They must be doing something right. Good Lord, they have been in business as long as I can rememeber......and I am almost 70 years old. My grandpa use to go there and buy chicken feed, fertilizer and all kinds of stuff. I've used Horaney's for a number of years and I find their seed selection to be very organized and plentiful. Prices are higher than other businesses of this type but not outrageous. My only criticism is the counter help. I recently wanted to make boxes to mount nutcrackers in for Christmas presents. While sitting in front of a competitor's store where I had found the nutcrackers, I called Horaney's to get their price. The lady put me on hold to check the price and told me they were $4.00 less than the competitor so, needing 4 of them, I drove the 7 miles or so to Horaney's. When I arrived, I found them to actually be $3.00 MORE than the competitor's price. When I asked about this, the lady said she never checked the price but rather guessed at it. Sadly, after almost 30 years of shopping here, I can find adequate seeds elsewhere. read more

First of all, I'm surprised that Horaney's has no reviews, since it is THE locally-owned feed-n-seed for Longview and is a longstanding business with even a street named after it!! That in itself says that this business is somewhat of a local institution. So I have to give at least three stars just for that. I also think their chick rearing room is GREAT!!! I love the warmness of....a warm brooder!!! And the peeping of the little chicks is adorable!!! It's very clean and the temperature is just right for the chicks!! The chicks are healthy and appear happy and it is obvious that someone takes care of the brooder room. The ONLY point of criticism I have is that I believe Horaney's devotes too much shelf space in the store to herbicides and insecticides, many of which are located on shelves that are just outside the door to the chick room. So you can't help but whiff the chemicals even just going in to look to see what breeds of chicks are in this week. No thanks I'd really rather just see little chicks along with seeds and tomato trellises etc. I would like to see more space for general farm stuff like planting materials i.e. seeds, starter mix, as well as general farm stuff like horse tack and stuff for training horses and fencing etc. as well as actual animal health items.....just less chemicals and herbicides overall..... Obviously chemicals have their place in certain situations but it seems there is too much shelf space for herbicides etc. Also a couple of the people at the counter could be a little more friendly. One woman said she "rarely" went into the chick room. Well if you can't stand the very MILD fuzz-dander-whatever from little baby chicks how can you stand smelling herbicides all day?? read more
