Chicken on A Stick, Fried Rice and Mushroom Chicken-looks better than it tasted.
Darla M.

Super disappointed in their food. The meat dishes included very little meat and the flavor of everything including the fried rice tasted very bland, no flavor at all. The food looks great but it lacks any taste. The prices weren't bad but when the food isn't good, any price is too much.

Sweet and sour chicken (sauce not pictured, they give it to you in a cup), cheese wontons, beef and broccoli.

Hot Wok Express is great if you want something cheap and fast. Is it upscale and fancy? No. Is it cheap, pretty tasty, and fast? Hell yes. It's buffet style without being buffet style, if that makes sense. All of the food is in a case behind glass and you order by the scoop as you walk down the line. We go here fairly often and can get 3 scoops for two people for around $10, which is less than it usually costs us to go somewhere like McDonald's. Also, two tips: if you dine in (and they're not out) you can get hot tea free and they have a discount for UNC and Aims students. Definitely check it out if you're on a budget but craving some Chinese food.

Oops...didn't survive the car ride intact.

If you are a part of Corporate America, you have the distinct pleasure of The Long Conference Call. As luck would have it, this week included 3! Coincidentally, I've coined a phrase: Aural Chinese Food. Basically, the concept is that you sit, you listen to what is being said. At the time, it feels good and even filling...but an hour later, nothing. You are empty. So, blame this trip on 3 conference calls. The Aural Chinese Food somehow transformed in my brain for a yearning for some takeout Chinese. Over the years, me and General Tso have gotten down and done our share of hanging together, it is my default order when I get takeout Chinese. So with great expectations, I fired up Yelp and looked for Chinese takeout close to my digs for the week. Hot Wok Express is what came up as closest, so off I went to retrieve a paper box of my favorite Field Grade Officer. No joy, the General doesn't live here. Ok, how about some spicy chicken and some spicy pork? Toss in a couple of pork egg rolls and we can call it even. With large drink, the bill came to a grand total of $6.12! Bargain! If you are a local student at the Institute of Higher learning, the drink is free. Now for the bad news: It might be the worst $6.12 I've spent in a long time. The pork and chicken were bland but passable. The egg rolls, though, wow. Almost completely inedible. I had two in my bag, one has recently taken up residence in my hotel garbage receptacle. In retrospect, it is entirely my fault. Here I am in the land of Big Beef, countless options where I can have Copious amounts of Cow lovingly braised and presented on a hot plate and what do I do? Takeout Chinese. Life is a learning experience, so here is what I've learned: Keep the conference calls to a minimum and skip takeout Chinese at the Hot Wok.

I love this place! Their food is amazing they're always so nice and it really cheap. As a struggling college student it's hard to find good food at a good price and Hot Wok is just amazing. Me and my friends favorite eat out restaurant. Absolutely amazing!!!!!! Also the wontons are amazing!

Food is cheap and good for what it is but the people who work here can barely understand English and seem like idiotic most of the time

Today is Saturday. Decided to go to Family Buffet for lunch. Haven't been here awhile. Lunch opens…read moreat 10:30am. I arrive at 11am-ish. Weekends, it is all day dinner price of $16. Since I arrive when they open, I would assume that all their main dishes would be hot and fresh. WRONG!! Today, a lot of their dishes were cold and old. The Sesame Chicken looked and tasted like it was from 2-3 days ago and it was cold. The wings were very cold temperature and looks like it was from 2-3 days ago. The Beef Broccoli barely has any beef in it. The Pork with mushroom barely has any Pork in it. Most of the food Items I tried were like room temperature. They really need to turn up the heat in the buffet bar. The quality of the food here has gone down. I was so disappointed. One good thing about this place is the female staff that was serving the drinks and clearing out the table. She was nice and polite and friendly.

Wanted to take our food home and was told that we'd be charged extra to take it home(mind you our plates were not piled). Thought that was kind of crazy. Neither were we asked if we wanted the buffet or to order a meal only what drink we wanted. I would understand if it was more than one plate but it was just two plates between the two of us and they weren't even finished. Most of the food was cold anyways. When I brought the issue up they were rude about it. We will not be going back.
