see who was staying there. He said the rooms above ours were vacant. The guy made some offhand comment about maybe it was a ghost. I really thought nothing of it. Well days later the comment (and all the weirdness) was bugging me... so i looked up the hotel online. yeah, the story is that the hotel is haunted. specifically, the room we were in. i would not have believed it if someone had told me... but ... hard to explain what all went on there. so the room itself? super nice. really spacious. comfortable bed. it's a cute hotel, GREAT location. i would totally stay there again. would i stay in that room again? no, probably not. the bf says yes, but i prefer a nice ghost-free room, thank you very much read more

It's like going to your grandma's house. My grandma's house even smelled like the room. What's with those bed spreads made of time consuming needlework? I'll keep this short and sweet: It is annoying walking from the lobby to the North Wing. Why does the lobby always smell like melted cheese? The mattresses are honestly THE NICEST, SOFTEST, DRIFT OFF TO LUMBAR SUPPORTED SLEEP IN THE WORLD. We stayed in the guest house. Liked the location and the valet parking. The restaurant was fantastic. If it wasn't for the restaurant then this would be 2 stars. Here is what I didn't like. The bed was meh. The pillows were horrible. The sofa in our room was about the most uncomfortable thing I have ever sat on. You came in from the outside directly onto carpet and that is just gross. The room and furniture arrangement in the living room was just odd. There was no remote for either televisions and the volume was blaring for the one in the common area. But the worst thing about the room was that it was radiator heat and the windows wouldn't open. We ROASTED. I'm assuming staying in the actual hotel would be better based on the reviews. Definitely feel like the poor relation over here in the guesthouse. read more

I have visited and eaten at the Boulderado many times, as my sister and some of her friends have worked there for a few years, and it has an absolutely fantastic environment, with friendly staff and people. This establishment has a great variety of food including my personal favorites which include their calamari, Brussels sprouts, truffle fries, and the prime rib sandwich. The building itself is beautiful and the location in boulder is very lively. The style is kept as it was built which gives a cozy feeling to any incoming visitors trying out any of the restaurants there. The Corner bar restaurant has great outdoor and indoor seating, where you can enjoy your food. Everything comes out at reasonable times and I have never experienced any mix ups or problems with my orders. Even if you are just passing through the Boulderado to enjoy a meal, you should definitely check out the interior a little bit, as it is a sweet place to see. disclosure: never stayed there, but... ate, drank and partied there a lot this place isnt for everyone; i have had friends stay there, and the reports were mixed; too pricey for me, but the lobby's free, the restaurants are good (having gone through several incarnations), the catacombs is another story onto itself, and the mezz was a favorite hangout for years being a mix of stylish borderline elegance and unpretentious casualness at the same time i also remember when it was a down on it's heels dump, before remodling and restoration in the 80's, when people rented rooms by the week and steven king had stayed there before he hit it big historic indeed read more

I got married recently in Boulder and stayed at the Boulderado as my home base for the weekend-as did many of my family members. Sure, the Boulderado is pricey, but good luck finding a hotel in Boulder that isn't pricey--even a budget motel will run you $100 in this town! I give my 5 stars based on the staff who went above and beyond all weekend. From the minute I pulled in with a car FULL of stuff to unload the bellboys were there to make many trips back and forth. Getting ready the day-of my girlfriends and I must have asked staff to come up 5 times to help with random things like straws and an audio cable for the stereo (which the staff member ended up sharing his personal cord). The valets were amazing. They monitored and helped us secure street spots in front of our venue and helped during the wedding to move cars around so we could get the perfect shots in front of the venue. Sure, I guess you could say this is their job but I can easily say that they went above and beyond and helped make a high stress weekend a little less stressful! read more
