He has been in a coma going on 4 years now but occasionally has situational awareness. Don's work on this flag is amazing. It is crafted out of wood, but to look at it closely you can see the fine workmanship that went into it. It is a combination of artwork, a painting, a sculpture, and a wood craft all in one. The greatest thing about it, in my opinion, is the personalization Don incorporated into it. It has my son-in-law's name on it, his badge, and his badge number is crafted right into the wood as well as the Illinois State Trooper's logo. I also especially like that Don did not go with the red and white stripes that you see on a normal fabric flag. Instead, he went with the natural tone of the wood with alternating black striping which makes it "pop". Nice work Don!!!
