Sushi places are like cheesesteaks, a dime a dozen in Philadelphia, so much so you'd think it is another iconic philadelphia cuisine- besides soft pretzels, hoagies and water ice! Hoshi- is Japanese for Star, and clearly they make each sushi as an art piece that deserves a golden star! We all know that the sushi experience is a very personal, therefore, Hoshi's promises a good quality Japanese food and prices hard to beat. Their "grab and go" from the sushi bar are excellent. Try the Avocado Wrap, Shrimp Tempura or the Crunchy California roll. Add one more dollar to your sushi to make it a combo, and you will get a spring roll or two steam dumplings and a drink! Four and half Yelps!

Cheap, fresh, honest- love this place! They make everything right in front of you. I'm obsessed with the avocado wrap- so healthy and delish.

I got an Alaskan Roll (salmon and avocado). You order at the cash register - there aren't really waiters or waitresses. I suppose it's good value for the price and casual/cheap atmosphere. If you're looking for something really cheap and fast this is a good choice. Good lunch if you're in a rush, but I wouldn't come here for dinner or as a social outing.

Very good poke and sushi. Only thing is it's hard to get for dinner since they close at 3 in the afternoon!

Delicious, clean, and unpretentious. A little gem near Jefferson. And healthy! I enjoyed the salmon lunch, with brown rice. Oishi!

It's the usual center city parking situation - try your luck with street parking or park in one of the decks. This place is pretty low key but way more spacious that it looks from the outside. It's relatively "no frills" when it comes to vibe as service, very casual - definitely not fine dining, lighting is a little harsh. We got the Love boat for 2 - which comes with one miso soup and one salad (so hopefully you're willing to share or maybe one of you only wants soup and the other wants salad). The boat was ok - didn't really hit the spot in the way that I had hoped. Karaoke rooms are open and pretty loud but they sound fun. Maybe I'll come back and check those out but I likely won't be back otherwise.

I had the rainbow roll because it had a BOGO offer, making 2 rolls only $16. However, the rolls were SMALL and basically just a California roll with a tiny sliver of fish on top. Two was the perfect amount for me and I don't eat that much, so I would've been quite upset if I'd paid over $30 for that. Aside from the price and size, it wasn't very good. There wasn't much imitation crab inside (which is relatively inexpensive anyways) and the fish on top wasn't very fresh so I ended up taking it off. The salmon sashimi pieces were also half cooked? Super weird... Maybe the food would be better in person, or if I didn't order sushi for takeout, but I probably won't be coming back here :(

They have really great options to choose from on Happy Hour and their regular menu! The Bao Buns & Steamed Dumplings did not disappoint! I was full after those two options but the HH menu had plenty to choose from. Fresh sushi is also prepared as you walk in! Beautiful dim lighting right at the entrance. That was my first time having that beer, not bad. I switched over to a special cocktail made my the bartender; great customer service! The host was also incredible with his greeting and recommendations. The place is clean, spacious and cozy. I say the bar, much space and many TVs. Check it out!

My sister recommended this pan-Asian restaurant. We made reservations for dinner and were promptly…read moretaken to our table. The restaurant serves modern Asian small plates meant for sharing. We ordered the crispy chicken bao buns, crispy shrimp, general tso soup dumplings, wagyu beef, Korean bbq beef, and hamachi ceviche. We were a group of 3 so one thing that was nice was that our waiter added 1 additional skewer/bao bun for the meals instead of ordering 2 plates of them. Out of all the food we ordered the most delicious were the meats; the wagyu and Korean bbq beef. They were so tender and lightly seasoned because the beef quality itself was good. The Wagyu beef was paired with an apricot dip that was really good. The chilli crisp chicken bao was also good but didn't have much sauce, so it was on the dry side. It was supposed to have chilli so we expected it to be spicy but it was not. We all really liked the crispy shrimp--it was truly crispy. The sauce and the radish paired really nicely with the shrimp as well. The one meal we did not enjoy were the soup dumplings. When we got them they were dripping of raw dough and had no soup in them. The waiter was kind enough to replace them but we still didn't really enjoy them. I did not try the hamachi ceviche because I'm pregnant but it was also a favorite from the group. For dessert we had the mini ice cream cones. The waiter again added an extra one for us. The flavors were chocolate banana and mango. They were good, small bites. One of them melted so quickly and fell on the table and the waiter was really kind and got us a replacement. I did use the bathroom and absolutely hated it. It was unbelievably dark in there and there were weird sounds playing in there. I went in there to make sure I didn't have food in my teeth but couldn't even see. Super inaccessible, hopefully that's something that can be changed. The service overall was clearly excellent! I would recommend this place, especially if you come for the meats. It was surprisingly filling too.
