Go here! We're on a road trip from CO. So it's important to be able to take our two GSP's (pups) and try local brews. Hops on Birch accommodated both. Plus, a bunch of the locals were drinking beers from our local CO faves.... Ska and Odd 13. Bueno. Go here! read more

Hops On Birch - Beer Bar Near Me - Flagstaff, Arizona

This is one of my first recommendations when people from out of town ask for good beer. The management has done a great job of adding some of the best breweries from Phoenix to their tap list. Besides AZ beer they have amazing stuff from out of state too. The combo of world class beer and a dog friendly bar and patio makes Hops one of my favorite hang outs in Flagstaff. read more

Been here a few times while in Flag and in need of a pint of excellent craft beer. They have a fairly good selection (of course more AZ and CO-heavy than anything else) and the place always has a friendly neighborhood feel to it. Last time my wife and I went, we spontaneously joined a Santa Pub Crawl and had a blast joining everyone in the holiday shenanigans! Two thumbs up! PS check out their beer list on Taphunter to see what's on tap before you visit! read more

Between the seating, the unassuming open space, and the hallway with the water fountain in the back, I feel like I'm drinking in a classroom. An art classroom, full of chalkboards and small, fragile furnishings. There's a tiny stage, reminiscent of something one might find in a cafeteria. Fortunately, the stage is a setup for groovy, local music, and the boards are used to list the awesome, extensive craft beer selection. When school's out, Hops on Birch has all the makings of what I love in a dive bar. My mind was blown by how low the prices were for some of these brews. It was blown even more by all the stuff I'd never heard of. Once again, the Flagstaff beer scene is proving itself the be the most eclectic, the most dynamic, simply THE BEST in Arizona. Being one of the best non-club options to socialize and mingle that night was a bonus as well. They really know what they're doing, and I can't wait to return! read more

Ahh yes, gotta love another bar to go to in Flagstaff. You will find a large beer selection, friendly staff, and relaxed customers. I'm pretty simple when it comes to beer so it was nice that they had a menu with lots of information. It had the price, alcohol content, and a breakdown of the taste. If you are like me, you may want to sample some before getting a whole glass. This was something the bartenders offered before I had to ask. Maybe it's because I was indecisive...hmm not sure, but it was awesome! It was pretty busy when I was there, but the noise level isn't bad at all. I enjoyed sitting by the bar sampling beers and chatting up other customers. All in all, I will definitely be back for some more beer. read more

By far this is my favorite bar in flagstaff. I come to this place about 4-5 times a week as my after work de stressor and also as a place to find flagstaff locals and meet interesting tourists and new friends. I know that this bar went above and beyond for this Christmas Day, they tended to the locals with Derek behind the bar as well as the boss man Jay. If you live in flagstaff you're aware of the limited options of places to get food, drinks, or even gas here on a holiday. The Bossman Jay and his wife Natalie treat everyone like they are apart of their own family. Whether you live here or just traveling through. You're at home. They break their back to make sure that anyone drinking in this great watering hole feels as if they are either in a rustic country town, in a ski chalet, or just passing through smiling off their loving vibe. Whatever feeling you need they give it. 5 star! With the rotating tap selection everyone should be able to find a drink of their liking. read more

Well, add another bar to my list of places Stephanie H. and I will visit during our Flagstaff Bar Crawls. Hops on Birch has a huge selection of beers on tap, the staff is very friendly, and the packed bar has a great energy. Not sure what to get? Their extensive menu will break down the prices, type of beer and alcoholic content (see my photo). Still not sure? They'll give you some samples before you buy a pint. This bar has only been open since April 2012 and they already got it right. They are attached to Vino Loco Wine Bar and Nando's Grill (who offer a free chips & salsa with a yelp check-in!), so there is something for everyone right in the area. read more

This place has a wonderful atmosphere or is built after the pubs in England and has that local vibe. It was built in 2912 but it still has an older feel. The bartenders are casually dressed which could be good or bad. I wish they at least wore brewery shirts or hops shirts but they wear whatever they please. The beer selections is vast with 28 beers on tap. You can always find something you like. My only complaint is I wish they had a bit more local brews. They only have the worst historic beer (cucumber beer) on tap. No mother road or wonderlust or anything like that. I love that they support local artists though. There is open mic nights and local artists paintings on the walls. They are also (in true flagstaff style) dog friendly which is wonderful. They have a great little outside patio area which is wonderful on nice days. :-). read more

You can get beer anywhere... the local grocer has as good a beer selection as most bars. So how do you beat the grocery store? First, you need a unique and rotating selection where you can sample and find your new favorite beer. Hops on Birch has a huge selection and they rotate them to keep you on your toes. Second, your bar needs to have some style. Hops on Birch has comfy chairs, lots of live music, and they even let you bring your dog. Hops on Birch stands out in a very crowded Flagstaff Downtown scene. They provide a great selection of beer with a comfy and cool place to share it in. read more

Really like the concept of this place as a neighborhood beer hang out. They had a great selection on tap. Really excited to be able to finish off my night with a local kombucha on tap. This place was fairly busy late at night and the staff did a great job managing it and making sure everyone was taken care of. Very affordable. Only thing I would change is to add some snack or food option. I noticed some patrons had pretzel sticks but I left hungry. The music that was playing was awesome. read more

The beer selection is great- I like the constantly rotating taps. I also love that they are dog friendly. However, I'm not a fan of the atmosphere. It's often crazy crowded (which says something about their selection), and when they have live music the noise is simply unbearable. I try to go early in the week when it's not as busy so I, and my dog, can enjoy the beer without the throngs of people. I'm also not a fan of their wifi situation. I have to use the next door neighbor business. I wish Hops had their own. read more

The pros: the beer selection is really good. The atmosphere inside and out is good. The cons: the woman pouring the beer was unpersonable - we didn't feel very welcome there. The beer is waaaay overpriced - four beers for $35.00 - YIKES! We won't be returning. There are too many good, more reasonably priced, options in Flagstaff. read more

This place needs to find a new bartender, the absolute worst service I've ever had in my life. She was too busy refilling her water and checking her phone to actually serve us. One of my local hangouts when I was in college. This place was one of the first, if not the first craft beer bar in Flagstaff and after not visiting in over four years and then returning, this place did not disappoint. This place was recommended by a Flagstaff resident. The bar was full and cozy. The bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. They also let me sample a few beers. Hops on Birch is a quaint little pub with super chill vibes. I used to hold all of my after work "meetings" here. Kinda small but superb beer selection. Where else can you find awesome jams playing 5 nights a week! I am getting to that age where I no longer go downtown to tear it up all night. I am looking for a cool spot where I can actually hear my buddies and enjoy a tasty beer. This is the spot! Speaking of beer they have a fantastic selection, if not the greatest selection in town. Some of my fondest memories are getting a cold one on a crisp fall day and people watching with my wife while listening to jams. Theses are the tings that I will absolutely remember forever. And there are the things that make Flagstaff special. Head downtown and see for yourself what all the fuss is about. read more

The hostess she was not friendly tried to order a beer and was holding my ID to give it to her. She ignored me if I wasn't there nor bother greeting me and my family. It was a cool Tuesday summer evening when I and two dear friends strolled the streets of Flagstaff vainly looking for a quiet place to have a drink or two when we stumbled upon Hops on Birch and immediately felt drawn to its cozy interior and decided to enter this fine establishment which, for a change, wasn't populated by dogs of various creeds and persuasions. The night called for a balanced glass of red and we proceeded to order two of which, an Italian blend, in fact, the friendly young man at the bar unfortunately was unable to tell us the composition of. The bottle was labeled 7/8, which I naively took to be an indication of the price, not the friendliest of prices but, heck, you only live once, I said to myself. With what I hoped to be an elegant motion of my right hand I produced my credit card only to learn that a glass cost a whopping $13, plus tax and tips, totaling around $16, more than I had ever paid for a glass of wine, either side of the Atlantic and the Pacific. When I learned that the numbers on the bottle meant that the wine had been opened and not properly sealed for four entire days, my indignation was perfect. I paid with considerable reluctance , looking forward to the most epic experience I have ever afforded my palate - only to be disappointed. Clearly, the wine wasn't the wisest choice and clearly, leaving it exposed to oxygen for four didn't help. When my wheelchair-powered friend faces the challenge of having to let water he happily wheeled off to the restroom clearly marked as accessible but returned less than a minute later because he was unable to do his business. Apparently the sign was put up to pretend they were compliant with the respective laws when all it would take to make it accessible for wheelchairs is double-hinging the door for $35 or so. For the above reasons I would definitely never treat myself or a disabled friend of mine to a glass of wine or an excursion, however brief, to the restroom of this particular establishment. read more

Came here because I knew it was affiliated with Sleepy Whale and Wandering Tortoise, and those places never disappoint. Selection was on par with those places, but the service was quite the opposite. The beer tender insisted on making fun of our beer choices and kicked it up a notch as we were leaving to have her friend that's a patron join in the fun to have some laughs at our expense. Can't think of a better way to sour someone's experience and be any less welcoming. read more

Hops on Birch was our first stop when we visited Flagstaff on our most recent trip. They have a great selection of beers (approx 30), at reasonable prices. I really like that they offer 8oz. pours (along with 16oz.). That gives you an opportunity to try out a bunch of different beers at one time. The bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable. We didn't spend a long time here, but it seemed like a really friendly neighborhood environment. (You can even bring your dog in.) 2016 Review #70 read more

Great beer. Shitty service. Made a joke about our bachelorette party and was met with "You shouldn't say that at bars, people won't serve you." So dog friendly. It's awesome. Live music. Good beer. Awesome spot. If you have a dog and you love beer, come visit.

This place is hit or miss, in my experience. It's usually very crowded, but you can find a table or gap where you feel comfortable. The drink selection is great and the staff is friendly. Any time I've been here with live music, though, it's way too loud. read more

What a great little spot I stumbled upon on New Years day when the brewery I wanted to go to was closed for the holiday. The staff, and by staff I mean the bartender (Owner?) and his dog who were the only ones in their were both very friendly and welcoming. The bar has a bunch of taps of mostly craft beer that change on a regular basis and presenting an impressive selection with many in state brews on the list. Add in a bunch of board game to play while you sit back and relax with friends and this is a winning spot. Also seems like they have live music and trivia games at different times in the week. Don't hesitate to stop in and if you have any questions on beers ask away as the staff seems to know their stuff, although the dog may not answer clearly so ask the man behind the bar if the dog approach doesn't quite work out. read more

We practically waited outside the doors for this place to open on a Sunday. Okay, so we definitely did. The bartender was fucking amazing. I would go to this place every day if I lived here. The ambiance is so comfortable. Plenty of beer choices on tap. Fresh flowers and big front windows. I like this place a lot. read more

When reviews state that this place is dog friendly, you should know they mean DOG FRIENDLY. I've been there times when our four legged patrons have... how you say... unleashed a coiler? and no-one bats an eyelid. It's just promptly cleaned up. no drama. They also do a good job tolerating a curmudgeonly barfly like myself, who prefers to do his drinking before the crowds arrive in the evening. One of only three places in town where the barkeeps bother to call me by name - i'm a sucker for that - but i've seen people from all walks of life here - it 's a great example of the 'third room' mentioned here http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Sqr9oy0HU8A great beer selection, reasonable pricing, knowledgeable staff. It's as good as it gets in Flagstaff. read more

Weird. Old looking college students, some playing boardgames. 1 bartender on a Saturday night. He was trying really hard to look cool. Too hard. Good assortment of beers, local stuff and they know their beer. The atmosphere was too light, bright, etc. I could never imagine being a regular here. The layout is crummy, you can't even people watch. No standing area, not enough seating. Blah. read more

I don't always write reviews on Yelp but when I do I write them for a place that deserves it. Hops on Birch is hands down the coolest bar in Flagstaff. They rotate out the 28 beers on tap. Don't come expecting crap beer (coors light) because they won't have it... all A+ on tap! I would highly recommend if you are looking for a good atmosphere and great staff check it out! Hops On Birch is a great, low-key bar. They have a ton of beer on tap (apparently 28) and at great prices. I just moved from San Francisco to Flagstaff, and let me tell you, these beers would be like 4 times the price there. So drink up! I love that they let dogs in- makes it so much easier for all my dog owning friends. A really nice place, the owners are super nice, great selection, and location can't be beat. Also, they have board games. It seems everywhere in Flag does, but it's got such a great ambiance for it. Definitely worth a stop! read more
