Had a sister bonding day, painting pottery. The staff at Hot Fired Arts were phenomenal and super helpful! When you first walk in you are greeted and presented with the various projects that the shop has to offer. After selecting pottery painting, canvas painting, or glass fusing you are explained the next steps. We each selected two objects to paint and spent the afternoon in the studio painting away. We go pick up our art in 10 days which is the processing time. The shop does have a strict 60 day policy to pickup within or your art is thrown out. A fun and unique experience! read more

My husband and I attended a paint your own baby Yoda class (because... who doesn't want their very own 50 year old smol alien?!) at Hot Fired Arts. It was great fun! Instructions were clear, supplies were all we needed and the instructor took time to help my husband when he fell behind (I mean, took his time). The space was set well for the crowd, and there was enough room that we weren't bumping elbows. Bring your own drink-- stop by a local brewery on the way or visit the Dunkin' next door if that's more your speed. As a comparison, this is much more of an art class than a Paint Nite experience, in my opinion. That was totally fine for us, as we planned more for the evening. The general selection of ceramics was a bit smaller than other local places, but they offer a variety of stuff to choose from. In addition to the adult paint nights, they also offer kids classes (two hours, drop off). We'll be back. read more

I was looking for something to do that was a relaxing activity in the area. I called and asked what was the latest time that I could come to paint and I was told 7 pm no later than 7:05 since they close at 8 pm. I got there about 7:01. The lady that worked there told me that I can pick my ceramic and that should would set me up. I picked my piece and waited at the table that she instructed me to sit at and waited while she worked on piece, handed out sponges to the other patrons, looked for paint, etc. After about ten minutes I walked up to her and said that she told me she was going to set me up and she said that after she checked out the people she would be right with me even though I had been waiting to receive my paint and supplies before these individuals where even finished painting. I was hoping that this would be a great activity but the customer service was very inattentive. She told me not come past 7 pm so that I would not feel rushed to complete the piece before they closed but she took her time giving me supplies. I just left. Maybe I will try when someone else is working or just drive to another place. So disappointed read more

I've taken 2 different classes (mandala dot painting and 3-legged pottery) at this place and they never disappoint! The owner used to be an art teacher so she knows how to teach people (like me) who aren't naturally artists to make something beautiful & personalized. Everyone who works here is incredibly helpful, patient and sweet. Classes are usually advertised on Facebook. Definitely worth checking out! read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The owner was rude and disrespectful to me today because I was not wearing my mask how she wanted though both my mouth and nose were covered saying I was 'polluting her air'. I didn't have it pulled up on my because it fogs my glasses and she had a problem with it somehow I was sitting there for nearly an hour. Also, the pottery is overpriced. Don't go here. read more

The time me and my friends had at Hot Fired was fun. However, the owner (Michelle) isn't to be trusted regarding quality of the pieces, getting the correct fit for pieces that are supposed to fit together (tree and base) or when painting the pieces and needing more paint she switches brands telling you it will be the same and the end product is very different (her comment, its the shop lights and it will look right when you get it home) don't quite cut it. If we hadn't paid almost $300 for the trees we painted it wouldn't be such a big deal. The trees don't fit the bases, the light kits are cheap and my friends tree looks blue because of switching paint brands by Michelle. To top it off we found beautiful trees with exactly what we expected at 1/2 the price finished, painted, better quality from an place in Williamsburg. Our visit to Hot Fired was the first and and will be the last and only visit. BUYER BEWARE! read more

Awesome place to have in Fredrick. Where can you go to express yourself artistically? Here of course, glass, ceramic, wax and even canvas mediums galore. Staff was amazingly helpful. Created our own ceramics. Can't wait to see how they come out of the kiln with our glaze work. Very laid back environment, quiet, and fun. My wife and I barely talked while we lost ourselves in our creativity. Perfect for date nights or with the kids. I don't recommend toddlers here though. read more

I used to go to places like this when I was a little kid and I admit it was part nostalgia (and a Groupon!) that had me going back again. I've been here twice now, once with a friend and once with my husband. Both times the employee working was helpful in telling us how the operation worked and giving us ideas. However, if you wanted to just paint and do you're own thing they were great with that, too. Painted items are usually done and ready for pickup within 5 days. Both times my phone call from them was in the evening. On Valentine's Day I know they had a date night with 10% off and on Thursdays they have girls' nights where it's BYOB and you also get 10%. Most cups, plates, and medium sized items are around $20 and up. I really enjoyed going here to be creative for two hours or so and enjoy friendly chit chat. read more

I went with my four adult friends. It was a fun activity on a rainy day. I was nervous that we might feel out of place without kids, but we didn't. Staff is friendly and didn't get annoyed when I was taking forever to decide/commit to a project. Prices are fair and even better with coupon. I like that the price on the pottery or glass fusing project is the total price- no additional math for a "firing" fee. Will come back on ladies night with a bottle of wine. read more

I haven't been to a paint your own pottery place since I was young. I liked the selection of items there were to paint. Prices were fair. Kim was wonderful. Took a week to get my piece back. You can also paint canvas or do glass tile work at this place as well. You can bring your own food and drinks. My friends and I will be back. read more

We were really looking forward to Hot Fired Arts, but unfortunately were disappointed with our experience. We had a reservation at 11am on a weekday. We arrived at 11:05. Even with our names and reservation time being posted on the table, someone else had placed their pottery on our table. Apparently another family had come in for a "to-go" order and set their items down. This would not have been a problem, except with COVID, I'd prefer not to have anyone's items in our reserved space. I then had to switch out one of the chairs at our table, because there were footprints all over it (I suspect someone stepped on the chair to reach a piece of pottery on a high shelf). We waited until 11:30 to be helped, because there was just one young woman working, and she was assisting the family with their to go order. Why have reservations if walk-ins get priority? I'm not sure if they were walk-ins, or scheduled a pickup time, but they weren't the only family who came in for a to-go order who received priority over us. When we were being helped, we were told by the young woman she would bring us water for our brushes. She forgot, and so I ended up getting my own, because she was constantly helping other families. All this to say, clearly one person is not enough staff to accommodate a full studio plus pickup orders. The young woman (Mackenna) was very friendly, but obviously overwhelmed. While tables were placed a safe distance apart, we still frequently had strangers next to us, because that was the only place they could view the pottery to choose their pieces. Based on what I read on the website, the owner has taken COVID into consideration by offering outdoor seating, to go orders, etc., so this was surprising and frustrating. I was hoping to give my daughter a special day for her 4th birthday, and this missed the mark. read more

Just had a girls night/birthday last week at Hot Fired Arts. We painted the MD crab which seemed intimidating but they outlined it so it was more a paint by number style painting. Kim was wonderful. She helped us and kept it fun. I would highly recommend the private parties because they are intimate and not much difference price wise to the large 20+ group paintings. Can't wait to go back sometime soon! read more

I had a very hard time enjoying the experience due to the vulgar language projected throughout the studio over their radio. Where it was a CD or satellite radio, I was greatly disappointed that the person "in charge" was ignorant to the fact that there were children in the studio while curse words echoed repeatedly over the radio. Sure, I could have brought it to her attention, but that would have also brought it to my child's attention and I was hoping to avoid him picking up on it. These are not words he has ever heard, and at 4 years of age, are grossly inappropriate for him to hear. ESPECIALLY at a place that many parents take their children (I hear they even do birthday parties). I rushed my son through his project as I cringed every time the vulgarities were projected. Maybe this is an isolated incident, but the owners should really speak to their employees about what is appropriate and inappropriate music to play when children are present. The employee working at the time certainly and grossly lacked in the area of common sense and would benefit from such a discussion. read more
