I got the bbq chicken quesadilla and the French onion soup. Both were really delicious. The grandkids like it here too. The chef salad looked pretty good here as well. What happened to the place we used to enjoy? 1. Service: A waiter in the bar area told us to sit there for faster service since the dining area was backed up. We ordered queso dip, fish and fries with garlic tots, and a chicken bacon sandwich. It took 30 minutes to get a small portion of queso and nine chips on my side of the plate- the least I've ever been served from any food establishment . The queso was the only good part of the entire experience, and that was pushing it. 2. Food: After waiting 47 minutes, our food finally arrived, only for the waiter to admit our section was backed up too. My partner's sandwich came piled with an absurd amount of lettuce after specifically asking for items to be left off. My fish was cold, soggy, and soft instead of crispy. The tots were soaked in oil, and despite ordering garlic tots, I got plain ones instead. 3. Atmosphere: The atmosphere felt dismal, adding to the overall disappointing experience. Service was a bit slow and the dining area wasn't even packed. What attracted me here was the beer being served at 34 degrees, the look of the beer taps and then I saw some fried cheese curds (they did not have these, I'm guessing it's seasonal). Beer was smooth and ice cold. Cheese stick appetizer served hot (burn my mouth hot = PERFECTION) I ordered the jalapeño cream cheese burger. Bring on the heat!! Perfect amount of spicy with the oozy cream cheese, served on thick Texas toast. This was unlike anything I've had before. Messy but worth it. Get extra napkins for this one. A fun place to meet friends. Good ambiance for being social. Their martinis come in an ice glass! I really like the southwest chicken taquitos. Lived in Phoenix for 15 years and these remind me a lot of the flavors from there. Enjoy the patty melt as well- I ask for cheddar in addition to Swiss. I also like the chicken club wrap although I ask for Caesar instead of spread, and they've been happy to accommodate. Happy hour is also at night and there are a lot of fun choices for those who work later shifts. Let me start by saying that when they were first open I went there frequently as they had a few GF options that I loved, the main one being fish tacos (grilled fish on corn tortillas). A few months ago we went as a family. When the food came out my fish was battered (which is not GF). It was sent back. Everyone was finished eating prior to me getting my food. They took it off my bill and I gave grace figuring everyone sometimes has a bad night. Fast forward to yesterday. This restaurant was where the family wanted to go. We walked into the restaurant with a party of 8 and were immediately seated (at 5:15 on a Sat). That should've been our first warning. We sat down and I explained to the server what had happened the last time. She listened and carefully documented on the ticket what needed to be done differently because I am GF (fish needed to be grilled and corn tortillas). My daughter also ordered grilled fish on flour tortillas - not a GF thing but a preference. Everyone's food came except the fish tacos. We were told they had done them wrong (they had battered them). When they arrived, mine was on flour tortillas, which of course needed to be sent back. When my order finally came cooked correctly, the fish was still cold. The manager came and apologized saying his kitchen staff was new and that they needed to learn to read tickets. I told him both fish tacos would need to be given for free, which he did. The drink menu here looks pretty spectacular. I'm not an alcohol person, but some of the fruity drops looked and sounded worth a try. Instead, I opted for a grapefruit, a pineapple, and a huckleberry lemonade, all of which were fantastic. The food was a little disappointing. It's not terrible, but I was really excited for both the potato chip nachos and burgers, but they weren't as good as I'd imagined or hoped they'd be when ordering. Over the last year or so, my family had gotten takeout from this place multiple times. Each and every time something from the order has been wrong, often multiple things. While I will say that with the major issues, management handled it like a champ. No excuses, just apologies and action to make it right. For that, I will give them praise. That being said, my family has gotten tired of having to call in and get these issues resolved. Today was the straw that broke the camel's back, as the saying goes. They forgot the thousand island dressing that came with the side salad. Something insignificant, but when that was something one is looking forward to, its enough. The meat was balled up in the center of the bread and I had to take it apart and reposition it evenly. One item was completely left off of the order. The salad was 90% cores and only 10% leaf. Cold beer here! How cold? So cold? It's tucked in a strip mall on 99 but seems like a regular neighborhood pub with fried food galore. I think the draw of this place is their ice cold taps. It definitely makes a difference. I don't really drink but had a sip of my dining companion's beer and it was actually palatable to me! I tend not to eat at beer pubs much. Not that I have anything against them, it's just that Beaverton is an Asian food lover's Mecca. Hard to justify a plate of deep fried chicken fingers when there's a joint two miles away serving authentic Thai Boat Noodles. That said, I'd noticed a steady stream of traffic flowing into and out of Hops n Drops since they opened. And finally, feeling dehydrated after a long Peloton workout on a hot Summer day, I took the plunge. So glad I did. Hops n Drops is really quite fabulous. It's a clean, bright place with very fast and friendly service. They have a nice bar area brimming with TVs broadcasting an array of sports, and cozy a dining area with padded booths for families and more TVs so Dad can ignore his kids. But let's get to the important stuff. They have surprisingly good burgers. I am particularly smitten by the Jalapeño burger, a Cajun seasoned patty with chipotle mayonnaise, lightly grilled jalapeño peppers, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato served on a kaiser bun. Juicy, spicy, satisfying, and (don't judge me) neatly half-wrapped in a piece of parchment paper--a tiny detail that I appreciate for reasons that I can't quite pinpoint. I also quite like their Deluxe Burger, a nice patty topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion and HopsnDrops spread. Burgers come with a choice of HopsnDrops potato chips (in need of salt, TBH), fries, tots, fresh fruit, or salad. I always order the salad, which is very nicely composed and the perfect size. And now...finally...let's talk beer. They have a good selection of PNW microbrews on tap and in bottles. But here's the thing. They serve the COLDEST beer I've ever had. Seriously folks, these beers are so cold they defy the laws of physics. I mean, they must be something like 32.0000001 degrees Fahrenheit cold. And the weird thing is...they stay cold. I could order a beer at noon, hold it between my thighs until 3pm, and the damn beer is still cold! Arctic cold beer is reason enough to stop by Hops n Drop for lunch. I'm so glad this place has 4 stars. But I think they deserve more. Everytime I have been there, I've had excellent service. And I mean excellent. The servers are always excited about the food and drinks. They are friendly. The food is always fast as are the drinks. I was there tonight and sat in the bar. I didn't catch the name of the guy that helped me, but he was great. My salad was soooooo good! And I had to have some tots as well, because they make some bomb tots. I had the bbq chicken salad. And it was amazing. I will continue to go back to this spot. I don't even live in Sherwood. I live in Tigard. But I don't feel we have anything comparable, for me, in Tigard. As we trickled in, we were immediately greeted and beverages were provided in short order. Once we ordered food, I was surprised at the speed that it arrived. We have been coming to this restaurant for years and loved it. Today we tried breakfast. It appears the bartender was waiting on tables. I ordered eggs Benedict. We waited a long time before we got our order... even getting a mimosa took a lot longer then normal. The eggs were undercooked, runny white and there was no hollandaise sauce. After trying to wave someone down.... being ignored by one waitress... the bartender brought me a plastic cup with lukewarm watery sauce. I returned my meal, and reordered standard eggs and bacon. Bacon was like rubber! Overcooked and then probably microwaved. I ordered sourdough and got wheat toast. I was told by the kitchen manager they don't have sourdough. HopsnDrops is part of a chain based out of Colorado, and is located in a strip mall off of 99W in Sherwood. Like others have mentioned, the selection of beer here is excellent, though I decided to stick to two of their house beers (pale ale, and lager.) They pride themselves on ice cold beer, poured at around 31 or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Both beers were pretty good, and at happy hour were $6 each. Speaking of happy hour, apparently they have a night-time happy hour from nine to close, which surprised me when I came in at around ten. I also ordered food- an order of fish tacos for ~$8.00. It was pollack fillets served in a flour tortilla with shredded cabbage and sauce- it was actually pretty good, and the fillets were crispy and hot. Service was expedient, and they have a way where you can scan a QR code on the receipt to pay digitally! Kind of a nifty little way to pay. I am usually not a huge fan of these chain places that have been popping up over the past few years, but HopsnDrops is definitely one of the better quality ones.
