Went to Hot Stacks today 10-26-22 and the food was horrible. The plate looked like hospital food and just as bad. I left my entire plate and the useless waitress never asked how it was and what was wrong that I didn't eat my food. when I spoke to owner he was least bit interested how bad it was. This is your average diner. Service was great. Food however was just okay. I would rather have went somewhere else, but this was convenient. I live by the motto don't waste calories on food that's not amazing. The food did come in under 10 minutes, which was why I was surprised when my eggs were cold. We go to Hot Stacks every year when we visit the beach and we come back because the food and service are wonderful. They have a huge menu I can't imagine not being able to find your favorite breakfast or lunch. They are only open 6-2 and there is often a line but worth the wait. This visit I had the breakfast quesadilla and hash browns, the quesadilla was scrumptious it was served with avocado, sour cream, and salsa.  You chose your meat and the fill a tortilla with eggs (in my case) sausage and cheese and cook until golden. My dad had the eggs and french toast breakfast, the French toast is substantial pieces and he said they were tasty. I'm really hoping we came on an "off" day since we were recommended to go here for breakfast and was told that it's "so amazing". For a Saturday morning it was pretty slow but there are far too many pancake houses and what not in there area so there's lots of competition. We were promptly seat at a table for 8. It was just me and my husband at first and informed the waitress that the rest of our party was about 4 mins behind us. She stated it was fine and brought us coffee. The rest of our party arrived and she took the rest of the drink orders and brought everyone's drinks. So far so good. I'm not expecting amazing coffee when I go to a diner. I expect pretty average stuff. My husband is former service and drinks coffee black. He couldn't here.... it was pretty gnarly. No biggie. Cream and sugar it up. But $2.34 a person? Conversation is going great with our table of 8 when one of us realizes that it's been an abnormal amount of time since our server came... drinks were almost empty and we haven't had our order taken yet. I asked a passing server if she could send over our server. Mind you, it's not busy. Two servers are chatting with the cashier. Most people have already gotten their food INCLUDING people that came in sometime after our friends arrived. Eventually our server came back and made it seem like she was waiting on us. Because blaming someone else is always the answer. Food came rather quickly once we ordered. My husband got biscuits and gravy which were fine except there wasn't much gravy at all. So little that he made a joke that they must have ran out. I ordered a biscuit Florentine. Pretty much if biscuits and gravy and eggs Florentine had a love child without hollandaise. It was really. I was happy. My husband and I shared a pancake with apple pie filling. I really wish the apples were cooked a bit longer. It was more of eating slightly cooked apples with cinnamon sauce on a pancake but it was still pretty good. Over all, I'm sure we must have came on an off day. Went here for brunch on a Sunday. Food and service were mediocre. Despite there being several parties ahead of us, we did get seated quickly which was a plus. Greeted by the server but we were not ready to order and it was a while before we returned. Good came out relatively fast but was luke warm at best. My sausage was pretty burnt as was the "lightly toasted" toast. The food was expensive in comparison to other local places which offer better tasting food and service. I've never been to Hot Stacks but I've always heard about how good their Chicken Fried Steak is for breakfast. So, the in-laws came for a weekend visit and we went there for a brunch, since they were the ones building up the hype because that's where they eat when they go to N. Myrtle. We arrived around 9:30 am and the place was packed and the waiting area was filling up quickly. We were a party of 6 but got seated within 5 minutes. The waitress was friendly and sociable. We got our drinks pretty quickly, too. Our food was delivered quickly! Ordering time: I went out of my normal breakfast routine of eggs, grits, bacon, hash browns and toast, and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak w/ gravy with potatoes and eggs. Man oh Man am I glad I did! The steak was fried to perfection, the gravy was so thick and creamy and the potatoes and eggs just went well with it all! The flavor scale was off the charts, too! All 6 of us really enjoyed our brunch and will definitely be back for more! Miss Barbara had our party of 13 food right this afternoon! They accommodated our large party by quickly seating us and taking our orders. They didn't mess around with outfitting our table with the necessary condiments and silverware with extra napkins. Stay with me...these things can be important to some. We ordered everything from a fish sandwich with fries to smother chicken steak. The flounder was impeccably seasoned and cooked. The largest piece of fish I've been served in a restaurant for half the price of other well-known seafood establishments. The portions are generous and they have a lot of substitutions for items. Pancake was cooked beautifully and all food was hot. It is a mid morning on Tuesday which can be the difference. But, I can't imagine service and the outstretched hospitality being any different any other time. Some people just understood the assignment. Either way, they displayed very good customer service by adding another table to allow us even more room to stretch out. It was indeed a pleasure. When I stepped into this magnificent morning-mansion of pancakes, I did not expect the transcendence that was to follow. It had been cloudy and rainy the past few days on the Grand Strand. Understandably, my family's morale was quite low. This was our last day, and we didn't feel like cooking breakfast in our condo. We were emotionally pooped. We looked on here, found that Hot Stacks had a decent rating and was close by, and off we were to partake in some hopefully decent breakfast. Don't read this restaurant's book by its cover. Yes, it might look unassuming on the outside. Stepping inside may be like teleporting a decade or two in the past. But, it's charmingly dated. Think of going into your grandmother's house for a Sunday dinner. Furniture might be a bit dated, the walls might have strange colors. But it's Grandma's house - you know it's gonna be cozy and warm and she'll cook you an amazing meal. Hot Stacks is Grandma's house. We were quickly seated by a charming hostess, sat at our table, and were greeted by what was to become the absolute most amazing, charming and thoughtful server I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Barbara, as this descendent from the Heavens was to be named, is a national treasure. Talking with us, she could clearly tell we were on vacation and weren't in the best of spirits. Her conversations with us lifted our heads up, lifted our moods, and perhaps even parted the clouds and rain blanketing the region. She was expeditious as well, furthering this unbelievable display of servership. If you could get a PhD in this craft, she deserves an honorary one. Given the name of the establishment is Hot Stacks, I of course ordered some blueberry pancakes. Not too long after, Barbara brought me this amazing display of ante-meridian consumables. Blueberries were baked into the pancakes, placed on top, and a blueberry compote served on the side. Barbara fetched us some nice and warm syrup to put on top. These pancakes were phenomenal. My girlfriend ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes, which, I must say, made me jealous of her. They were exquisite. These pancakes have the perfect mix of fluff and crust, not too sweet, nice and hot. The bacon was great, too. Crisp, but not burnt. Awesome stuff. And, how could I forget the coffee! A good breakfast place must have good coffee. It's nothing extraordinary, but it was hot, decently strong, not burnt. Definitely enjoyable black, which is how I like it. Overall, this meal transcended our spirits from the dungeons into the stratosphere...and it is nearly all spearheaded by the amazing service and conversation we had with our friend Barbara. If you are ever feeling dumpy down at the Beach, take a trip over here and ask to be seated in Barbara's section. She'll make you feel right at home. read more
