Hot Bagels is not bad at all. Been here a few times for a solid bagel and some coffee for breakfast. Certainly one of the more reliable bagel cafes in this neighborhood. The pricing is very reasonable, when you compare it to Manhattan. It's astonishing how much a bagel with lox and cream cheese can cost in the city, but here, it will run less than $10. Their bagels are fresh and large, airy inside when toasted. They have a variety of flavors, from whole wheat, pumpernickel, egg, poppy, etc. The cream cheese variety is not terrible either. So far, I just go for the scallion and/or dill. The jalapeño cheddar cream cheese is really great, with a tad of spice and hints of strong cheddar. Overall, a solid cafe for bagels and some coffee. I have to adjust my rating because they have such a great selection of Boar's head cold cuts and cheeses. Yes sir this is a good bagel. They were out of pumpernickel when I got there on a beautiful Saturday morning; so, I got the rainbow, which is really just plain with food coloring in the dough wrapped up into a delightful package. Had the scallion cream cheese, which was also delicious! The toasted option is the way to go. The neighborhood has been starting to get swanky places around but this place hasn't changed their prices and remains my go to spot when I'm fiending for a turkey club on a bagel at 2 am in the morning when I can't find anything else (they are open 24/7). I've been in here at 5 am in the morning and seen construction workers in there getting there sandwiches made for there day shifts maintaining my theory that if it's good and it's cheap - the working man, firemen, police officers, and mailmen know a good spot when they find it. After a post snow storm morning of teaching with little more than 2 Lincoln's to my name, I was envisioning a meaty, spicy, cheesy, and tangy Turkey Sandwich on a bagel. Walking down Church Ave. towards the G train the "Hot Bagels Deli" caught my eye. Being from Bushwick I jumped on the Yelp app to check if it was worth the schlep. Oh boy was it EVER!! I walked in, ordered right away and had a $4 Pepper Turkey, with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, spicy mustard, salt, pepper, and vinegar, sandwich on a fresh baked everything bagel in my hand in under 2 minutes! I grabbed a drink, and a croissant from the front case. I would have given 5 stars but the croissant was a day old and a dollar more than I should have spent. I'd ask if the croissants are fresh, or just know they get delivered on a Thursday and not Friday to save yourself from future disappointment. Lots of pro's to this place: I can get whatever I like 24 hrs: Sandwiches, eggs, bagels, snacks, sodas, cookies, chips, tuna salad, cold cuts, coffee, hot cocoa. They sell a sparse amount of groceries (milk & bread - great!). They are right around the corner. And they really DO have HOT bagels! A few con's that I won't really hold against them: The ice cream selection could be better. A few of the guys that work there don't listen when you ask for something. You are likely to walk out with too much milk in your coffee when you asked for a little, or a bran muffin when you asked for a raisin bran muffin. Like anywhere you go, just make sure you watch what they are doing when they give you your stuff. I wish they also made hamburgers. That would be a dream come true. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The customer service is extremely surprising. Two young adults or teenagers, I couldn't tell, were extremely rude to me while I ordered. I just walked out of this place because people who came in after me ordered before me. This is the third time this happened. It happens because the business doesn't make it clear where to stand in line - and they don't keep track of the order folks came in. What they do is shout into a disorderly group of waiting people, "who's next!?" Then the crowd has to fight among itself to decide who gets to order. I've participated in this fight several times to claim my rightful spot in the line day, and two other times, I just didn't feel like having a confrontation with other people first thing in the morning so I walked out (and went to Soho grill in the next block). The bagels in this place are good- three stars. Unfortunately, in this day of yelp I wanted to give a one star overall because I just hate the line management situation. I love this place. They make their bagels fresh every day, and continue throughout the day as well. The staff is insanely friendly, and will insist that you don't get your bagel toasted if it is fresh out of the oven (they're right by the way, although I do like it toasted when I get cream cheese).
