This place is amazing and I mean the only real old school place I've seen. The ambiance says relaxed and the building is beautiful. The staff is incredibly attentive and truly appreciated their knowledge of the menu and the history of the building (Twyla and Eddy). I enjoyed the chicken Caesar which had a southwest kick to it and my husband had the club which the staff recommended. Love this place! Literally my favorite bar in flagstaff but I will say I only go on karaoke nights which are Wednesday and Thursday. Ricky is a great as a host and the service has usually been good when I've been there. Overall just a really friendly and welcoming environment. Most times at least haha. read more

So I just want to say this place is underrated, we had the best time. Alexis was absolutely beyond perfect. She was so welcoming like we were family. We have 4 teenagers she accommodated us for dinner after the haunted tour. She even went out of her way to write down places she loved because she know we were going to Sedona the next day. So, the bartender (short, dark hair) accidentally sprays beer all over half the bar, doe apologize to anyone at the bar, nor does he acknowledge that he did so, even when that side of the bar all yells at once. And then we get kicked out. How does that happen? They treat the patrons awful! Get eid of that barber and change your mind set about your paying customers. also, the drinks aren't made well and they are too overpriced for a hole in the wall. I went here apart of the St Pattys bar crawl. This was our last stop on the bar crawl so alot of people were very rowdy and heavily intoxicated. I just wanted to show appreciation to the bouncer at the front who helped take care of the people when they were leaving. I think he had dirty blonde hair, beard, with a mustache and very tall as well. He was very respectful and helped multiple people who couldn't even walk. I saw him catch a Hispanic women's head just before it hit the ground as she was falling over. Overall great atmosphere and a fun day! Only problem would be the bathrooms. The Gopher Hole has been a refreshing experience the say the least. I have been around the flagstaff area for awhile and consider myself to be a bit of a night owl. I have been to your classic Collin's and Monte Vista bars but nothing can quite replicate the feel of The Gopher Hole. I am a huge karaoke fan and love the way the regulars show out for it at this joint! I get along well with the staff there especially the intimidating security officers . I recently witnessed one of the bouncers turn away an unpleasant woman who tried getting in with an expired ID, this made me feel safe knowing that they are diligent with their job. Walked to the bouncer he let my friend who had a vertical license/ ID in, and I haven't had mine changed yet I still have a vertical, and the man refused to let me in. I find it unfair. We love this place! It was a live band playing is there a lousy don't expect it to be quiet and to have a conversation with your partner or friends. However everyone is happy, the drinks were fabulous, my first one was made by a woman and my second one was made by Corey, both equally good. We sat at the bar was watching Corrie making drinks... Long Island iced tea seem to be a very popular drink here and they are only eight dollars. They had a special drink that had buzz flowers grown by Sam. Such a cool atmosphere! Great drinks, fantastic beer selection, cool vibe. once we finally got our food, it was fantastic. The consistent comment here is about the nearly nonexistent service, and unfortunately we experienced the same. It took us 15 minutes to place an order and the staff was visibly pissed off to take our order. It wasn't busy and they were just stocking and cleaning! A polite, young man guarding a flight of nondescript stairs below the ground. There was no cover. I didn't know what this place was initially, but I was all in! I have no regrets. The Gopher Hole is whatever you need. It's got a nice, dark dance floor with a loud--but not too loud!--music that looks so inviting I almost jumped in. The bar itself is awesome. Average liquor selection, but expansive tap selection. I kept ordering the Historic Coffee Porter while I people watched and chatted with my friends. Nothing but good vibes, as it seems great for either a date or a group outing. Of course, there was a little game room for billiards and whatnot. You might need it to take a break, as it's less crowded than the rest of the place. It's not that this place does anything out-of-this-world. It's just dark, lowkey, and FUN. A hidden gem in downtown Flagstaff with a phenomenal ambiance and even better staff. Managers Chris and Patrick have created a welcoming environment that pleases all ages. Bouncer and bartender Tony; along with the other bartenders: Jules, Gwen, Caitlin, and Maddy simply represent one of the best staffs in Flagstaff. This establishment could be such a prize of the community if it weren't for its bar management. First, let me state, I love the Weatherford. There is amazing food and amazing bartending staff there. I will however hold a strong line of judgement toward the Gopher Hole management. This guy, who's name I never got, kicked our group of 15 out because we had a golf club in our possession. He approached us to ask that the golf club be taken off the property because it was a weapon, though no one was using it in a hostile manner, and upon our request that the golf club be placed behind the bar instead of where other can steal it, took offense and decided that any questions be treated as hostility. He made an embarrassment of our group and decided that we ALL weren't appropriate to stay because we had asked that our possessions not be stolen. I'm unsure if he was having a bad day and decided to take it out on the customers, or if he was a Lilliputian man with a Napoleon complex seeking revenge on anyone larger than he. I hope the Gopher Hole recognizes this and remedies such an inhospitable part of their organization. Until then, I suggest people avoid this establishment if they are looking to be respected as human beings and treated as such. read more

My partner and I had visited the Gopher Hole Pub with family and friends. While we did not have a problem with any staff inside, we did have a major issue with the bouncer who was outside at the top of the steps. He was a young, blonde male but I did not catch his name. Long story short- he made several homophobic remarks towards my partner and I, to the point where both he and I were yelling, and he ended up pushing my partner and I. This led to a bit of a scuffle, and the man continued to make homophobic remarks. I could have decided to call the police for this behavior, but decided not to, as we were just visiting for the weekend and I did not want to have any further issues. I want to make sure that your establishment is aware of the inappropriate, aggressive and homophobic behaviors that took place with that bouncer. read more

So, I don't know what I like about this bar more, the fact that it is super rich in history, the fact that it might be haunted or the great service we always receive. The Gopher Hole is located in the basement of the Weatherford Hotel. The bar there is the original bar!! Apparently, there are several ghost stories that accompany the location and some pretty good ones at that. We've always had an affinity for drinks with a story and this is the place to go for just that. We get quick and friendly service every time we go too. Bad-Ass, Basement bar! Freaking awesome!! Don't know what people are complaining about or what they expect. Your in Flagstaff, your downtown, it's a college party part of town, it's a bar... In a basement... Pretty freaking cool if you ask me! We originally walked in to go to the bar upstairs. As I walked in I felt the floor under me vibrating and loud music coming up from the floor. I ask the guy "What is that?!" He says "Gopher Hole... The Bar in the Basement." Me, with all kinds of excitement: "No freaking way?! Can we go?!" Door man: "Yea..." I about killed myself running down the stairs. It was pretty slow at first because we were out pretty early. But it filled right up about at 10:30pm. The drinks we poured perfectly, when it got busy I didn't wait too long, the music was good, they played a little bit of everything for everyone that will make you dance. The game room was filled with goodies! Darts, shooting games, and pool. So of your looking for a fun night out, dancing, drinking, and playing some games. This place is perfect. Terrible, terrible service. We were staying there with family who are huge Oregon fans so we asked weeks before if they would be showing the game and they said they would. Then, when we asked the bartender if he would turn on the game (we were 1 of 2 parties in the bar at the time) he acted very irritated and even asked if it would be a problem if he couldn't find the channel. We let him know yes it would because we were staying at the hotel specifically to watch the game there. Our waitress did not come to our table without us asking for her to more than one time. She was getting off so we closed out with her but needed a few more food orders so we went to the bar to order. The bartender too, treated us as if we did not exist and when my dad asked her why there wasn't another waitress on the floor she was very snide in answering him. I worked in the service industry for 5 years and am usually very understanding of situations that may be out of the staff's control, but this group was outright rude and I WON'T make the mistake of taking my family or spending my money there ever again. Stumbled upon this little hotel that had three places to eat. Ended up at the Gopher Hole. Menu was good, atmosphere was nice and quiet. Really enjoyed the decor of the place. Our server and manager there were friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of the place. Food was super yum. Nachos were enormous, had the Navajo Taco (black olives?) and he had the enchiladas. All were great (ate way to much!). After waiting 20 min at our table and not getting a server I asked the bartender about the table situation and he said my best get would be to come to the bar. Boy was he right. There clearly was servers because every now and then we would see them bring food out but we were there for at least a couple of hours playing trivia and no one ever even came to our table.
