What a fabulous hotel! Rick Steves always reviews the best, and his was not the only one review we saw! Great hotel....
First - on the picture in our room, is information that the architect of this home, renovated into a hotel, was designed by the same man who designed the RijksMuseum! We spent time in the garden of the museum, and the next day spent a lot of time with all of the treasures there! Fabulous.... so no surprise that our room and the whole hotel, plus their garden, was beyond special.
When we arrived from our "Catastrophic Flood" river cruise, we were tired and just needed the bags in our room. We were early, but the awesome young hotel attendant arranged to get us a room that was ready. That meant we were in the attic. Sounds daunting, but it was charming! We had two windows that looked down on the beautiful buildings below, and there was everything we needed in our room. A small refrigerator, GREAT shower, nice, cozy bed and even a TV that we flipped through occasionally during our stay. It was cozy and spacious too!
The Hotel Alexander is so conveniently located! We walked to the museums and the canal cruise as well. The Flower Mart is not far, and we found lots of great restaurants and Stroopwafels, Pomme Frites (twice fried!), and of course tulip bulbs ready to take home! (Irradiated for the US customs.) The next day we also toured the Jordaan section, with lots of historical and beautiful sights. My fave were all the canals - which are just everywhere.
The bikes are not my favorite - but one actually does get a bit used to them AND some Dutch folks are very kind and wait for us to cross quickly. It's not so hard to figure it all out - it's just a constant - CONSTANT - concern to stay clear of the FAST bikers!
Hotel Alexander offers a lot - location, nice breakfast, beauty, comfort and a GREAT staff! They will accommodate you so easily! We thoroughly enjoyed staying here! read more
