I set an appointment close to 12 months ago for Dr. Mankoski to see me. Got a call from their office saying he could not see due to he would be out of the office. Stated it would be another 6 months to get in to see him. The Dr. cancelled the appointment, NOT ME! Sent email notes asking for them to reconsider the reschedule time line. NO ANSWER. Pulling up with my 75 year old mother after eye surgery, Lisa was coming out with her purse and jacket. She noticed us and offered to go back inside and get a wheelchair. She came back and then offered to take my Mom in as well as get her checked in while I parked the car. Can not beat customer service on this level. Coming up on 3 full years of blurry vision since my Synergy IOL implant in the (cataract affected) dominant eye. Since surgery, have been through two YAG laser treatments and then LASIK procedure on the same eye. The LASIK was performed to a lens prescription that was tested for some 45 days and did improve distance vision. The LASIK only improved the very near focus (10-36") and made anything beyond dashboard distance even more of a blur. I cannot read a license plate from 60' away. Street and road signs impossible. The doctor was initially attentive but has since cast me off. I had no complications with either surgery or the YAG procedures (IOL replacement was completed @ the hospital, all others were office treatments). General comments - the Cotswold office is always busy and average time to see the doctor after checking in is on the order of 60-90 minutes Good luck - read more

They go the extra mile while you are under their care & staff will always get back to you & work with you to make sure they can accommodate all of your needs. The Doctor is very thorough & he cares. The only complaint I could have, the wait in the waiting room can be a bit timely, BUT is it even a complaint!!! They're busy for a good reason. Their customer service is one of the worst I have ever experienced. They said they have called me multiple times and left me messages and it is all untrue. They never called, they never left a message. I ended up reaching out to them and it was too late to keep a surgery appointment. The are totally uncaring and unemphatic to a patient's situation. Have been coming to this location for close to 9 years and have never experienced such unprofessionalism and lack of accountability until now. The contact lens associate, office manager, Lisa, and someone by the name of Kelly who I was thrown off to, who seemed uninterested and unprepared for even providing a call back on behalf of Lisa. My son last went to the location at the end of May before summer break. Was told his contacts would take 6 weeks to be available. Losing track of time during the summer, I realized I was never made aware of them being in office for pickup. I called early August and was met with pushback from the contact lens associate. She asked if I would like to just wait until his next appointment in October to then use his "new rx". Why would I want to wait two more months when I've been waiting and now school is starting? When I asked that, she then became snarky and condescending in asking "well, can he put them in now?" And "the last time he was here, it didn't seem like he wanted them" so at this point it seems like they were never ordered. Never acknowledged why there wasn't a call made, never apologized, never took ownership. I left messages for over a week with "office manager" Lisa who never returned my call. I then received a call from a Kelly, which was pointless. She had no clue what was going on and after I mentioned everything, she had the unmitigated gall to say "it was he/say she say". While I appreciate Dr, Daugherty and his attention to my son's eye are over the years, I won't be disrespected and pay money to a business where the staff couldn't care less about providing customer service and resolution. I went today to Horizon Eye Care in Cotswald to see Dr. Tomasko for a severe eye inflammation and dry eyes. I also have scar tissue under my left n by ûupper lid, resulting in the lid turning in along the lash line, causing my back row of eyelashes to stick to my cornea. The front desk vand assistant wee very pleasant and helpful Dr. Tomasko said my eyes were so inflamed he was get concerned. He removed 10, 12 eyelashes from upper and a few from lower. Good solid comprehensive eye care center. My dad see a retinal ophthalmologist that is nationally known. Dr. Ridley is top in her class and don't be surprised if your appointment with her is rescheduled as she responds to emergency surgery situations in the Charlotte area and New York City. Se is all business, do don't expect hugs and kisses, but do expect that she knows her stuff. I have been to two facilities of Horizon, the Park Road and the Wavery location to see Dr. David L. Smith. He is quite a personable fellow who gave me a very thorough exam for my after-cataract. Diagnosis was that we needed to wait a year before lazing it out. See him next year. Horizon also has locations in Cotswold, Huntersville, Mooresville and the University area. The doctors shuttle to different offices each week, but, the appointment desk knows where each doctor is on any given day. Excellent diagnosis and treatment for eyes. read more

Hi! To anyone that complains about the wait...it's worth it! I was legally blind and found out from my eye doctor to go see Dr. Rosen at Horizon. After many tests and waiting..I found out I had Fuchs Dystrophy which is hereditary. I had to have cornea transplants. I would have become blind if I didn't have surgery. Dr. Rosen spends time with each of his patients as long as the patient has questions or he needed to check things out. My vision now is 20/20. I was released from his care today. If there is a problem..he told me to not hesitate to call him. I will truly miss Dr.Rosen...Carol...Lacey...Cheryl and also Zaru! This practice is amazing!! Waiting for some things is worth it! My 3 children have seen Dr. Daugherty for years. He is the most knowledgeable, capable and caring doctor anyone could ever ask for.

Waited 2 hours to see Dr. Minnal today (appt time 9:40, arrived 9:30, saw doc at 11:42) then she told us we should make an appointment with another provider because she is too busy seeing other patients with "problems" We were there for a routine exam after 2 cataract surgeries. The check in person, Lisa???, had us sign paper that said we needed to pay for "refraction" This is fine if you need glasses, Minnal herself said we didn't yet the very slow check out person said it was due since we signed paperwork. I had gone to Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat and got a full eye exam but my eyes are not adjusting from near to far as often happens after 35. So when I correct for my nearsightedness it ruins my ability to see near. They tried monovision but I just couldn't get it to work. I was curious if torric lenses might work for me and I decided to ask some questions at horizon eye care before I made an appointment to make sure they were the practice for me. I knew they would not trust the exam I already had and would make me pay for a whole new one. I asked to speak to someone before I made an appointment for the full exam and everything. The woman who fits the contacts came out and seemed very annoyed to have to answer my questions. I just wanted to know if they sell torric lenses, are they even an option with astigmatism, has their practice had success with the issue I am having... perfectly reasonable questions. It would be super annoying to pay for another whole exam and waste my time just to find out that it doesn't work for astigmatism or has a low success rate or something. She was very short and kept saying "it just depends on the individual." Well obviously it varies by individual. She could have said, "we have had good success generally with astygmatism and torric," or no if that is what happened with the other contact fitter we probably wont be able to help either, it works in about 60% of those cases...." Not how a business should treat potential clients... Rude and very unhelpful. Go to another place where their goal it to help their clients. Ruins your day when someone acts like that! read more

You can make an appointment and take off work to find out they never booked your appointment and they never apologize for 'THEIR SCREW UP!' I honestly really hate to rate Horizon so low, because the majority of the doctors here are fantastic, but the experience I had during a follow-up today with Dr. Ryder was absolutely unacceptable. I left the office in tears all because he didn't want to add screen-time work accommodations for me (even though he did just three days ago, but it didn't include a treatment end date, which my job requires). He was extremely rude and even implied that I was avoiding work. I highly recommend that you go to Horizon, and also highly recommend that you see anyone else but Dr. Ryder. read more

Nothing but great things to say about Dr Gaskin....great and timely service from him for many years.

Dr. Daugherty is my child's optometrist. We've been seeing him since she was a baby. We've been to both this location and the Cotswold location and Dr. Daugherty and the entire staff have always been courteous, helpful, professional and go above and beyond to provide excellent care of my child. He even performed corrective surgery on my child and gave me his personal number if I needed him for any reason while my child was going through recovery. I couldn't say enough about how pleased I have been with him and every person we have come in contact with in every capacity of the facilities and the hospital experience. I felt it important to give them the praise due for their exemplary service to us and want to reassure that the rating of 2.5 stars is not reflective of my 4 year experience with them. The wait is understandable because Dr. Daugherty takes exceptional care of his patients and also has to deal with emergency situations with his patients while we have been there and he has always had several patients to see. That right there is an indication of an excellent Dr. We've never been ignored or forgotten and everyone has always been very communicative in any situation that is out of the norm. I see Dr Gaskin at Park Rd (routine exams & cataract surgery) and Dr Patel at Waverly (cornea cell implantation) and I love them both. Park Rd is indeed busy and the wait times have been a little lengthy but then I have Dr Gaskin's undivided attention for as long as it takes! Waverly location is relatively new and wait times r good and Dr Patel is caring and personable. I'm having some problems with the new cornea tissue attaching but Dr Patel is right on top of the situation and he and Dr Gaskin are accessibly to me at any time and respond to my needs and questions. I am giving a 4 instead of a 5 only because I would appreciate a call from the Park Rd office if appointment times r running late. read more

My wife went in today to get an updated test done on her glaucoma for surgery because the one she did last year in August was expired after 6 months and had to be redone. Her appointment was for 9am but we did not get there till 9:06am. My wife checked in and about 25 minutes later they called her back. I went with her as they took us to another waiting room in the back. From there we went in and spoke to I assuming an assistant of the eye doctor. My wife had an extensive test done on her as after all her tests she was not able to see for a while. From there we were told to go to another different waiting room and we did. From there I noticed how this was done to everybody who was there but it did bothered me to see so many older folks doing the same thing. Going room to room and it was so crowded. So the third room I mentioned this to my wife about how they operate there business shuffling people to waiting room to waiting room. A normal conversation between husband and wife and the assistant stepped out quickly only to return with the eye doctor. Doc came in and stated it seems you have some concerns. I explained to her we do not but that it seemed odd that all these people would have to travel to approximately 4 different waiting rooms and that I felt bad for the older folks trying to navigate all over the place. Then she stated I do not feel comfortable doing surgery on your wife. I then stated this is my opinion and not that of my wife. Nevertheless she stated I will not be doing the surgery and that we must find another doctor. WoW that is crazy....... read more

I'm actually being generous with this review. The eye doctor was great but the glasses department was less than professional. First time I dealt with Horizon it was at the Charlotte location. I waited way over an hour of my appointment time because they lost my paperwork for my exam. I was trying to get glasses after my exam and the service sucked. I later called the manager and complained and she told me about the Pineville location. Sandra was better and I purchased a couple of pairs of glasses. Recently I went to Sandra to have the nose piece that got bent on my sports glasses repaired and new nose pads put on. She straightened the nose piece and replaced pads and got everything adjusted. When she was done she gave the glasses to me with the lenses covered in her hand and finger prints and never offered to clean them. I should have had her clean them but other customers had come in. Later at home I cleaned them to go for a hike and discovered that there were feathery scratches all over the center of the lens which could have only been caused by laying the lense down on something. My point, if you have choices of places, choose the other. I won't be going back. read more

My husband and I have been going to Horizon Eye for several years and the patient care is acceptable. The customer service in billing department and front desk staff are not. 1. I had an outpatient surgery in one of their offices and all seemed to go well until we received a bill for the procedure. Horizon Eye had apparently mixed up my chart and claimed that my husband had had the surgery instead of me. He was billed for the procedure as the patient when he has never had eye surgery of any kind. He visits them for annual eye exams only. It took a few weeks to straighten this out with the staff. 2. Last year I went to Horizon Eye - Pineville for my eye exam. Checked in at the front desk and was asked by the front desk employee to present my insurance information and complete a few forms. 15 min later I was called back to the desk by the same employee and informed that my BCBS insurance is no longer accepted by Horizon Eye because it is located out of state. We have had the same insurance for years and Horizon has always accepted and been paid by our insurance without incident. My employer's corporate office is located in Illinois and our health insurance provider is BCBS of Illinois. Apparently this information was overwhelming to the front desk employee and she wanted to get rid of me quickly rather than figure out how to deal with a situation she had not encountered previously. Luckily I caught the eye of a hovering supervisor behind the desk and she corrected the employee. The employee was told that she needed to accept the insurance card. She began reading the information on the card like it was new to her. (Don't know what she was doing for that 15 minutes that I had waited. They didn't appear to be too busy.) She began squinting at the insurance card and complaining that the print on the card was too small for her to read. I immediately saw the irony in this situation since she does work for a group of EYE DOCTORS! Fortunately an assistant called my name to come back to the exam room and I was spared having to read every line of the insurance info from the card to this woman. I was sent back to the exam room and received my eye exam. All was well until I started asking questions about an issue that I was having with my eye related to a surgery that Horizon Eye had performed 5 years ago. The doctor and his assistant told me that all records older than 4 years are shipped off to storage and that he could not answer my questions. He did not have a complete chart for me and did not know anything about my appointments and procedures prior to 4 years ago. It makes no sense to me that a complete chart would not be pulled and waiting for my appointment in the exam room. The appointment was made several months in advance so Horizon knew that the doctor would need my chart. Customer service appears to be lacking at this practice. read more

I would not recommend this group to anyone. My 4 year old son was seen here. In my opinion, the doctor lacked bedside manner and seemed as if he was in a rush to move on to his next patient. My son required special testing for his vision so I would have expected timely follow up with results as I was told but this was not the case. Overall, the staff was unprofessional and the wait was long. They even forgot they dilated my sons eyes. Also, when we to look eyeglasses, the lady assisting us left to help someone else despite the fact we were waiting a long time,she had called our name and we had questions. Kitty ( an employee at Horizon) failed to call me back as stated on 2 separate ocassions. I have been wearing glasses for over 20 years and have never seen an office like this especially when it comes to pediatrics. We ultimately went to another group for glasses and further follow up.
