We stayed here for two nights and it was fine. Location was great, can't complain about that. It's easy to drive by the entrance to this hotel. I'm thankful for those who posted pictures here on Yelp of the entrance because the hotel is not clearly marked as Hotel Blake. The parking situation was a bit confusing. We arrived late at night and were apprehensive about parking our rental car in the nearby parking lots because we couldn't tell for sure what the overnight policies were so we just went the easy way and had the hotel valet it. Valet parking is $60 a night. Check-in was easy and there's an interesting book nook area in the lobby. One thing I did not care for was the sink took a long time to drain; however, on the plus side, the provided shampoo, soap and conditioner smelled amazing. The bed was comfortable. Our room was on the second floor and faced the street so there was definitely traffic noise, but nothing that bothered us. I don't know if I would stay here again given the cost of valet parking and I'm really not too keen on leaving a rental car in a public lot for an extended period. If I'm just going to Chicago and nowhere else, I probably wouldn't even get a rental car. It's easier to just walk or Uber to places if you're going to the regular tourist locations. read more

Located in the Printer's Row neighborhood of Chicago, Hotel Blake offers a modern ambience in a building that is recognized on the Department of the Interior's National Register of Historic Places. We arrived at the hotel a bit early, but were able to check in anyway thanks to the wonderful staff. Our room was relatively spacious (the bathroom was perhaps a bit small, but that's to be expected in a historic building in a city hotel). The beds are big with poofy (is that a word? If not, I'm making it a word) bedding, and I was delighted to note that we had a microwave available in the room (along with the mini fridge and coffeemaker). I did notice that things seemed a bit louder / easier to hear in Hotel Blake vs the other hotel I had recently stayed in. The folks who were staying in the room across from us frequently came and went, and we heard their door slam frequently and loud conversations from time to time. I also noticed when walking down the hallway that some of the rooms had doors with a good amount of space underneath them, which could again contribute to some noise issues. The staff were always welcoming, and helpful as we left the hotel for the day or any time we returned. Though we didn't utilize the valet ourselves, we did note the valet attendant ensuring that other drivers (not staying at the hotel) were not utilizing the valet area inappropriately (parking there to run errands, etc) and made sure to keep the valet drop-off & pickup area properly tended to. We frequently utilized Lyft on our own visit, and that was perfectly fine... as was meeting DoorDash or other delivery drivers quickly when receiving meal orders. It was also nice to know that the hotel was very secure, as the lobby was always staffed. TL;DR Very enjoyable historic hotel that offers comfort, security, and some chic decor - as well as ease of access to most of what you'll want to see in Chicago (whether driving, using the CTA, or rideshare). The rooms are gorgeous with a modern feel and very high ceilings which makes the rooms look huge. You are in walking distance of so much. I would so stay here again. We stayed there during Lollapalooza. We had no idea it was Lollapalooza but it was nice. Walking distance to Grant Park. Some cute shops nearby, Sofi's was down the street also good. Lots to like here. Check in was easy and the staff person was friendly with good recommendations for nearby food. Room was spacious and clean, with nicer soaps and shampoo. Towels were lovely and huge and soft. Bed was comfortable. Fitness area had what I wanted. They had free coffee in the morning, and it was brutally cold when I was here, and they had hot cider and coco in the evenings. It was a great stay, and I would absolutely stay here again. read more

The Blake is my go to hotel in Chicago, even when work will pay for more expensive ones. The hotel has great bones and was renovated before the pandemic. They didn't skimp. Room was spacious with a fridge, microwave and safe. The staff make the place magical. They are welcoming, engaged, helpful and do what they can to make one's stay the best. The hotel is located far enough from the Magnificent Mile that you don't get all the traffic, but it is close to anywhere you want to go. The hotel is located on the blue line. I know the Jackson station is close, and there is one more station closer. read more

The Hilton takeover ruined Bluegreen. You pay crazy fees for properties you can NEVER book because availability is gone. Hilton opened the doors for their people to use our resorts, but we don't get the same access to theirs. For the amount of money Bluegreen charges, it's a total disaster and not worth the hassle. read more

Love this hotel! The area is nice and the hotel has a quiet ambience as well as varied seating in the lobby for reading or meeting friends. We arrived on a very rainy day and it was a delight and relief to use their valet parking and get checked in quickly. The staff are efficient and friendly and can help with any questions about the city as well as local food options. They have a deal for maps and other offerings, and we found they were always ready to answer questions. The rooms are quiet and lovely with updated amenities and ambience. The building is rather historic so it is a fun neighborhood to explore, so staying here gives us the ability to feel in the city but also sort of out of the hustle. Amazing location. You really can't beat it: Valet is $50 a day, but there are cheaper parking across the street. Front desk people were friendly, but one of the vallet was pretty rude. Room is spacious with mini fridge and microwave. Large bathroom. Water pressure for the shower sucked, just awful. Unrelated to my review, because this didn't affect me, but on the floor, walking to our room, you have to go up 2 steps. Definitely make sure you say if you need an accessible room. Great location to stay if you want to get around in the Chicago area. I went there to go to the St. Patrick's parade and to watch the river green transformation and do some sightseeing. Please don't stay in room 101. I made the mistake of requesting a quiet room away from elevator. I think that confused the staff... they didn't know what is a quiet room. They gave be an alley room right next to the trash dumpster. The trash truck comes every single day (week nights & weekends) between 5am to 6am... so no it cannot be your consistent alarm clock. Additionally the view of the room is the street cam looking right into your room plus a huge street light. Next time change the room don't wait and no, trust me you are not needy. These are basic human needs, quiet room, decent city view and privacy. I paid $1,050.62 for 4 night. I deserve better. 1 star for the lovely staff member who helped me get my pearl earring from the bathroom p-trap. After adding this review I realized this hotel has a great gym reading other reviews. We had an absolutely wonderful stay here. The location is perfect, especially for our plans which included a show at the Auditorium Theater just a few blocks away. The room, bathroom... everything was great. Comfortable, clean, great. The most impressive thing though is that everyone from concierge, front desk, housekeeping... EVERYONE was incredibly kind and accomodating. It's rare to find a situation where all the employees seem so invested in their company. I wish I'd learned names to single them out. Hotel Blake is a great home away from home and a fantastic location to make your home base in the Windy City. The location is perfect, 2 blocks outside of the loop, 3 blocks from Grant park, it's easy and so accessible to walk or use public transportation once your in the city. It's also simple to get to the hotel from either airport or if taking Amtrak into town. If flying in you'll have to take the train into town about a 30 or 40 minute ride. The hotel is in an old historic printing building and you arrive to bell men and the option of valet $55 a day. I choose to find a spot with spot hero and only paid $10 dollars overnight (it was about a 3 block walk away). The lobby is decorated well and is very warm and welcoming. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Even when the water heater broke overnight, it was quickly fixed and warm showers were available by 9am. The lobby has coffee and flavored infused water with very comfy chairs, tables and benches and outlets to do your work. Meli's next door was very very good, the fitness center has an incredible view of the city and you've got the famous Gino's East right across the street, it's amazing. Hero coffee is less than a block away as well. There are many great spots within a few blocks to many to count. Now the room was awesome, to queen beds and love how the wallpaper shares the story of Hotel Blake, very cool personal touch. Bathroom was so with touch mirrors and a huge shower with rain spout. Bed was comfy, room was clean and dark for a good night sleep. I love the Hotel Blake and can't wait to come again and bring my wife. read more

The restaurant downstairs was delicious for breakfast and the hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Two things that could be improved are the hairdryers (very low voltage) and the vending machine on the top floor was out of every soda. Other than that it's great! read more

First visit to Chicago and decided to try one of 'Choicehotels' Ascend hotel. - located in the middle of downtown Chicago, we couldn't be any happier with our stay. This hotel is exceptionally clean, awesome location and very friendly/helpful staff. In place of listing the pluses, please read the caption within each picture. There are so many great cafes/restaurants/coffee shops within walking distance, no need to rent a car. The four days we stayed, we kept very busy walking no more than .08 to any attraction. Prices for eating out are higher in Chicago than the national average, but we found Meli's (next door to hotel) had by far the best prices and great food choices. This has now become our newest 'short getaway' destination. The only negative we could find were toilet paper & tissue are thin. Highly recommend !! read more

Ray, at the front desk, is a gem. He listens to what you are saying and asking and is beyond helpful. The valet arrived at our taxi before we even opened our door. I'm ashamed I didn't get his name. As you arrive, there is a coffee and tea bar to welcome you, which was very much appreciated since we had been traveling by train for 2 days and were very weary. I thought the decor was above and beyond. The room was extremely clean and well stocked with towels and toiletries. I loved the wallpaper at the top with the story of Chicago's Printers Row. I decided to book a hotel in downtown Chicago for a staycation since September is my birthday month. I scored a geo deal on the same day through hotel-tonight. "Hotel Blake" was featured on the website and I booked it for two (2) nights an hour before check-in time. Now, I will break it down into categories. I understand that everyone has a different expectation on how a hotel stay is rated. I personally thought our stay was quite pleasant. 1) room: our room was on the second floor and the nearest one to the elevators. It didn't really bother me since I booked it at a discount. Ear plugs were provided on the nightstand for those who disliked noise on the hallway. The quality of guests staying at the hotel was fine. I heard conversations yet the volume was kept to the minimum. 2) bed: I was happy to see a king bed since our own bedroom in the house could only fit a queen size. "Sobel Westex" bedsheets, pillow cases, pillows, and comforter were used (the nice stuff). They were clean and in good shape. There were six (6) medium-firm pillows on this king bed. 3) wildcard: there was a space by the windows that allowed an individual to sit on. Though it was uncomfortable, I brought some pillows for crushioning and they worked for the most part. I conducted some people-watching, and yeah, I could be creepy and you wouldn't know! 4) amenities: "Alaffia" citrus vanilla-scented soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were complimentary. The housekeeping lady was kind and restocked another set on day 2. There were also a Conair 1875 hairdryer, q-tips, cotton balls, makeup removing towelettes, microwave, mini fridge, personal-cup coffee machine, Lavazza coffee, glasses, and an ice bucket in the room. Bathrobe was available upon request. 5) comfort level: the temperature of the room was a bit cold when we walked in, yet we adjusted higher and slept well. Ummm...if I really wanted to point out what was lacking, that would be a pouf or an ottoman to go with either the accent chair or the desk chair for foot rest. 6) WiFi: it was free and I didn't have any complaint. It dropped once for a short period of time during our stay, and that was it. 7) coffee & tea: locally-roasted "Metric Coffee" was offered in each morning near the business center. Caffeinated and non-caffeinated tea bags from a different company and hot water were available as well. 8) staff: everyone greeted us with a smile as we left and came back. We didn't need valet parking ($55/night, as of 09/02/2018). Nevertheless, I could tell the gentlemen in charge of valet were cool. Some definitely had big personalities. 10) additional comments: the overall cleanliness was satisfactory. It was a minor marble crack underneath the sink. However, nothing was super outdated. I wasn't really a fan of their bath towels; they were slightly coarse. With that being said, a friendly reminder for the towel junkies out there: bring your own! Hubby and I enjoyed our stay here at "Hotel Blake." In terms of public transportation options, CTA LaSalle Blue Line station is one (1) block west of the hotel. In addition, CTA Harrison Red Line station is two (2) blocks southeast of the hotel. Both lines run 24/7. We didn't get a chance to check out the on-site restaurant, "Meli Cafe" and didn't request any room service, so I couldn't render any opinion of mine on it. There was something petty, but it affected my rating on this Yelp review. The beverages on the 12th. floor vending machine were ALL SOLD OUT when we were there. Fortunately, the closest CVS was a block east. read more

I enjoyed my stay here. The location is great. You can walk to local eating spots that affordable but then there are fancy spot in walking distance too. There's a restaurant attached that many people liked but I didn't. The people that work here are sooooo hospitable! I loved them the most. They guided us were to go and gave directions. This was a super cute hotel in a really convenient location. The hotel is unique and well decorated in a funky modern style. The room was small, but not unusually so for an urban hotel, and the high ceilings are fantastic. The front desk staff was delightful and check in on us as soon as we got up to our room. We didn't get to explore much since we were here for a conference, but it seemed like a great location. Close to the El and with bike lanes nearby. Also key: there is a Starbucks directly across one corner and a 7-11 on another, so you have your choice of moderate to overpriced coffee, and a place to buy late night room-snacks. We had just two room issues- it takes forever to get the room cooled down and there is no air circulating if you're not in the room, and the plumbing was weird. The toilet was LOUD and the shower had a rainwater fixture which we just don't prefer. But all in all it was neat, clean, pretty, and great service at a good price. This hotel was nice and the restaurant was nice. The staff were friendly and attentive. My complaints are that they charged 100$ for incidentals but there was nothing in the room to be incidental. No water, no drinks, not even a mini bar or snacks! The coffee machine was NOT Keurig so I went downstairs to buy coffee in the restaurant. Also the shower was NOT clean! I dropped the soap and hair was stuck to it when I picked it back up! Disgusting! So I assume they just run water and do surface cleaning in the shower. Now as for the things I like, the decor was excellent! I wished I could have taken every lamp in the room home! The mirror in the bathroom was some sort of high tech mirror that self adjusted. I had to readjust at times. The decorations were beautiful the wallpaper was nice and had the history of Chicago on it. The bed spread had an inspirational quote on it. It's was a very pretty room! This Hotel is beyond my expectations. This is probably the best hotel in Choice program. Joyce(from the Philippines ) in front desk was very polite and professional. She made sure that everything is what I requested for. Appreciate the smile compare to the front desk help in the morning Manaya whom i asked if she can give a plastic bag so I can get some ice. She yelled at the cleaning lady and confirmed if there's ice bag in our room . I said I don't want to walk all the way up to my room and wondering if she can spare me from the back. She went back but I just don't appreciate the attitude. Little things can ruin your stay like that. Aside from her everything is great. The bell boys very helpful. Shout out to Joyce again. One of the Bluegreen Ascend location. But this one is right at the heart of City of Chicago. It was worth to use the bonus time here when we are part of the time share owner group. The hotel room is small but very comfort in the city. Since our room at the back alley, it is much quiet than the street view room. Room is clean. The pillow selection has short and long pillows. I like the long pillow can be use to hug to sleep. The lobby is well decorated. Everyday has the cucumber or lemon water at the front. Very refreshing after a long walk. It has business center but we never have a chance to use it. Hotel is secure since it has maned lobby all time. The internet speed is in very good band. The high speed make the connection easy. The hotel strategically located next to three CTA light rail station. You can hop to all line easily. We have the train pass that not require any taxi or rental car. It is walking distance to the Grand Park. Restaurant is nearby or hop on the red line train to China Town for lunch or dinner. read more
