Fun times at Clover + Maven's grand opening.

I attended their grand opening celebration a few weeks ago. The owners are super nice and seem excited to be a new addition to the community. The vibe was fun and collaborative. They had raffles, a hip DJ and a Photo Booth. Looking for gifts for yourself or others? This shop was packed full of unique finds. They had gorgeous glass cacti that really caught my eye. There was also jewelry and art made by local artists. Parking is ample since there is a huge lot. While you are there, check out the other cool spots at Springdale General.

A shop full of charm!…read more Raul welcomed us in with genuine delight, offering to hold our bags up front to "free our hands" and encouraging us to touch, feel, pick up, try on, and interact with all the pieces in his shop. He spoke of his collection of artisan goods from around South America with such pride, and it showed through in the beautiful curation of the store. It was full of goods yet gave each piece the ability to shine. It was vibrant and colorful, warm and inviting. SO many brilliant gifts to be found here. Will definitely be back, if even just to say hi to Raul!

A lot of current trends have their genesis in these designs and handiwork, so make sure you're buying the authentic product, rather than a shitty knock off made in China. It's worth making the extra effort, and the prices here are very reasonable. A couple of examples: - Thick "friendship" bracelets, in a myriad of colors - Bib-style, beaded Cleopatra necklaces made from seed beads - Tribal print textiles - Wayuu bags from Columbia (You've seen these - they are the brightly-colored, patterned bags that have a bit of a bucket shape) Raul even took the time to show me how to spot a fake Wayuu bag, just in case I decided to purchase one elsewhere. Overall, an incredible store. I'm headed back to buy a bracelet for a friend who saw my Corocoro purchase on Instagram and wanted one of her own!

Something I've been paying attention to especially when shopping at a local business is customer…read moreservice and friendliness. I'm not sure if the gentleman who checked me out was the owner or a regular employee. Regardless, he did not have a friendly disposition when checking me out. (I am a woman of color for reference) he didn't even greet me which is a simple courtesy. I had to ask him "hey, how are you today" to which he didn't respond and just told me the balance I owed. My fellow friend (white male) checked out right after me and he greeted him! He also asked him how he wanted his items wrapped. (We both had the same items) If the store itself wasn't so nice and full of good merchandise/gifts I would've given it an even lower rating. To management: please know and remind your employees that even a simple hello goes a long way Edit: This seems to be a trend going years back (looking at reviews) with this business and their discriminatory practices. There are better local shops with less AI slop to patronize

My brother in law (BIL) will be visiting us in Texas from Chicago for the summer starting in June…read more I was supposed to return to work after vacation on Tuesday, but I am too jetlagged for intensive work. Thus, I will not be starting back to work until next Monday. I have some time this week to recover and do a little scouting for things to do for my BIL. We have taken my BIL to most popular spots in Austin, however, we were looking for some new things to do. Thus, I headed to the Austin Visitors Center located on 5th Street near Congress. Let me be the first to say that the Austin Visitor Center has completed changed since I was there last. The last time I visited they were giving out maps, bluebonnet seeds and other trinkets. It is a full-on operation now...y'all! The Austin Visitor center has transformed into a one-stop shop for travel info, local recommendations, and shopping (yes...shopping!). Shopping includes clothing, hats, magnets, stuffed animals, to name just a few. Wow...I was not ready for this paparazzi of items. Other services include free maps and guides, tour booking services, free Wi Fi, restrooms, charging stations and luggage storage for a small fee. In addition, their coffee shop, 5th and Brew, is a nice respite for tourists. The space is large and spacious. The ladies in the Austin Visitor Center were super sweet and helpful! Such a pleasant experience.... Great space...excellent services.

When friends and family come to visit, I send them here (or I sometimes accompany them)…read more You can get anything here, from gifts and souvenirs to maps and coffee (they have a cafe). Tours are booked in and out of the center as well. A good idea if you only have limited time in Austin and want to see as much as possible. It's truly a welcoming place and a great representation of our city. I also like that there is a large room with comfy seating to rest your weary feet after a day of sightseeing, or to prep for your day of exploration. I can't say enough nice things about this place. It's clean and modern. The staff are so incredibly knowledgeable about everything related to Austin. Super friendly too.
