This is a conflicting review. I want so badly to like the Assisi but I wouldn't stay here again. But it might be right for you!
Perks: Location! It's 2 blocks from Termini, which is fabulous if you'll be trekking around Italy. Staff! The staff was exceedingly helpful, polite, and attentive. I genuinely liked them and so I feel a little guilty about the "cons" section... Price: Really reasonable given the location.
Cons: it's one step above a hostel. Do not believe the 3-star claims. Do. Not. Bed is like a rock, dirty, low-quality linens. No air conditioning. (There was a window unit but it did not function.) Front desk has to issue you a remote for the tv so you don't steal it. Rooms open with an actual key and you must leave your key with the front desk when you leave the property. Bathroom so small you can't get dressed in it. Shower only, and about 18 square inches; I hope you are thin. Wifi by the hour (admittedly it was reasonable, but still.) they don't accept credit cards. Noisy, especially given that we had to leave the window open all night since there was no air conditioning. The bathroom electrical outlet inexplicably sparked randomly throughout our visit, with nothing plugged in. Cleanliness is not good. I can only imagine when the last paint job was. Walls, curtains, everything was old, needed replacing and a thorough scrubbing. The lobby is locked at night. Even coming down from your room, you cannot exit the building without waking up the overnight front desk clerk who sleeps on the lobby couch. Seems like a fire hazard to lock patrons inside!
It is a very, very basic place to stay. Unfortunately it was not comfortable even just for that. Even though the staff was super helpful, I wouldn't stay here again and would only recommend for the very frugal budget traveler. read more
