I spend a great deal of time at The Domain. I asked myself why while I was back at the Domain…read moreagain today. The Domain is now a sought-after destination - where shopping (casual and high-end), dining, night life and other fun experiences converge. You can go shopping, meet a friend for happy hour, or do something completely fun and adventurous in the course of the day or evening. One of my Finance groups hosts a monthly Finance meeting at The Domain. Shopping...some of my favorite fun stores are at the Domain such as J. Crew and Anthropologie. I love these two stores because they have unique goods at great prices, in general, and specifically, have amazing sales. If you are a big baller, you can shop at stores like Neiman Marcus, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany's and whole host of other high stores. I'm a tiny baller. Smile. Dining - At the Domain you can get reasonably priced foods to high end fare. Some of my favorite places to dine in the Domain include Glorias, Flower Child, Paul Martin's and Haywire. Important to note, most restaurants have great happy hours and associated amazing prices. Nightlife - Some say that The Domain (especially on Rock Rose Avenue) is the new 6th Street (known for its bars and Live music). I would not venture out that far. However, if you want to party in the wee hours of the night, you can do it at The Domain. Fun Experiences - You can transport yourself to fun such as IPIC movie theatre, Museum of Illusion or the Battle of the Games. Last weekend I discovered the Barkin Creek Dog Kitchen & Bath...so, The Domain is not only for humans. Love The Domain...I am sure I will see you there!

Outdoor mall with lots of popular stores like Neiman Marcus, Lululemon, Alo, Anthropologie, Bath & Body, Aritizia, and many more! An exclusive store that you can find here is the Coach Coffee Shop - there are only 2 in the US (New Jersey & Austin)! A lot of the retail staff are friendly and there seems to be stuff going on during the holidays, so definitely check it out. Also, lots of parking garages.

When you think of the Arboretum, you likely think of businesses from Capitol of Texas Highway and Research Blvd including Great Hills Trails and Jollyville Road areas. This area has evolved over the 25+ years we have lived nearby. Some anchor stores include the Cheesecake Factory, Soma, and Chico's in one section of the Arboretum. Another Area include Target, Jason's Deli and World Market. The Arboretum also includes stores like Hallmark, La Madeline and TJ Maxx (for all the Maxinistas). The Renaissance Hotel is a notable hotel used for special events and conferences and has been around as long as I can remember. You can find just almost anything in this area of the city. We lost some key businesses like TGIF, Macaroni Grill, Pier 1 Imports and Gap. However, places like Trader Joe's and Modern furniture have been great additions. The mix of stores is nicely balanced between... local and national level businesses. The layout is especially walkable with places to sit and relax. The green space at the Arboretum is truly a highlight from picnic areas near Amy's ice cream to the Arboretum duck pond. The Arboretum offers a plethora of business to frequent. The Arboretum, in general, has moderately priced goods and great customer service. We welcome you to try our niche of Austin.

I was in the middle of a full on fashion emergency for a gala, and Nordstrom Rack may have saved…read morethe day. The dress I originally planned to wear did not work out, so I ordered another one. It's technically floor length, but I'm 5'10" so it stops at the ankle instead of covering my feet. So now the shoes have to be stunning enough that no one will even notice the hemline. I ordered a pair on Amazon that were supposed to arrive Friday. Then I got the dreaded update that they were delayed to Saturday... at 10 PM. Well, that's not going to work. So I made the mad dash to Nordstrom Rack Saturday morning. I walked in with low expectations, fully prepared to hit multiple stores before finding anything close to what I needed. Instead, I found the most gorgeous Badgley Mischka crystal pumps. They're slightly bigger than my normal size, but that actually works in my favor. They're comfortable, my toes can move, and I can already tell I won't be plotting my escape from them halfway through the evening. While I was there I grabbed a strapless bra and even found a formal bag that works better than the clutch I originally planned to carry. Sibyl at checkout was the perfect finishing touch to my morning. Friendly, outgoing, and genuinely helpful. The whole experience felt like the Nordstrom culture of service I studied back in graduate school.

Nordstrom Rack (NR) is the discounted, off season, & overstock-selling little sister to the iconic…read moredepartment store known for its high quality fashion brands and top tier customer service. This NR has been around at Gateway between Container Store and Whole Foods in North Austin since 2009, the first to arrive in our region. The focus is apparel, accessories, and shoes, with a little bit of cosmetics, body care, and travel supplies on the floor. Our family has been shopping here for years as a reliable, low-hassle source of decent wardrobe staples for the business casual office, last minute travel, or special events. I personally loathe the mall and massive department stores, so NR is my choice when I need to get in, get what I need, and get out with no distraction or delay. My husband loves coming in here for high quality dress shirts & shoes, and he especially likes the speedy on-site alteration service. If you enter the Fitting Rooms area, at the back of the men's aisle on the right, you'll see someone sitting at a sewing machine, hemming away. Be sure to join the Nordy Club to "rack" up rewards for purchases. See what I did there? Lately I've been preparing for a summer trip to a cool climate destination, and I wanted to refresh some well-worn capsule wardrobe staples with some durable new items that I'll be able to wear for the next 20 years. It was so nice to be able to do this shopping confidently from the comfort of my home using the NR app on my phone, having access to the entire NR retail inventory, then having my items shipped for free to my local store for pick up (suck it, porch pirates!). If you do ship to store for pickup, skip the checkout line, and follow the big stickers on the floor paths that direct you to the Fitting Rooms for pickup. A team member will scan the code from your phone & go retrieve your items, which will be carefully packaged & wrinkle-free.
