I needed a replacement gas stove installed. Not a new stove, just swap out the old stove for a new. I live in a community where a county inspector needs to check the work before I get a certificate of inspection. This certificate is needed before I sell my condo. Horizon Services gave me a quote for install that did not include the price of the permit ($155). This is a big change in price, and their bid was not competitive with the added charge, but I didn't know they hadn't added this charge until the tech had completed the work. My mistake, I should have verified. The tech did not install a tip bracket, and he should have, and without this bracket, the install failed inspection. The tech has been out a total of 3 times. I still do not have the inspection notice. It has been 3 months now and I can not sell my condo until I get the notice. This is HORRIBLE service. I wish I had chosen someone else. read more

I called in June for their $59 AC tune-up. I was disappointed that the first available appointment was Aug 2 but I took the appointment anyway. two days ago, I received a call asking if my AC was broken or was i just looking for the tune-up. I said just tune-up. So they informed me that they are swamped with A/C repairs and they need to reschedule if just the tune-up. So i just lost my summer getting my AC tuned up because they are more interested in $500-$1000 repairs vs supporting their own tune-up special. Further, i wrote a review on their site, but it never showed up. I wonder why. I'll shop elsewhere read more

My AC fails right when the temperature reaches double digits. I call horizon to schedule an appt. They say they can come out in about a day and a half...fine, i can live with that. When they get to my house, the technician says they don't service rooftop AC units. Nothing like sitting around for a company that has limitations in what kind of jobs it will take. Would it have been so hard to ask, "Mr. Martin, can you tell me where in your house your AC unit is located?"..? I'll take my business to a company that uses common sense, and isn't afraid of a ladder. read more

i called horizon two times First time was for a broken coupling that's made out of pvc They wanted to charge me 700 to Install it I question it then they drop to 500 after i signed up for a service contract.... the part only cost 6 bucks The second time was my burner control went bad They charge me 1400 dollars on a control that cost 70 dollars These people are so greedy and its ridiculous I will never call again and I will always tell my story on what a horrible business Horizon really is read more

Extremely overpriced. Their service is good but way too high. We had a salesperson come out for an estimate. His presentation was 2 hours and wanted to show a video. We simply wanted to replace an existing AC. Sales person gave us a price to be honored within 2 weeks. Also wanted to know what why would not give the order today. A professional will sell what you need. A huckster will sell you as much as they can for as much as they can. Welcome to Horizon. Shop around. There are plenty of good HVAC companies out there. Don't get suckered by sales pressure, warranties, etc. The biggest slap was when the sales person asked how much we wanted to spend, The range was 8500-1600. That ended the session. Pay close attention to the other negative reviews. They are real time!! read more

They are the biggest rip off Don't go here They have to big of an overhead and take it out on their costumers Tried to use them three times each time they gave me quotes three times as high as other plumbers. I called Horizon a while back looking for someone to provide me an estimate for work needed. Despite their professionalism and friendliness over the phone, I was informed this company will not serve potential customers within the City of Philadelphia. I believe this should be clear in their very visible ad presence on television, etc. I posted this previously and it was removed by Yelp despite Horizon having given a very polite response to my message explaining that they currently lack proper permits, etc. to work in Philadelphia city and that they would look into it. I hope this updated post provides enough context and helpful tips to remain posted. I believe informing potential customers in a massive city that they will not for the time being be served by this company whose ads they see all the time, is a useful tip. read more

Ill start off with the good - the guy who came out was at least friendly, though not so knowledgeable on full services. He was the boiler/heater tech which is what I mainly called for anyway. So he arrives within a reasonable time of my appointment, first let me say they wouldnt take the coupon off from THEIR OWN WEBSITE for a 40$ visit to get an inspection / quote. It cost 80$ just to come out and he said the coupon would only be accepted if I accepted the other services. Pretty dishonest to start. Anyway I dont know the cost of these things, but after I got all the quotes etc, it seemed each of the parts were being charged at four times the actual cost. To get the boiler running a friend told me that all I needed was one part replaced which regulates the water coming in and out. He was able to find it for about 250$ (it was quoted at 850$ for that part alone), and installed it for me and my heat was working. Over all the whole quote was around 8000$ for a repair vs 12k for buying a whole new system. I'm glad I didnt go through with it. They stated I needed all these additional parts to get the unit running again which ended up not being true. Anyway my heat works now and I saved myself the money. I try not to be a completely negative person so I wont give 1 star at least the staff was professional and friendly. They showed up on time as well. However I wouldnt recommend their services to anyone at all as they are taking advantage of people who do not know the costs of things. read more

the plumber told us that the leaking water from our toilet was clean water when it's actually water that's being flushed. this should have been basic 101 plumbing, but he was dead wrong. believing the leaking was clean, we did not contain the leaked area or sanitize as well as we would have. and now our whole house is contaminated. and my elderly parents and I have unknowingly touched biohazardous materials. deeply disappointing. and downright dangerous. extremely unsatisfied. read more

This is a true story., I work for a major University in the Phila area and we own many homes on and off campus. I called up Horizon to get a quote on a small (33k btu) steam boiler for one of our homes. They said hold on and let me ask if we do that. .. They get back on and say no they they only do residential properties. I explained it is indeed a single family home even though its on University property. Hold on again.. She came back and said that they do not do third party properties by universities.... huh!!??... I said WE own this home, its not third party. I said I guess you don't want our business and she hung up on me. Amazing how they stay in business. read more

A few weeks ago, we had a pipe clogged which caused a back up in my basement. After waiting for over 12 hours to have my home warranty company assign a company, I decided to call Horizon and I was glad I did. I got an appointment for 3 hours after I called. Colin from the drainage department came out and tried to snake the line but unfortunately could not unclog the pipe. Derek came out a little over an hour later, diagnosed where the clog was within 10 minutes and provided me with his options to unclog the pipe and what he recommended. Derek was professional, knowledgeable, and made sure I was informed throughout the process. Derek is one of Horizon's greatest assets in the drainage department. read more

You know what they say....you only get one chance at a first impression. Needless to say, I was anything but impressed. I called to inquire about an A/C repair. Now let me add, I COMPLETELY understand it's impossible to diagnose and quote a service price over the phone, and I told this to the phone rep. So instead, I asked for the price of a hypothetical repair (you know, so I could do a little comparison shopping?) "How much would it cost for a technician to come out and add 2 lbs of R22 Freon to my system?" Well, I got the runaround. "We used to quote prices but no longer do so, since we'd find additional things that are needed, and the customer wouldn't understand why the price went up, blah blah blah blah." So I asked again, "Ok, but how much would it cost for a technician to come out and add 2 lbs of R22 Freon to my system?" "Well it's $79.50 for a dispatch, then our technician will come up with a cost after he makes a thorough assessment of the problem, blah blah blah blah." Figuring three's a charm, "You mean you can't tell me how much would it cost for a technician to come out and add 2 lbs of R22 Freon to my system?" The response was "blah blah blah blah," as far as I'm concerned. Instead, I called my local furnace oil dealer, and after being passed on to a more knowledgeable person than the receptionist, he explained, "It's $99 for the tech to come out, then $100 for the first pound, and $72 for each additional pound." Then we discussed the pros and cons of just adding Freon and/or other repairs, vice purchasing a new system based upon the age of my old system. It's all called being an educated customer, and Horizon obviously wants their customers to remain plum stupid. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Purchased their AC start up for a buy one get one next year price and the tech says it'll be over $1200 just to get it up and running, $3500 to repair it and we should just consult with them for a new air conditioner. We got it up and running for $125, from a local guy. Total crooks. read more

I put a 1/4" valve on my compressor and the tech said it will leak since 3/8" is the right size. He said the whole valve cost $1766. The charges keeps changing...he said 2 lbs of freon costs $254 but then $297 when I remind him the coupon, more than 2 lbs will cost me $638 even 2.5 lbs because he said that's the standard rate and it was a fixed price. So I end up recharged my ac with 2 lbs. Before that he can't accept the coupon since I'm not a Service Partner but I said it didn't say in the coupon that I have to be Service Partner. Even the scheduling department is not consistent. My first call asked me to choose time of service and I pick 8am, past 8am I called, the agent said there's no fixed time it must be from 8-noon. read more

What a bait and switch. We were lured by a $89 checkup of our furnace. We had to pay twice that because of two furnaces. The technician found so many ridiculous things wrong with them. He came back a month later to check out our A/C and 'service' it. He couldn't check the blowers because it was too much work to get to it and would cost us an additional $300/system. Not sure what he serviced. He changed the filters with ones we had on hand! It wasn't necessary since we change them monthly. Once again, made the same recommendations from before and this time the prices were a bit higher. Stay away from these people. read more

I found the salesman, Joe, rather nauseating. He was at my house three hours and 12 minutes, which is at least an hour 43 minutes too long. He kept talking about himself, mentioned how he eats his own salads, how he left a $4000 sectional at his last house and needs to buy furniture, the list goes on. Annoying. He should have been in and out. When the thermostat was installed, there were several black fingerprints I had to clean off my wall. Then, there was a sign implanted in my front lawn; nobody asked if they could put their advertising on our grass. We live in an area where this is not allowed, and the consequence is a fine, which, if received, will be paid by Horizon. read more

This is the worst plumber I have ever hired. First of all let's discuss their on time guarantee, they guarantee they'll show up within a four hour window, yes on time means within 4 hours, what a joke. Secondly, they do not give you any type of estimate over the phone even for a routine installation and you must pay a service charge to schedule the appointment and have them show up at your house. When they show up their estimate is 3 times what you would normally pay a plumber and they try to sell you some worthless maintenance plan. They use hard sell techniques and call the boss to try to get the price down, it's worse than buying a used car. Avoid this business at all costs, they spend a ton on marketing and rip you off in the end. read more

I called about a toilet that wont drain. I told the guy my sump pump been actively dispersing foul smelling water and I think it's all associated with my toilets and drains. The plumber had me sign an agreement before he did the work. He did exactly what I already did. He snaked the toilet. He flushed all the toilets and the water rescinded. When he flushed the basement toilet it wouldn't drain, again. The sump pump went crazy and spit a ton of foul water out. The plumber says, " yeah I don't know what's going on, that's weird, let me make a call" he says someone will come to run a camera line through the pipes but I say to him, "wouldn't they just see water?" He could not answer and suggested I just replace the toilet as a fix. After he left I cancelled the extra service solely based off his incompetence. They charged me $100 bucks to waste 20 minutes of my time and I had a feeling the next guy would've charged more and I still would need a plumber. read more

I wrote myself a note to wait six months and re-visit this post. I can tell you that since my post I was contacted by Horizon. They offered their apologies for this experience and acknowledged training is in order. They also sent a technician to fix a few leaks around the coils above the furnace. Mind you, the technician had to borrow our caulk gun, but I was only happy to work with him to fix the small leaks. He was a gentleman. They also offered to honor the rest of my coupon and have since sent us a check for $250 to complete the $500 coupon value. I am very happy with our central air unit. I will definitely give them another chance when the opportunity arises. read more

I called Horizon because I saw their advertisements. We needed to get our propane furnace running. They were on time and put their little booties on... great. He opened the furnace and looked at it like he was lost. He then tinkered around for a while and said you need a new inducer. Our "Flat" rate for that repair in my little book is $950. I said that is insane. Can you tell me how much the actual part cost (the way a mechanic does with your car). He could not. Can you tell me how long it will take to install, "About 30 minutes". So I am thinking this is a very expensive part. The part shows up 1 hour later (he didn't have it on his truck like they say they do) and I do a search online. The part is only $235. So why in heaven's name are they charging me $950. I call the company right away. The guy installs the part, but the furnace still won't work. He leave and says someone will call me to fix the problem with another tech. He left the $235 part in my furnace and drove away. I called a local guy who is highly recommend and he actually spit out his drink when I told him how much they were charging me. Turns out it wasn't even the inducer that was bad. I will NEVER EVER, EVER use Horizon again, and they are such scam artists I will spread the word to everyone I know. Update: I just had a local guy come out at look at the furnace. Turns out it wasn't even the part Horizon wanted to charge me $950 to put in. It is something completely different that is only a $50 part. Maybe if Horizon spent as much time and money on hiring good people as they do on their advertising, we would not be in this situation. read more

I'm a real customer. Got a new heating system recently. Although the prices are higher they do a good job.

Horizon is just amazing. My Daughter and Son in law had a huge job completed by Horizon in Hatfield PA. The commercial says you only pay the quoted price. Companies never stand behind what they say. horizon does 100%. I can't say enough about the technicians who came out to replace the entire waste pipe from street to house. The job ended up being a lot more than originally thought. They only paid the quoted price. Highly recommend Horizon. We use them for our heater service contract in West Chester and trust them. They always do a great job!!! Thank you Horizon!!!!! read more

7/8/21 - I modified this review as I finally got a call back from Horizon Services. We had an major issue with a gas leak due to a new hot water heater installation that was done incorrectly. It took 5 days to receive a call back and to get the situation addressed. On three separate occasions I called trying to speak to customer service/manager and even tried the chat feature from the website and each time was told someone would call and it never happened. Horizon in the past has treated us well however it seems whenever there is a need to speak to customer service or a manager no one is around or available. Their services are not the cheapest around and in the past we decided to pay the higher rates hoping for better service, work, technicians, and feel like they are quick to pick up the phone and take our money, but not so quick to rectify things if there is an issue. If you read through the other reviews here it seems sadly that I am not the only one stressing this point. If your service/installation goes smoothly with no issues I am sure you will be happy with their work, but if there is a problem get ready to wait and put in a bunch of effort to get in touch with someone to assist. Hoping that this changes as it's not only about the quality of work performed, but supporting that work and being there after the install for the customer. read more

I had Horizon's come out and do a service on my HVAC unit. They found some issues and wanted to offer me a quote on a new product. I figured since my unit is 10 years old it may make sense to get a replacement. This is where my issues began, the quote from Horizon was over $6000 higher than all the quotes I had. When I mentioned it to them the dropped the price $5000 dollars almost instantly. This huge drop tells me something is wrong with how they do business. Horizon was $15k, while three other competitor were right in the 7k-8k range. I would stay away and have others quote you . They seem to offer super cheap tune ups to get themselves in the door and then do their best to scare you into buying expensive products from them. I ended up needing to spend $150 to get my unit up and running great. read more

Very prompt and professional. The plumber arrived on schedule and he was very friendly; however, the pricing was just ridiculous. I suppose we all make mistakes in life and this was one of them for me. I had 3 issues one a sink in the kitchen and stopping the bathroom faucet from dripping which required replacing the shutoff valves. Total cost 800 dollars for one hour of work. Perhaps I'm naive, but I think this price was completely out of line. Yes, I knew the price, since he told me before he started. I would not call this company again. Remember this is a competitive market and shop before you buy. The pricing is just out of line for the skill required to do this job. read more

Appears Horizon can pay to remove negative reviews: My review was removed but I will keep posting it: I called Horizon Services because my heater ceased working, the tech should up early so I was happy about that. The tech checked the unit and went over it with his volt meter. He determined the transformer was bad and needed to be replaced. I was quoted 614$ for them to replace the part plus the service charge. If I signed up for the Service Partner plan they would waive the Service charge and the cost to replace the transformer would only cost 513$ + 99 for the Service Partner Plan. At this point it was a friday and no one else could make it out till the following day or later so I decided to go ahead and have them replace the transformer. The transformer was quickly replaced and wired in, the tech switched the circuit breaker on (the one in the air exchanger) and everything fired up. At that time we noticed a crackle noise coming from the circuit breaker. The tech then stated I needed to get that replaced as well, it was going to cost another 600$ for the heater kit. At that time I declined the service as I was going to get my normal HVAC guy to look into when he got back into town. So I paid and the tech left. Later I decided to look up the part the tech put in place. To my surprise the part can be purchased from my local hardware store for $31. So I Called to find out about the price and to determine what part of the service cost so much. I finally heard back from a manager the following monday and she stated its flat rate pricing and it is non-negotiable, I was told I would get $99 back for the service partner plan. So I wasnt really happy but was going to be happy with getting $99 back and learning a life lesson. Well I get home Monday night and the heater was off again. I thought maybe I tripped the circuit breaker on the transformer the tech installed, but that was fine. I checked the breaker that we identified as being bad and found if I pushed it the unit kicked on, when I let go it kicked off. So I was able to push it a certain way and the heater would kick on and stay on, but this got me thinking, maybe the transformer wasnt bad to begin with. So I grabbed the old transformer and my volt meter and started testing it. Everything tested fine, so I Called my HVAC guy and he agreed with my findings. I called a local electrician and he also agreed with my findings. So at this time I ordered the defective circuit breaker replacement and placed a call into Horizon to talk to a manager again. On Friday I still have not heard back from Horizon and my circuit breaker came in so I went down and wired in the new breaker and also reconnected the old transformer, the one they said was bad and charged 564.50$ to replace. Turned the main breaker back on and everything is working fine. So not only did they misdiagnose the problem, they replaced the wrong part and did not fix the original problem. I Called Horizon back Friday night only to be told there are not managers at night or on the weekend and then the girl answering the phone refused to give me her name and hung up on me. Also their tech stole my screwdriver which has NOT been returned to me 2/18/14 - Horizon finally got back to me and is giving me a full refund. read more

Horizon came out to do some heater repair and did a good job and overcharged me in my review of the invoice. For example, I was charged $953 to install an auto fill with back flow preventer valve which is available online for $75. For a zone valve and power head I was charged $785 for a part available online for $179. To purge my system the cost was $506! I called Horizon and was told that they do not charge an hourly rate but the costs include lifetime warranty and disposal of old parts. I was told that a supervisor would call to discuss my concerns but I received no call back! Would I use them again, NO! Horizon did good work but the charge was exorbitant. On time service and orange shoe covers do not justify the charges for this job! read more

Called Horizon on 1/23/15 to repair a leak under the sink. Sean a young Tech arrived put on his booties and proceed to the kitchen. He assessed what needed done. My wife had to leave the house so it was just my in-laws and he tech. Being that they were both elderly, Sean sprang into action writing up a quote to replace the leaky garbage disposal and the corroded pipes under the sink. He came back into the house and he proceeded to tell my mother in law that it would cost $1150 to fix the leak. She was floored at the price and refused service. Tech was clearly taking advantage. The tech immediately contacted his supervisor worked out another price of 700.00. Funny how the price can drop when they think a sale will be lost. My mother in-law still refused and just told them to bill here for the service call. Technician was disappointed that he could not close the deal. After all of the drama was over, I was able to stop by and take a look. I took a few pics and went to to AP plumbing distributor where I purchased a garbage disposal and replacement PVC pipes for less than 130.00!! What a joke. This is the same distributor that Horizon uses as well...It does not cost 1k to install a new disposal and the few pipes needed to correct the problem. Beware of this company. Don't get sucked in by the 18 million dollar advertising budget as they have to pay for it somehow. Step up and refund the service fee as you caused more grief to innocent folks. read more

Had coupon for a $39 A/C tune up so scheduled an appointment. Tech arrived showed him the 2 units outside. He then told me it would be $39 for each and that I was only schedules for 1 A/C tune up so he could only do 1. Confused, I disagreed saying it was $39 for both as no where on the coupon or in their add did it say the price was per unit. When I scheduled appt I was not asked how many units I had. I called the office, talked to manager and got same story. Deceptive advertising, will not use them ever, not trustworthy. read more

I never write reviews. However, after a horrble experience with a different plumber and a collapsed ceiling afterwards I was very pleased and relieved to have found a respectable company. My only reason for giving another star is that the particular technician they sent did one thing that NO ONE had done and that was take me through each function of the thermostat. No one ever told me it was the dealer code on the one menu that was the passcode. Because I knew that the last technician set the propane back up lock out temperature incorrectly. they had done this twice before - I had propane being wasted, because they had propane set to run when temps were 40 to 50 degrees!!! Not impressed: the owner or someone of management spoke to my husband and stated that out of ALL the service records; all but two service calls were related to us having no propane? Really? Okay so the multiple service calls in the summer for the A/C were related to that? What about when the compressor went? Was that related? Or I know, was the first part of March when we had 20% propane left per the Horizon tech when he was here to replace said compressor? Oh maybe your confusing a propane issue that was actually caused by a tech at installation - where gas was LEAKING? I'll be pulling the service logs as well to address directly with them - trying to pass the buck on our propane! read more

On Thursday night our air conditioning unit stopped working. We called Horizon because we have used them on a prior occasion for an issue with our heater. We were told that he had never seen anything like it, that we may need a whole new unit, but that he would talk to his supervisor and call us back the next morning. We never received a phone call on Friday. We called Horizon at 1p and 5p and were told that they couldn't get a hold of either the tech or the supervisor. I called again Saturday morning and was told the same thing. **we decided to go with a smaller company at this point! who came out in less than half and hour and fixed the problem an hour later...NO NEW UNIT*** Oh and it's Sunday afternoon and we still have never received a call back from Horizon.
