Mr Hot Dog offers two dog options on the menu (though you can create your own as well) : Texas Dog with cheese, onions, and special chili mustard sauce and Texas Dog with onions and special chili mustard sauce. My wife and I had one of each - they were grilled and delicious. The sauce is really good. Mr Hot Dog also serves ice cream, makes shakes, and has daily specials ranging from home made meat loaf to various hot sandwiches. The gentleman behind the counter who greeted us kept us on our feet with a mix of wit and humor. The woman who took our order and served us was very pleasant and helpful. Attentive, warm service - how nice. Mr Hot Dog delivers on its brand experience and for that, plus the tasty dogs and the good service, I give it five stars. We were traveling home to Ohio from the east coast and this was a much nicer, more fun experience than slogging into a fast food restaurant from the interstate. Very much worth the few minutes extra to get there.

I swear the dogs taste the same as they did 40 years ago. Delicious! If you love a good chili dog this is a place you'll want to stop. Nice people, great service and even better prices. The food and service is very consistent. It is a small place and a little dated but it is clean and very easy to get in and out of.

WDG is the perfect place for a brunch/lunch and if they were open post bar closing for the college crowd, the two women owners would probably be millionaires. The dive bar like place with maybe 15 or so crowded chairs for seating has the kitsch on the walls including a model train set, airplane wing above the grill, streetlights, and classic rock blasting. The menus are 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of colorful double sided paper. Hot dogs on one side and burgers on the other. They have many options and then some sides like the great Mac and Cheese that's homemade. Sodas are in the fridge, chips are in bags next to it, and everything tastes great. WDG has been open for seven years or so and the two owners said they can get super swamped at peak times. One said today they had an order upcoming for 80 hot dogs just before closing time. Yes, 80 dogs for parent's weekend next weekend for Susquehanna University which is right around the corner. The burgers are smash style and only come well done. Our choices of the Texas Patty Melt and Mushroom Swiss were excellent choices. The Patty Melt was sweet with thick Texas Toast. My mushroom Swiss had nice sized mushrooms and a big bun. Your choice of one of two patties for just a couple more bucks. The homemade Mac and Cheese was creamy with all white cheeses and hit the spot. Owner said it was top seller. No fries here or onion rings. $36 not including tip for three single burgers, one Mac and Cheese, and three cans of soda. Highly recommended. I could see this being a place when busy to be patient because it'll be worth it!

I had been looking around the…read morearea for a place I had never been and one that offered something that I really wanted to eat. When I saw Altoona's Original Texas Hotdogs pop up I didn't have to think much more about it. Located in downtown Altoona, this place has the charm that you would expect to find in some bustling metropolis. However you have it here in Altoona, one of Pennsylvania's biggest cities but with a small town feel. I walked in and made my way to a booth, I was greeted on my way to my seat and told someone would be with me shortly. I sat down and looked at the menu on the table and made my decision fairly quickly. The employees in here are friendly and keep an eye on everything that is going on. Once they saw that I was done looking over the menu someone came to my table to take my order. After placing my order I felt very welcomed here. Every thing I asked for was followed by a "sure thing hun" or "you got it." Waiting for my food I looked around a bit to check this place out. There is the counter that you can order take out from or pay on your way out. Behind that is the grill and fryer where all the food is prepared. Off to the left of that is a counter top to sit at. There are booths along the one wall and some table tops between the booths and counter top. There is also a seating area to the rear of the building. After my look around the restaurant my food arrived. Two Texas Dogs and an order of Chili Cheese Fries. Medium drink to top it off. That came to a reasonable price under $10. The dogs were a bit onion heavy but palatable. I love a good chili and they definitely nailed that here. Not too greasy and the meat was really fine and you could eat this like a soup. Add some mustard and these things are ready to go. The fries were swimming in goodness. Fresh fried these are then topped with a generous portion of both chili and cheese sauce. You need to eat these with a fork unless you are alright with getting a bit messy. One thing you'll need to know here is that if you are getting food most of it comes on paper plates, unless you get a bowl of chili or a side that would soak through, everything is disposable here. Another thing to know, if you pay with a card you will be charged a fee.

I used to come here with my grandmother. A few years back while home for a visit, my mom and I stopped in. Today, I came by myself and it's the same as ever! It's just a basic diner/lunch counter with plenty of dark wood booths. They are known for hot dogs and rice pudding, and I used to love their pulled pork sandwich too. I got a hot dog, which comes with mustard, onions, and special sauce (don't ask, just do it); a pulled-pork platter which includes fries, and a rice pudding. All that and a soda for less than $10. Awesome. The hot dog and pulled pork are as good as ever. I love their fries too--real, honest-to-goodness hand-cut french fries with the skins still on. These things were super-hot from a fresh frying and tasted 95% like potato and 5% like fresh vegetable oil. Damn good. The rice pudding is just as I remember. It's a bit runnier than most, but the quality is superb. Somehow they get big puffed-up grains of rice; it's not like the hard little bits you end up with when you make rice pudding at home with Uncle Ben's. Make sure to tip the ladies well in here; they work HARD.

For some reason, I just recently visited this place for the first time and man -- I'm mad I didn't come sooner. I like burgers -- I like them traditional style, smashed, and with various accoutrements. The State has all of that covered. The restaurant is in a cool historic building and they've preserved some of that history while adding updates to give the place a nice and trendy feel. The staff were friendly and super helpful. You order on a piece of paper by selecting the patty type and size, the bun type and a boat load of sauces, toppings and other fixins. Reminds me of the old school way of ordering an MTO at Sheetz (for anyone that gets that reference). Beyond the burger we tried a milk shake, the fresh cut fries and onion rings. My first visit was spectacular. For two of us our bill was under $30 -- which was beyond reasonable. State Burger -- I think you've nailed it and I can't wait to come back!
