The first time I dined at Hot Star, I was obsessed over the taste of the BBQ chicken! It reminded me of Bonchon, only it was larger and more satisfying. My friend and I split the bill and the meal, so I didn't have to spend so much. However, after a few more tries, I've begun to like Hot Star less and less. The chicken now tastes odd to me, and there's too much for the little amount of rice served with it, as though a ploy to get you to order extra cups of rice. I was convinced to pay Hotstar a visit thanks to their brilliantly photogenic chicken. There was a time when my news feed was bombarded with Hot Star's gigantic fried chicken and everyone who knows me well enough would know how the sight of fried food gets me weak in the knees. Based on the photo alone, I thought that their chicken would be more skin-y rather than the chunky white meat it was made of, so for that I was a little disappointed. We were looking for places in Katipunan where we could just eat and chill; he suggested that we have dinner in Hot Star. Hot Star looks just like KFC. It doesn't have lounge-y chairs or big sofas, but it's still a comfortable place to be in. Unlike KFC, it's not crowded and everything looks clean. If you need to study or you want to have some privacy, there's a diner booth where you can stay. We ordered their famous chicken breast fillet. You can choose if you want your chicken breast to be grilled or deep-fried. They also have appetizers, pastas, and sandwiches, in case you don't want to try their chicken breast (but really you should. It's so good). When my order came, I was so surprised. My mouth was just wide open when I saw Hot Star's "Large" Fried Chicken. They were not exaggerating when they said "Large". The chicken was almost as big as my face. The chicken was quite okay and it was only for Php 145, with the rice and drink. I ended up ordering an extra cup of rice because I still had 2/3 of the chicken on my plate with zero rice. I also had to take a couple of trips back to the gravy station. .After an hour or so, my friends and I were very full and satisfied with what our small amount of money got us. Before we left, we still had some space for a soft served cone. We were feeling a bit adventurous so we ordered a combination of Almond and Black Gulaman falvors. There is a Filipino word associated with this kind of place, "Solve" (usually pronounce Solb, which means very satisfied.) It was March 21, 2015--yes I distinctly remember since I was supposed to be in the One Direction concert but chose to accompany my sister to her first prom (I should get an award for this). But I was starving so large fried chicken looks like a marvellous choice! I went there with my suitor (a big shout out to you!), who kept me company while I was waiting for my sister. Yes, their chicken pieces are freakin' enormous and gravy is unlimited, but there's something a little off and dare I say artificial about the taste. I finished the meat on my plate but left the skin since that was where I noticed most of the weirdness was concentrated.
