By far this is my favorite bar in flagstaff. I come to this place about 4-5 times a week as my after work de stressor and also as a place to find flagstaff locals and meet interesting tourists and new friends. I know that this bar went above and beyond for this Christmas Day, they tended to the locals with Derek behind the bar as well as the boss man Jay. If you live in flagstaff you're aware of the limited options of places to get food, drinks, or even gas here on a holiday. The Bossman Jay and his wife Natalie treat everyone like they are apart of their own family. Whether you live here or just traveling through. You're at home. They break their back to make sure that anyone drinking in this great watering hole feels as if they are either in a rustic country town, in a ski chalet, or just passing through smiling off their loving vibe. Fortunately, the stage is a setup for groovy, local music, and the boards are used to list the awesome, extensive craft beer selection. When school's out, Hops on Birch has all the makings of what I love in a dive bar. My mind was blown by how low the prices were for some of these brews. It was blown even more by all the stuff I'd never heard of. Once again, the Flagstaff beer scene is proving itself the be the most eclectic, the most dynamic, simply THE BEST in Arizona. Ahh yes, gotta love another bar to go to in Flagstaff. You will find a large beer selection, friendly staff, and relaxed customers. I'm pretty simple when it comes to beer so it was nice that they had a menu with lots of information. It had the price, alcohol content, and a breakdown of the taste. If you are like me, you may want to sample some before getting a whole glass. This was something the bartenders offered before I had to ask. Maybe it's because I was indecisive...hmm not sure, but it was awesome! It was pretty busy when I was there, but the noise level isn't bad at all. Really like the concept of this place as a neighborhood beer hang out. They had a great selection on tap. Really excited to be able to finish off my night with a local kombucha on tap. This place has a wonderful atmosphere or is built after the pubs in England and has that local vibe. It was built in 2912 but it still has an older feel. The bartenders are casually dressed which could be good or bad. I wish they at least wore brewery shirts or hops shirts but they wear whatever they please. The beer selections is vast with 28 beers on tap. You can always find something you like. My only complaint is I wish they had a bit more local brews. They only have the worst historic beer (cucumber beer) on tap. No mother road or wonderlust or anything like that. I love that they support local artists though. There is open mic nights and local artists paintings on the walls. They are also (in true flagstaff style) dog friendly which is wonderful. The beer selection is great- I like the constantly rotating taps. I also love that they are dog friendly. However, I'm not a fan of the atmosphere. It's often crazy crowded (which says something about their selection), and when they have live music the noise is simply unbearable. I try to go early in the week when it's not as busy so I, and my dog, can enjoy the beer without the throngs of people. I'm also not a fan of their wifi situation. This place needs to find a new bartender, the absolute worst service I've ever had in my life. She was too busy refilling her water and checking her phone to actually serve us. I am looking for a cool spot where I can actually hear my buddies and enjoy a tasty beer. This is the spot! Speaking of beer they have a fantastic selection, if not the greatest selection in town. It was a cool Tuesday summer evening when I and two dear friends strolled the streets of Flagstaff vainly looking for a quiet place to have a drink or two when we stumbled upon Hops on Birch and immediately felt drawn to its cozy interior and decided to enter this fine establishment which, for a change, wasn't populated by dogs of various creeds and persuasions. The night called for a balanced glass of red and we proceeded to order two of which, an Italian blend, in fact, the friendly young man at the bar unfortunately was unable to tell us the composition of. The bottle was labeled 7/8, which I naively took to be an indication of the price, not the friendliest of prices but, heck, you only live once, I said to myself. With what I hoped to be an elegant motion of my right hand I produced my credit card only to learn that a glass cost a whopping $13, plus tax and tips, totaling around $16, more than I had ever paid for a glass of wine, either side of the Atlantic and the Pacific. When I learned that the numbers on the bottle meant that the wine had been opened and not properly sealed for four entire days, my indignation was perfect. I paid with considerable reluctance , looking forward to the most epic experience I have ever afforded my palate - only to be disappointed. Clearly, the wine wasn't the wisest choice and clearly, leaving it exposed to oxygen for four didn't help. When my wheelchair-powered friend faces the challenge of having to let water he happily wheeled off to the restroom clearly marked as accessible but returned less than a minute later because he was unable to do his business. Apparently the sign was put up to pretend they were compliant with the respective laws when all it would take to make it accessible for wheelchairs is double-hinging the door for $35 or so. For the above reasons I would definitely never treat myself or a disabled friend of mine to a glass of wine or an excursion, however brief, to the restroom of this particular establishment. read more

Came here because I knew it was affiliated with Sleepy Whale and Wandering Tortoise, and those places never disappoint. Selection was on par with those places, but the service was quite the opposite. The beer tender insisted on making fun of our beer choices and kicked it up a notch as we were leaving to have her friend that's a patron join in the fun to have some laughs at our expense. Very cool bar in Downtown Flag. I was in for a Snowbowl trip and wanted to grab a drink Saturday night so I checked out Hops On Birch. Came in around 8:00pm to find a nice little dog friendly place with a great beer variety. Got to pet a few pooches and sample a couple beers while making my decision. Once I got my glass I sat down with some friends and started to chat. Everyone was friendly and they even had love music. Great place and I'm happy to have found it. Not my favorite stop in Flagstaff. This is not a brewery it's a tap house with a decent selection of beers. Twice I have stopped in and the service is for sure sub par. They seem uninterested in their job or better yet on working at all. There is a decent amount of seating and have live music (I don't know when). What a great little spot I stumbled upon on New Years day when the brewery I wanted to go to was closed for the holiday. The staff, and by staff I mean the bartender (Owner?) and his dog who were the only ones in their were both very friendly and welcoming. The bar has a bunch of taps of mostly craft beer that change on a regular basis and presenting an impressive selection with many in state brews on the list. Add in a bunch of board game to play while you sit back and relax with friends and this is a winning spot. Also seems like they have live music and trivia games at different times in the week. Don't hesitate to stop in and if you have any questions on beers ask away as the staff seems to know their stuff, although the dog may not answer clearly so ask the man behind the bar if the dog approach doesn't quite work out. read more

Pint night used to be the entire appeal of Hops on Birch however the pricing and definition of a "pint" totally changed and is basically worth overlooking at this point.
