I wanted to give this place 3 stars, but for reasons I'll state at the end, I don't feel I can justify more than 2. Overall, I was very happy with our stay there last week. This small hotel is conveniently located near quite a few metro stations, but we ended up walking to some places like the Louvre, Gare de l'Est, and Auber (the station we got on to go to Disneyland), because they were all within 30 minutes by foot. We also enjoyed the breakfast every morning, which consists of a croissant, a piece of baguette, a pat of butter, some jelly, a glass of orange juice, and your choice of coffee or tea. For us, the soundtrack every morning was a Josh Groban album. I'm not sure if breakfast is generally included, because the sign behind the front desk listed it as 5 euros, but it was included with our room, which we booked through hostelworld.com. The family who runs the place is friendly, too.
Overall, our room was clean, but there were a few problems. The shower was hard to work with. Even after adjusting it to the right temperature, it would get either extremely hot or cold, so I'd always have to stop and try to get it back to a good temperature. After our second night there, the shower got plugged up, so we had to have the manager plunge it for us. The drain rattled when we flushed the toilet sometimes, and the toilet also leaked a bit of water when it was flushed. On two nights, there were men shouting loudly in the street at around 3am. One of the employees who served us breakfast at times was also not very friendly. But I would be willing to overlook these faults and give the place 4 stars if it weren't for the poop. One evening when we came in, we saw something brown and kind of runny on the check-in desk. The family keeps cats and dogs in the hotel, so it was most likely cat poop, although it was a bit runny for that. Another night, we saw a lot of (dog?) poop on the stairs, and it was still there when we got up in the morning. Two poop-encounters in 5 days is quite a lot, especially considering the small amount of time we spent at the hotel.
Even so, I would stay at Andre Gil again, but first I would warn whoever I went with about the negative aspects of our stay. read more
