No room service even if the food is ready to go!
    Amber M.

This is the place I usually stay when visiting Boulder this time however there was a distinct lack of amenities in my room, two paper cups and one hot water paper cup, zero toiletries beyond one small bar of soap, our body wash is empty and there's not even a luggage rack to put my suitcase... so we had to fetch plastic cups for things like soaking retainers or having bedside water at night, glassware would have been nice. One major frustration that is not new is the coffee shop has incredibly limited hours and fairly high prices, after 10:30 coffee is unavailable which as a Seattleite I find bizarre, do people here never have coffee with lunch or in the afternoon? On my last night I slept very poorly, the climate control in our room keeps having its settings changed so I had to get up in the middle of the night due to it being 75 degrees in our room (in October) to fiddle with it in the dark even though I had previously set it to auto and was manually lowering it for sleeping and it kept being put back to or reverting to fan. Due to my lack of sleep in this very hot room I decided I was going to order breakfast in except you can't order room service while breakfast is being served in the lobby?? Why?? The food is right there, it's made, I'm exhausted from sleeping 3 hours and willing to pay a premium for you to bring it to me, I see zero reason for the lobby serving food to be a conflict with providing room service, their loss I guess since I won't be ordering breakfast at all now. Overall I found this stay to be more barebones than before and I find the room service issue to be needlessly frustrating. The last issue is they place a card in your room asking you to tip the cleaning service, which I did, but how about you pay your workers fair wages and don't rely on your guests to subsidize low wages? Our room was serviced 3 times over 6 days and much was just making beds and taking out trash, I appreciate that but is that "tip worthy service"? I don't think so but I'm also not willing to leave their cleaning employees high and dry if they pay so little they're forcing them to beg for tips. I think it might be time for me to find an upgrade. I'd still recommend the place but it's just not what I'm personally looking for.

    Welcome snacks!

In town for a Boulder wedding, this Hilton Garden Inn was one of a few options that was sent to us by the brides... It's new, conveniently located, moderately priced, and worked out well for our two night stay. It's worth noting that we had no issues at all with friendly service, hot water, water pressure, wifi, room keys working, etc... This hotel also has some complimentary coffee out in the mornings and apples / cookies later in the day. The fitness room is on the small side, but it does the job. I believe that as a hotel guest, you can also get access to the nearby Embassy Suites pool if you request it. This is a solid four star hotel and I would absolutely keep it in mind as an option for future visits to the Boulder area.

Does not give an upscale vibe - not crazy over design, but that is more of a personal preference. Everything about it is just ok. There is a yellow Smeg mini frig in the room that sticks out and I just do not get it. The strip lighting above the curtain window was falling down. The ballroom design does not work and the food was inedible. Getting a drink at the Lobby bar is a feat of patience. All the seating including rooms is not comfortable - again bad design choices. They do have complimentary cookies made on site near check in which was nice and tasty. Staff warned to grab because they go fast and apparently not restocked.

Lo and behold, Tab Benoit (a terrific blues singer and guitarist) was performing Saturday night! Although it appeared sold out, we lucked into 6th row, just off center (on the aisle). At just under $70/ticket it was reasonable. Tab and his bandmates (drummer and bassist) put on a nonstop 90 minute show that really highlighted Tab's extraordinary guitar playing. He also crooned a few ballads in his signature raspy voice (though not enough in our opinion)! In terms of living/performing blues artists, Tab is among the elite. Checkout the 3 video snippets for a glimpse at his versatility. The quaint venue is amazing. At over 125 years old, t's officially listed as historic. And, despite being 50+ feet high, it is made almost entirely of red wood. That yields really warm acoustics that never harshly echo. A quick glance at the calendar and it appears there's something going on 5-6 days/week. Lots of free parking, though you might have to walk a bit, and likely uphill. They sell snacks and drinks at the venue (no bringing in your own). All purses do get checked. The concession prices are high ($6-8 for a single can of beer or a vodka-seltzer) but consistent/average for concert venues. Seats are reasonably comfortable (old movie-house-style, fold up/down, lightly padded) with a nifty cupholder on the back of the seat in front of you. Restrooms are off premises - yep, you gotta exit the auditorium and walk about 75 feet to a small structure that houses the men's/women's bathrooms. Your wrist band that you should have received upon entry, gets you back into the auditorium (don't exit without it)! Oh and maybe don't forget your ear protection - I brought some decent small ones from home and was glad I did, seeing how close we were. Upon exiting the venue it is a little dark along the various walkways to your car and your phone can light the path. Things are congested for about 15-20 minutes but it all moves slowly/surely because it's not massive like an arena or stadium. I can see why so many big names come here!

I played in wind ensembles and symphony orchestras as a youngster, but definitely fall in the category of amateur, at best. I do love a good night out at the performing arts, though. The orchestra this summer, led by Maestro Peter Oundjian, is exceptional. I can't remember a symphonic performance that was more intricately perfect in ensemble and intonation than the three I have heard this summer. That each individual performer could be put into a large group and perform as one in such an exceptional way is truly awe-inspiring. I'm going to hear the Dvorak tonight, and simply can't wait! For those who don't know, the Colorado Symphony is now fortuitous in being led by Maestro Oundjian, and under his leadership, I can only imagine that the sky is the limit! That said, there is something very special about driving into the Boulder country/mountains to this little auditorium in Chautauqua Park, with exceptional acoustics and an orchestra composed of some of the best musicians from around the country. What an absolute treat! While the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is a national treasure for us in Colorado, I promise you won't miss the traffic and parking fees of downtown Denver!

The rooms are very ordinary, not as they appear when you are booking. It's also in a great location--very close to the University of Colorado Boulder and walkable to a lot of shops and restaurants. The lobby is definitely the highlight--absolutely beautiful with intricate details, a vintage glass ceiling, and a grand, elegant feel that gives you a sense of the building's history. Our room was clean, and the bathroom was also well-maintained. The surrounding area felt safe, which we appreciated. That said, the room itself was a bit dark, which seems pretty typical for many American hotels. The biggest downside for us was the required valet parking. It meant we never really had easy access to our car unless we wanted to go through the hassle of requesting it every time. Because of that, we ended up just using Uber the whole stay. Personally, I would much rather just pay to park and have direct access to my own vehicle. To be fair, the valet staff were always very friendly and welcoming whenever we came and went. We also ran into some minor inconveniences--there didn't seem to be enough robes, towels, or washcloths available during our stay. Overall, it was fine for a short visit. The lobby is stunning and the location is excellent, but the valet situation alone would make me choose somewhere else next time.
