If Jollibee and Bonchon had an illicit affair, Manang's Chicken would be their lovechild. PROS: Menu items that offer their delectable chicken but other Filipino faves too, like spaghetti and burgers; Double fried chicken coated with a special sauce that's "Lasang Bonchon" but sweeter and with sesame seeds. The chicken's big and the insides are juicy; They're in the same price range as Bonchon and 4 Fingers, but with unlimited rice! How Pinoy is that?; Their potato chips are insane. They're legit potatoes sliced thinly and fried to perfection, served with dips that can never be enough. CONS: We had their Triple Chocolate Cupcake Sundae and it was less than enjoyable. The cake itself was dry, like you had cake microwaved in a mug that tastes better. Guess dessert isn't their strong suit. TL;DR: The Filipino Bonchon has its own taste and a more Pinoy feel. Do not even attempt walking out of Manang's Chicken without having their potato chips. read more

Whenever you mention that you want to eat at 'Manang's in Katipunan', people immediately assume it's the famed cafeteria inside Ateneo. It's actually a safe conclusion to fall in to, but nowadays the Manang's I always refer to is the one outside the campus. On the ground floor of One Burgundy Plaza is one of the best double fried chicken variants in the Metro. What sets them apart from Korean chicken stars like Bonchon is that their taste is localized just right. The crispy skin has just a teensy tiny hint of sweetness but is accompanied by a garlicky spiciness. The kicker here is that the chicken cuts are really large as compared to other establishments, so you feel you're really getting your money's worth. Parking however, is practically non-existent. It's best to park somewhere else or go here on foot. You can also double park outside if you're feeling adventurous but I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Before Bonchon and Kyochon, there was Manang's. Huge deep fried chicken with cripsy skin that has the unmistakable Filipino sweetness. I love Manang's because of the big chicken parts, and because of the unlimited rice. Yeah, I sound so gluttonous, but I love eating steamed rice, and I always have to have a perfect chicken to grains ratio. Manang's is the best place to get flavorful chicken at more affordable prices. Ugh, now I'm craving! read more

Manang's selling point is the fact that their chicken tastes sweet. So what that means is that it perfectly caters to the Pinoy taste buds with how sweet it is. Really, only the Pinoy palette would enjoy the sweetness of it. I do love Manang's Chicken's skin, and a perfectly crisp chicken skin is always a kilig moment. For all the times I've eaten here, the skin has always been crisp and tasty to the tongue. The way it's fried has retained such good flavors in that skin and on to the chicken as well. Only complaint is that there are times that the meat itself can be dry. But even the sides of the potato crisps are perfectly crisp. Another thing that kinda sets this place apart is how they serve red velvet ice cream. I don't think there's any other fast food that sells red velvet ice cream, but Manang's is pretty spectacular. read more
