After hearing that hot for pizza was the best in town I had to see for myself. We popped in at lunch time and decided to check out the cheese pizza. They have a sour dough crust which was pretty good. The sauce had a nice sweetness to it but definitely needed more. The cheese was burnt, which is not my thing. The staff were kind and accommodating. I liked seeing all the organic conversations between the staff and their customers. The vibe was very much "everybody knows your name" ! Aesthetically I'd describe the vibe as divey. There were cool black and white photos on the wall, grunge music pumping out of the speakers and layers of grim on the baseboards. Im not one to yuck somebody else's yum but this was a miss for me.
The pizza here is tasty but the images on their website don't quite match what you get in person. The lasagna pizza was good but didn't have as much meat and ricotta on it as the picture shows. The best pizza was the hot date one. It is so delicious with Brie, dates, some hot honey, which adds a little spiciness but is not too much. We were disappointed but the garlic knots, though. They were hard and clearly were not freshly made.
Pretty good pizza!! I had the Pepe le Pew and it was quite garlicky --but not a make your breath smell bad garlicky lol. The spot is really cool and divey. I love the decor of the black and white photos with celebrities eating pizza. My server was nice and everything was timely. I'll be going back to try more items on their very extensive and impressive menu.
My favorite place in Richmond for vegan pizza! They have so many options and everything is always fresh! The tofu nuggz are going to be purchased every time because they are so good! I have never had a bad experience and will continue to return to get my pizza fix!
Awful, Awful, Awful burnt overcooked dry pizza. I tried this place 3 times honestly based on some social media reviews. The 1st time it was very good got a pie kinda pricey because they charge per topping but didn't mind because it ended up being worth it. Returned again based on my 1st experience and the second time it was pretty mediocre, got wings in addition to the pizza both overcooked. I came a 3rd time honestly chasing the 1st experience and that will be my final visit. Bought 2 pies ended up coming out to about $75 (crazy right but again they charge per topping) but if it was going to be as good as my 1st experience I didn't care about the price. I got one pie just extra cheese and a second one fully loaded with a bunch of stuff. It was as if the cheese pizza pie had sat out all day and they just gave me that with the hope I didn't check the box which I sadly didn't. The other pie wasn't as dry but I assume that was only because of the veggies that made it a little more moist but both were terrible. I only captured pictures of the cheese. I tried to reach out to management by calling I guess they have no phone. I sent about 3 emails no response so finally I stopped by on my way home one day with the actual pizzas in the car just as proof. Spoke to the manager on duty and was promised a refund. The actual manager wasn't there I left them my number, the receipt etc expecting a callback and a solution. Nothing...no call back. Ultimately, don't be fooled by social media campaigns...don't eat here. Awful pizza & equally awful customer service. Save your money and don't pay something like $7 per topping on a large dry overcooked pizza. Attached is a pic of the "extra cheese pizza" tasted like coal.

My partner and I are long-time vegans and we LOVED the pizza here! We got the vegan Runnin' for Basil and vegan Garfield and omg, incredible! A perfect East-Coast slice; crispy dough through every bite and lots of flavor. Probably the best vegan pizza we've had in RVA! The vibe is pretty cool too: small, local bar with red lighting and DJ's on special nights (maybe Thursdays?). Fun pics on the tables and walls w/ 2 tv screens over the bar playing not-sports, which I thought was fun :) Service was great too - it's seat yourself and the staff were very nice. There was even some fun banter between staff that we thought was fun :) Overall, highly recommend!
I've gotten the Garfield pizza every time I've ordered from here. I normally get it delivered but decided to do pick up for once. There's street parking and luckily I was able to find a close spot. The bartender was so kind, nice and welcoming during our interaction. The place is chill and my pizza was ready when I arrived. Their pizzas do take a while but I think they're worth it.
We had a really great experience stopping in for lunch on a quiet Friday. Server/bartender was really great. If the receipt was correct, her name was Mel. Really good energy and super-friendly. The menu is extensive, so there's a lot of choice. What's nice is you can get the specials by the slice, since they can add the toppings on-demand. I went simple with a slice of cheese and a slice with sausage. My wife had a small alteration on the Hot Date pizza by dropping the date () and adding pepperoni. The crust is nice and thin, held up well, and was crispy. She loved her slice... So much that this week we're making pizza at home and she wants to recreate it. Drinks were good as well. One TINY downside was I wanted to get some t-shirts, but they didn't have the style I wanted. Sort of understandable as we were there just after Christmas, so they likely had a holiday run. Looks like they're not available for order online. Overall, I'll definitely head back next time we're in Richmond.
We went to Hot for Pizza on a Friday night and were quickly greeted and told to sit where we'd like. After being seated, we were brought dinner menus, and there was a cocktail menu, but no real beer menu, so it was hard to tell what all the drink options were. We started with the cheese curds, which were crispy and delicious, with marinara, which was flavorful and a little sweet. Next came the pizza- my bf got the pepe le pew, which he enjoyed, and I got the B.A.T. (bacon, arugula, tomato, drizzled with hot honey), which was so good. The crust was great- perfectly crispy and able to hold up to all of the toppings, and the hot honey on top of my pizza took it over the top. Service was friendly and the restaurant is cool. I dig the theme and the pizza names which are nods to music and nostalgia. Can't wait to come back to try more pies! read more

Delicious pizza - the sauce is a thicker marinara type but very flavorful and the homemade meatballs we added as a topping were delicious. The wings were huge and very saucy and I appreciated the homemade ranch. They had great drink specials (rail shot & a beer for $5 all day), fun decor (Van Halen themed) and the staff were attentive and kind. We sat at the bar and it seemed as if the people outside had to come in to order, get the check, etc. Note for parking: there isn't a dedicated lot but there was plenty of street parking. read more

Wow! I love hot for pizza. They have plenty of vegan options and the pies are large! We went on a Thursday around 8:30pm after a school event. Service was a little slow but the food was delicious. I can't remember the name of the pizza we ordered off the top of my head, but we did make it vegan. We requested half the pizza to have vegan sausage on it but the kitchen forgot to add it and we had tot request they remove the charge from our bill. The inside is fun and has a lot to look at. On the walls there are photographs of celebrities eating pizza alone with references from movies. Overall we enjoyed it. read more

This is a total dive - in a great way! This is a bar serving amazing pizza. Interior is small seats about 25 and there are 2 picnic tables out front. Although this seems like a place full of regulars as a newbie we were greeted warmly. There was a DJ playing retro music which I loved! Ordered a couple cocktails - dark & stormy and king built. Both were made perfectly. The staff was attentive and kept us informed so if you're reading review's that complain about service maybe it was an off day check this place out! The pizza we ordered was Van Zuylen- very cheesy, crust was crisp but still tender. I was there was more soppressetta but I know to request next time. I would also request the spicy sauce bc I like for my nose to run. The wait was a normal amount of time for a pizza. If you want a place to eat your pizza with fork/knife this isn't it.... Although they are accommodating and probably would comply! definitely stop in! read more

Special shoutout to our pizza of choice: Captain Planet. WOOWEE! There's a reason the whole pizza didn't last long enough for the photo. I'm mourning the fact it's gone as I write this. read more

We finally tried out @hotforpizzarichmond and our waitress was vegan so she told us about the tofu bites not yet printed on the menu. They were almost reminiscent of fried mozz because of the breading Also got a vegan fried eggplant appetizer, and we all got our own pizzas. So many vegan options. Friendly staff. Interior is small but clean. 2 or 3 outside tables. The food was all good. If you ask for roasted garlic ... expect a TON of roasted garlic. I heard good things about this place from a friend but was surprised by the mixed reviews. I'm not sure what the negative views are about because everything was really good! The overall vibe and aesthetic is great. Two servers were working and were attentive to all tables (moderately busy for a Thursday night). We ordered the Van Zuylen and it was delicious! The the savory sausage and prosciutto mixed with the spicy peppers. I do wish it crispier with a little less cheese because it was a little heavy, but still very tasty. Their ranch seems house made and was delicious. I wouldn't say this is the best pizza in Richmond but it's still really solid! I'd give the pizza a 7.5 out of 10 read more

The area is heavily college student residents, but if I were in college I think I'd be pretty privileged to have this as my break from the meal plan. I ordered online, and got a text when my pizza was ready a few minutes before the promised time. They are catering to the vegan/dairy-free customer, offering vegan cheese on all their pizzas at no extra charge, which is uncommon. Moreover, it is some local brand called "Unmoo", not the typical sludge that one might expect. I tried a pizza with that, and compared to a Chicago style pizza with dairy cheese. You could tell the vegan stuff wasn't cheese, but it melted very nicely and had a more complex and satisfying flavor than most vegan substitutes (the company's website says they age it). Indeed the biggest drawback is that it doesn't have much nutritional value, but with the kick of basil and some hot peppers, there were a few bites where I almost forgot it wasn't a "real" pizza. I say all this speaking as a lifelong vegetarian, and one who is all on board with the non-dairy milks, but someone who definitely likes cheese. The Chicago style pizza was more of a casserole. It is a real mess, but to be fair this is authentic enough. The cornmeal crust was tasty, but the sauce and cheese were 90% of the volume. It came with one free topping, and I was quite satisfied with the oyster mushrooms I asked for. Toppings were plentiful on both pizzas. Good price, tons of options, and friendly to all diets. Hard to imagine a pizza place filling this niche much better. read more

Had whatever this is delivered. It being THIS overcooked is not the delivery persons fault. This is TRASH! How DARE you send this out of your establishment. Try reheating that and see how it goes. I called to complain and you didn't even pick up so I'll leave this for everyone else to make their own decision. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY FROM HERE I got in my car to drive it back to them after they didn't pick up their phone a second time *just* to tell them personally they have no pride if they let burnt garbage like this out. They shrugged. Good riddance. Went down the street to grab a frozen pizza from Kroger's and I guarantee it will taste infinitely fresher than whatever they tried to pass off as fresh pizza here. read more

FINALLY - after almost 13yrs in Virginia (being from Buffalo, NY) we have found GOOD PIZZA AND WINGS! They guys had a personal pan and I ordered a medium cheese, pepperoni and garlic (Pepe Le Pew). I'm always up for pizza, particularly a new to me spot with pizza. I'd heard about Hot for Pizza, read a few reviews and slid by there the other night. When we broke through the front door, the smell of delicious pizza was stewing, we were starving, excited and I thought to myself, "This is going to be good!" The space was cozy, comfortably lit, smelled like the inside of a pizzeria, had fun music, etc. Staff was very friendly and service was a little lethargic, perhaps because the kitchen was moving slow. We had a Greek style salad to start off, that was delicious and the best part of the meal. We ordered both the Garfield and Van Zuylen Pizza. The pizza I was so excited for was ultimately a huge letdown. If you like frozen pizza from the grocery store this is your thing. The crust just reminded me too much of Tombstone I'd pick up and pop in the oven in college. Hardly any sauce to speak of, bummer! The vibe and space was great, the pizza was not. I'd go back to have some beers at the bar but I'll pass on the pizza. read more
